“We’re sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on TV and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, ‘I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.’
“When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach [Mike Pettine]. I’m like ‘this guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.”’
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
Johnny Football turning into a homeless man's Kenny Stabler in Dallas would be hilarious and good for the league. Jerry would give him so much rope, he's hang himself, Dez and Hardy in one swoop!

Hell no! Don't want this clown anywhere near the giants.
Everyone knows Dallas wants him - he's a recent draftee, so he's got to be on a favorable rookie contract. They can keep him there on the bench to rot, or until Dallas is willing to fork over something, anything, to get him.

will be linked to Manziel is if they are trying to drive the price up on him so Dallas won't sign him for a song. They will want Jerruh to overpay for him. The Giants have zero interest in him otherwise.
Remember this stuff?
Quote:
If Manziel slides to them, the Giants would seriously consider drafting him, a person with knowledge of the team's draft philosophy told NJ.com. The person claims the Giants would have that discussion (and likely already have chatted about the possible scenario), despite having two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning on the roster.
The Giants were goading Jerruh to trade up and overpay and they nearly got him to draft him before his son stepped in and made the Zack Martin pick.

The Giants won't be linked to him. With everything now known, they probably don't even care about driving up the price. Manziel has a substance abuse problem (at a minimum) and still hasn't even shown he can play in this league. Anything more than the minimum is an overpay.

And you wonder why the Browns are the Browns.
Knowing how bad they were at drafting, the Browns hired an outside company to consult on their first round pick. They told them to draft Bridgewater.
but down the road he could turn into something. For his sake, I hope he does. It's one thing to just not be good enough but to waste the opportunity and not even give yourself a chance is really sad.
Derek Anderson was the Browns best QB in that period and it isn't saying much considering he had really only one good year and then imploded a year or two later.
In fact I recall Anderson and Braylon Edwards torching the Giants I think the year after he SB win.
Charlie Frye is another QB they had during that period that had a brief stretch of success in a few games one season but quickly faded.
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
in recent months here - the latest discussion ruined by Kulish.
Highly doubt the Cowboys bite. Certainly not before the draft. Jerry does put in the time and money to protect players like this - but the QB needs to be the leader of the team, this isnt a Corner or DE where paying a guard to tail him 24/7 is enough.
There are easier ways to develop a backup QB, and Romo should have another 4 years left in him anyway.
Romo will be 36 to start next season. Hard to see four more years from him, but maybe that's blue colored glasses. I think they'll be lucky to get two more years of top-level (similar to his 2014) production from him.

unless the non-throwing shoulder injury is chronic at this point, he should have 4 more years in him. He's shown no signs of decline in his play yet and he's (by virtue of injuries, starting later in his career than #10, and less playoff success lol) got a lot less tread on his tires than Eli to date. I'm not sure why to assume Eli plays later in life than Romo.
they do need to get themselves a better backup just in case of course, and I'm sure they will. Probably through the draft, but they may also pursue someone like Gabbert, Hoyer or McCown.
There's just too much risk in Manziel right now. He's an alcoholic and needs to beat that first. Football a distant second for him.
I'd be surprised if he stays completely healthy for 4 more seasons.
And we'll find out how the Cowboys feel in the draft. No way they take a QB in the top 2 rounds if they're confident Romo will play 4 more seasons at a high level. With little cap room, they need to reload on talent to make a SB run in Romo's window.
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
This is one of the worst suggestions I've ever read on this site in 16 years.
more than 2 years. I thought Manziel flat out won the QB competition this summer. He was saying all the right things, performing well in preseason, looked way more focused. IMO, he was hitting the sauce again once he found out he lost the job. Obviously, not the mature way of handling things, but the Browns did their part in fucking this up too.
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
Why would we want to get rid of a super disciplined, cerebral, sober QB with a short drunken QB who is the NFL's version of Charlie Sheen??? What drugs are you on, cuz they must be strong...lol
Manziel had a chance to be an average to above average QB in the NFL if he applied himself 100% to the game, but he has traded that opportunity for partying with drunken kids and making a fool of himself in public. He will be a cancer to any team that signs him. Not Giants' material!
Couch actually could play. He got the shit kicked out of him. He was a rookie QB on the expansion Browns and took them to the playoffs before he got hurt. He was sacked almost 3 times per game
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
Why in the world would the Browns trade for a backup QB which has proven nothing when they have the 2nd overall pick in the draft? Hello?
and hasn't demonstrated the work ethic required to be a pro QB on a sustained basis. he will get a fresh start and another chance with one of the other 31 pro franchises, most likely in a backup role. but if he fudges that one up he's heading up here for some grey cup action!!!
the Browns used (at least) a 1st-round pick on:
- Johnny Manziel
- Brandon Weeden
- Brady Quinn
- Tim Couch
That's basically rebooting the franchise quarterback search every three or four years, without getting a single thing out of any of them.
That seems kind of hard to do.
And think about all the QBs drafted in the second round or later who outperformed those guys:
Derek Carr
Russell Wilson
Brock Osweiler
Nick Foles
Kirk Cousins
Colin Kaepernick
Andy Dalton
Chad Henne
Kyle Orton
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Matt Schaub
David Garrard
Drew Brees
Marc Bulger
Tom Brady
There's some so-so names and some flash in the pans but many of those guys got their teams into the playoffs, some won superbowls, some will be in the hall of fame.
came back from a battle with alcoholism and managed to have a very fine career (and we were the biggest beneficiaries).
so it's not impossible that he turns things around.
however, unlike Collins, manziel seems to be surrounded by bad apples and seems to find trouble. Collins also had a rocket for an arm and the height/build of a pro QB whereas johnny football's game is more suited for college or the cfl.
For whatever you can get and sign Johnny. If anyone can teach a young QB to become a professional it's Eli Manning. Still think he's extremely talented.
Are you Manziel's drinking buddy?
Whar makes him talented? His lack of pocket awareness? His lack of ability to read through progressions...or because he won in college>?

Solid decision making skills there.
Manziel texted you?
And he wants to be here?
Give him millions.
Hell no! Don't want this clown anywhere near the giants.
Um, no.
No way would I want the Giants to acquire this guy, can't believe anyone will. Don't think his talent warrants any more chances.
