Beckham at Safety?

Matt M. : 2/1/2016 1:59 pm
I didn't see any thread dedicated to this and don't see the Pro Bowl thread from yesterday. I also didn't watch the game. But, I did see an update on the home page and a post yesterday that mentioned Beckham played S on defense a little bit. what were the circumstances? Was it done in the name of fun or were safeties on their squad hurt?

Does this not bother anyone? I find it odd this isn't getting more conversation and if I'm McAdoo and the front office, I'm pissed not only at him, but the coach.Thankfully, he came out unscathed. But, imaging if he hurt himself in any capacity playing D. What kind of shitstorm would this create?
I'd rather not see it,
GiantFilthy : 2/1/2016 2:04 pm : link
but the refs were blowing plays dead just from players being touched.
Many were bothered by it
LakeGeorgeGiant : 2/1/2016 2:04 pm : link
but honestly nobody was really hitting out there. The game was a joke.

Given the circumstances I don't think Beckham playing safety is anything to get ruffled about.
Pissed me off

guys complain about not wanting to get hurt, but you got Sherman taking reverses, Bennett taking the snap, multiple offensive players playing offense.

Goodell needs to cancel this shit show.
Come on now

it was a pillow fight.
Light hitting or not
Matt M. : 2/1/2016 2:09 pm : link
He's taking extra snaps in a game at a position he doesn't normally play. Nothing happened, but there are many ways he could have been hurt, including non-contact injuries. With so much focus on injuries with this team, this was poor judgement.
I would have enjoyed seeing Beckham kick a field goal or extra point.

Given his skills in soccer, that sounds great on paper. But, it is also an easy way to pull a hammy or groin muscle.
I care about as much

as the first batch of players that were picked to participate.
Since The Game Was Such A Joke

How about Beckham throwing a pass to himself (rules, what rules?) and then kicking his own extra point.

I fully understand the injury risk (especially how late in the season it is with reduced recovery time).

I think people are watching to see the players interact in a "light hearted atmosphere". I agree with others that have said a flag football (doesn't do much for the linemen) or a "Superstars" type competition might be better.

Or just have them play a multi-player video game.
I wouldn't mind seeing him playing centerfield....

for us in Hail Mary situations.
He is more likely to get hurt

driving to the airport, or working out in the gym.
Beckum a two way player ?

That would be story and he can also play QB with his arm. Best pick we have made in this era. Love this guy and his attitude.

He can make for a good Cornerback.

Can't imagine the sh%t storm here
NNJ Tom : 2/1/2016 2:52 pm : link
if he had gotten hurt.

On the flip side, why not try him a free safety? He has crazy ball skills and speed. I bet he probably tackles well too (he does everything well on the FB Field)
I wasn't too happy to hear it
GMenLTS : 2/1/2016 2:53 pm : link
but I'm not gonna lie, the thought of it sounds interesting.

We do know the guy knows how to hit with a full head of steam...
If you watched
GiantsRage2007 : 2/1/2016 3:03 pm : link
He didn't come close to making a play or making contact. It was more like playing cf in a baseball game and no one hit a fly ball.

Much ado about nothing.

returning kicks.

Hell
Matt M. : 2/1/2016 3:33 pm : link
Wasn't it last year or the year before, a highly touted rookie blew out his knee in a flag football game?

I don't mind them playing in the game, although at this point I would rather they simply don't play the game at all. But, I do not like the idea of our players playing positions they would never play in a real game. This is a team that is supposedly very interested in trying to address injuries. I would think this is a red flag for them.

That is a little different. That is for his team, in a real game that counts, and for a specific play or series of plays. This is an exhibition game, where his own coaches are not involved.

What does that have to do with anything? His coaching staff determined he was the team's best option to return kicks. As such, he was playing there, even if an exhibition game. I still, to this day, do not have a problem with that decision. It was not a unique decision and there was plenty of precedent at the time and still today.

this wasnt even the intensity of a flag football game. Players were running 3/4 speed except on fly routes. Noone was cutting or planting and the refs were blowing the whistle as soon as a defender was in the vicinity of an offensive player. The players were basically playing half speed 1 hand touch. It really wasnt a big deal.

The people who have a problem with it. Ridiculous. Outraged at the stupidest things.

It's an all star game. Dudes an athlete. Come on
Beckham is a heavy hitter
Patrick77 : 2/1/2016 7:51 pm : link
Didn't you see him hit Norman as if he were brandon merriweather?

He probably would be the Giants best safety lol.

The Pro Bowl is essentially a group game of patty cake. I wouldn't care if beckham lined up at guard.
Can you believe
grizz299 : 2/2/2016 3:22 am : link
that at one time this game was between the NFL champion and a bunch of college all stars that had about a week to practice together.
Baseball is a team game of individuals. Football is a team game about systems. The idea of people playing it in the same sense that baseball player play there's is asinine.
It HAS to be abolished.
This is a time when the overally powerful and fast player is increasingly fragile..and effectively playing on a smaller field.
End it. It's not football, no one cares, it's dangerous.
Matt M. It has to do with
David B. : 2/2/2016 8:05 am : link
with players taking unnecessary risks. Your frequently hamstrung, star WR playing Saftey in a LESS than meaningless Pro Bowl game? I know there isn't much hitting in the Pro Bowl, but Beckham made at least one tackle. Shit happens. Why risk it? If I were the Giants, I wouldn't want that any more than I'd want him on a motorcycle without a helmet or playing with M-80s. Fortunately, he got away with it.

As for Sehorn, that too was in a meaningless game, but at least he was in a Giants uniform, and the coach had blessed it.
