NFT: 30 years ago today - the Challenger explosion

Greg from LI : 1/28/2016 11:39 am
I remember exactly where I was - sitting in the multipurpose room with the rest of my elementary school. We were all watching together because the teachers had made a big deal about Christa McAuliffe going into space. I will always remember how all the kids in the room went from cheering to a big collective gasp, then a few moments of silence before the teachers jumped up to herd us back to our classrooms without answering questions.

The crew not only famously included Christa McAuliffe, but Dr. Ronald McNair, the second black astronaut to reach space, Dr. Judith Resnik, the second American woman in space, and Ellison Onizuka, the first Asian-American astronaut.

What else have you got down cold - we know 9/11 was an inside job - can you clear up the Holocaust for me, been hearing it may not have gone down the way the Jewish-controlled media would have us believe..

The paper in Columbia had a great front page pic of it.
Most people up the eastern seaboard had a view of the explosion cloud and the two contrails from the SRBs

Anyway I vividly remember that day. I was in the states at SAFB
That's Shaw Airforce Bace in SC. A TAC base. Having lunch at the O club with a friend also in the field doing checks. On the tv above the bar we watched as Challeger was launching. I remember him telling me I hope all the I were dotted and the T crossed. Something we said a lot back then.
When it happened the club went silent after the initial shock sounds.
Everyone in there knew what just happened. It wasn't long before we headed outside to see the contrails of the explosion. Not long after the pagers went off and the base locked down.

So which is it, you knew what happened right after watching it on live TV or you found out things later that caused you to rethink your position?

When the second plane hit the south tower, you knew what happened.
Same thing with us it was not a secret in the community that the shuttle launches and what the country was doing was pissing off quite a few countries. Reagan era politics is known in other countries as the crazy cowboy era. Reagan Administration frightened the globe.
Serious lack of morals tainted those working for it.
I could bring up the Contras but that's it's own sick story.

then why would you have to rethink your position later?

Most information is under the national security blanket where you only get to see or use it on a need to know basis. This is if you work for them
Of course there is the freedom act but some things are buried deep with time restrictions. Even then when declassified they are edited for sensitivity.
Sensitive information has been treated like this since Ike was in office.
It's one of the things Kennedy wanted changed when he tried to destroy the CIA\NSA. Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you.
Most of Reagans advisors cut their teeth under Nixon. You don't want to know about the Bush and Clinton administrations. It's better to not know.

Were the pagers going off to "80085"? That's always fun.

So fun with math; via I95 Sumter, SC to 440 miles from Cape Canaveral. Shuttle launches were essentially due east southeast from KSC. As the crow flies, maybe 400 miles distance at best. Breakup started at around FL450 and peaked at around FL650. So best case scenario assuming flat land, you claim to have observed a phenomenon that peaked at 1.76 degrees above the horizon.

So unless you are Superman-- which is a story that makes a lot more sense than the nonsense you are spewing on this thread -- you are full of shit.

Also, KAL 007 occurred in August 1983. It involved Russia shooting down a Korean airliner. So 51-L, 2.5 years later, was in response to that?? How does that even logically make sense?

Oh, right. It doesn't. Thickones, tanked?

Please correct me, professor. How far above the horizon is an object that is 400 miles away and 12 miles above the surface? It's roughly equivalent to viewing the Concorde flying at cruise over Virginia Beach from your vantage point in Sumter, SC.

KAL007 was accused by the Russians of being a spy plane. There is no evidence that this was the case. The Russians also claimed that the space shuttle system was a complex space-based bomber intended to target Moscow. Russians are funny.

OK, you've now completely demonstrated how full of shit you are. I was doing my masters at NYU Poly in telecommunications engineering when they were one of the universities working on the HAARP program.

If you think HAARP can do anything useful, let alone warp metal or control the weather, you need to be locked up for your own safety, pronto. That ended up being a huge boondoggle that wasn't even useful for the intended purpose, finding ways to improve the reliability of shortwave communications.

Number one. The Contrails were huge
As was the explosion cloud. Not the size of the concord.

KAL had been accused of spying long before that fateful flight.
There had been whispers of it at low altitude taking photos
Much like the RF4 Air Force jets did. As I told you I worked with
96Ds all the time, they would look over the photos and spread the intelligence to other units. Was KAL spying? Yes many times.

