How can anyone who saw the game make this claim?

What I hate about arguments like this
Matt M. : 2/3/2016 4:18 pm : link
is some people will incorrectly take comments as a knock on LT, which they aren't. they also might take it as overly inflating Banks, which also is false. This is simply a case of pointing out that in the SB, Banks was their best player. Overall, nobody would ever suggest Banks was the same caliber player as LT. But, not too many players really were. In his day, Banks was in that next tier of players.

There have been hundreds of big championship games over the last 50 years. Francesa has been to all but noine of them. Noine.

Back this, his professional life was a noine, but his personal life was a two.

Harry Carson

is underrated even by Giant fans. He was born about 5 years too soon and wasted a lot of his prime on horrible teams. Carl Banks played at HOF level for a few years. Harry Carson was an all time great 4-3 MLB before he became a HOF inside LB. LT cast a big shadow and Carson and Banks never really got their national due because of it.
Wasn't Jamie Williams the player the Giants cut by mistake?
Big Blue Blogger : 2/3/2016 4:45 pm : link
I think it was 81_Great_Dane who shared the story: Something along the lines of, the team was tipped off that their rookie TE had a drug problem, so they dumped Williams because they thought he fit the profile of a user. Turned out the tip was accurate, but they cut the wrong guy.

Anyway, if we're discussing a Francesa tweet - no matter how idiotic - he's doing his job. That kind of public, on-line provocation is pure click bait. Banks did him a favor by barking back.

1) LT was the best player (not defensive player, but player) in my lifetime and possibly all time, in my opinion.

2) Banks was an excellent LB in his own right. Holding him to an LT standard is just not fair. The same can be said of Carson, although I think Carson is slightly better than Banks.

3) Banks absolutely was the Giants best defensive player in SB XXI and it wasn't even close.

4) LT did not have great SB games. I also think it is unfair to say that is all because of triple teams and diminish other players' accomplishments. Throughout his entire career, LT played at another level regardless of double teams, triple teams, OT, OG, RB, TE, etc. blocking him. He gets praised for that and for changing the game and the way offenses structured their blocking schemes. So, you can't then turn around and say he didn't have great games because he was triple teamed.

Good post Matt. I agree LT is the best player PERIOD that I have ever seen. My dad always said Jim Brown was #1 but LT was a very close 2nd.
LT- defense...
GA5 : 2/3/2016 7:10 pm : link
Jim Brown-offense. They had to change the way the game was played to deal with both if them. Sometimes it seemed like they were men among boys. For me, by far the two greatest.

100%

Banks was probably one of the more underrated NFL players ever because he played with a cyborg.
honestly

everyone should watch the Francesa video posted the other day. Anything he says could be either interesting or literally a blatant complete fabrication.

Belcher was on his way to being one of the best centers in the NFL until his accident. That was some draft!

makes a living at this is a mystery to me. He is a fucking clown, completely clueless. He has no clue what he's talking about most of the time, but still runs his mouth, and people actually listen to his fat ass...Mind boggling.

Maybe b/c he's smarter than the morons who call and the other hosts on the network. Look at the competition even outside of WFAN.
LT was all but neutralized in super bowl 25
djm : 2/4/2016 10:32 am : link
and even that took double teams and the Giants only rushing 2-3 guys tops.

He may have been quiet for hi standards but LT was still a madman in super bowl 21. HE stood out more than any other player not named Carl Banks just because of his sheer ability and presence. Super bowl 25 was a different story.

I would argue that Carl Banks should have made the Super Bowl All-50 team over Taylor.