I mentioned Harrp as real because it was.
Like the rail gun like the stealth bomber.
Strategic Defense Initiative,
Reading comprehension is a lost cause.
Like the fact Challeger was taking things out of space. The Robotic Arm saved the space program. The original use of the shuttles were to take astronauts to the space station where other spacecraft was to be developed for longer journeys. The original Space race was really to make the Soviets spend money on things other than weapons. It eventually bankrupt them.
Also RF4 is an old twin engine jet that goes all the way back to Vietnam
R is recon F for Fighter . A 96 Delta is an Army MOS Military Occupation Specialty for Imagine Interpretation, they look at photos to determine intelligence. Weapons, vehicles or aircraft soldiers, logistics.
Acronyms is how the military communicated. Google it

jcn56 : 1/30/2016 6:07 pm : link
websites believe that HAARP was intended to control weather.

Anyone who knows anything about HAARP, or anything about weather, or electromagnetics - shit, or anything about just about anything - knows that (a) HAARP was never intended for that and (b) it was an abject failure.

Geomagnetic reversal, weather control, damaging metal with EMPs - all things you'll only find on looney websites that list DoD documents that have been redacted past the point of usefulness, with bits of idiot dust sprinkled in to the gaps to try to justify their crazy beliefs. Actual science doesn't doesn't support any of it. And here's a hint - if the most unstable countries on the planet can figure out how to build a nuclear weapon, these secrets wouldn't be kept in the bag either.

So you listed SDI, one thing seated in reality? Congrats - that puts you in the population limited to the several billion people who knew about the Star Wars program. What were you, #2 at the Pentagon?

The Space Race wasn't intended to bankrupt the Soviets - there were winning the fucking thing at the start. *SDI* was intended to bankrupt them, to take mutually assured destruction off the table. Obviously, SDI was never going to be a technical success - but the threat that we could both race to get there, and the Soviets run out of money first, is what did them in.

These are things anyone who finished 6th grade in this country in the past 20 years should know, so let me know when we get to the point where you're trying to prove some value.

before when I got into West Palm Beach Airport. Had put my coat in my luggage not expecting to need it and not knowing back then the baggage pickup was at that time outside. Froze.

Was in a meeting at a hotel the next morning so did not see it but a couple of my coworkers were in the business office and saw it I believe over a hundred miles up the coast.

By the way, I agree conspiracy theorists generally suck.

What's the answer, professor? Mine is 1.76 degrees above the horizon. I'm actually being a little generous and saying that you were 400 miles away and the Challenger reached a maximum height of 12 miles. arctan(12/400) * 360degrees/2pi radians = 1.7 degrees.

Please correct my math so I can someday be half as smart as you.

Your wrong the entire reason for the space race was two fold.
First the Soviets want to militarized space. They saw it as a way to control the world with there nukes. Why do you think they spent so much money on it?
Our side of the coin was to not let them do it. They were putting nuclear weapons on their satellites. Why do you think we spent so much on the Shuttle program? Because it could block them from checkmate. They took the gamble to have the ultimate weapon of destruction and we took it down before they could use it. But from the beginning it was about making the USSR spend funds they couldn't afford too. Most of Russia politics and leaders went back to Stalin hardliners and WW2

The real culprit behind the space race is WW2 Germany. It was their scientists that were whisked away to Russia and the U.S.
The whole Cold War was because after Germany was defeated the U.S. Didn't have the fortitude to defeat Russia and force a revolution. U.S. Had a great foot hold in Europe and Russia was very weak. Roosevelt knew it but died before he could get it done. Creating 50 year problem. We also had the most powerful weapon ever created.

Little under 10.7 miles. Look it up then recalculate.

OK that's 1.5 degrees instead of 1.7 degrees.

Again, you went from quoting super-secret black ops type military weaponry that you claimed to have knowledge of, to backing off into statements that could have been pulled from a 6th grade social studies textbook.

The reason for the space race was military superiority? You don't say! I thought the US and Russia were both just trying to get better pictures of Mount Everest.

Again - you talked a LOT of shit, and when it's all said and done, you look even more stupid than when you started off. I wouldn't mind as much, if not for the fact that the disaster cost 7 people their lives, and every stupid word you pull out of your ass is essentially spitting on their grave.
I mourn for all of them they died and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Especially christa and judy.. But the others knew what they were up against. One with Intelligence ties the other a hot shot pilot,
Two specialists in disarming Soviet systems.
And one who had the skills to get it in the shuttle.
They died on a mission for this country christa was along for the ride.
She never swore an oath.

Thank you for your informative, factual posts. I have learned a lot. I hope someday you can write a book and share your knowledge and experiences.

and I understand wanting to militarize space but with nukes? The missiles already existed to hit any place on the planet with a nuke. What would be the advantage for the US and USSR to have nukes in space vs on subs and ships? Would that advantage be worth taking out a space shuttle that could result in WW III?

I'm also curious how the government could have kept the secret for that many years. Think of the number of people who would have knowledge of it. A conspiracy theory means believing not one of those people from either side would ever talk. Sorry but that's not happening.
What other conspiracy theories are we going to have to deal with?
