6'7" 300 lbs. 22 years old.
A freak. In the mold of the intimidating DL's we used to have. Played 5T in Oregon's 34. Strong as an ox - long arms and huge powerful hands. Physical and smart. Despite his size he looks and moves like a Defensive End. Noted leader who received big credit from his coaches for making sure his teammates were ready. "Great at that," according to his position coach. The entire D was on his shoulders.
Considered a better prospect than Arik Armstead who went 17th to the 49ers last year and looked good.
Stats
2015: 83 tackles, 17 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 5 PDs,
2014: 81 tackles, 13 TFL, 4 sacks, 4 PDs, 1 FF
At first glance projecting to the Giants you'd pass right over this guy (34DE) but he fits nicely into Spags multiple-front D and seems to check all the boxes we might be interested in.
Leaner and quicker.
We'd probably need both Wentz and Goff to go in the top 9.
I think he's a 3-4 DE, but if he's on the board, he's my leading candidate for the Giants at #10. I think they'll just fall in love with his size and production, like they did with JPP.
He's mostly a bull rusher right now. He needs better pass rush moves. Guys that tall also typically have problems bending the edge, and OL can get under their pads.
Here is a good review of him, including his lack of success against Conklin of Michigan State.

Doesn't have the bubble butt or thickness through the chest of Wilkerson. I'm not sure that there's a great comparison to him in pro football...he seems unique in how he carries his size and weight. More like a basketball player, imo.
Someone mentioned earlier that he isn't very flexible or bendy and if thats true then he won't be effective the same way Tuck was. Part of what made Tuck so effective was that he had great flexibility and balance. You could knock him around and he'd never lose his balance. He'd just keep coming.
34, 33, 32, 31, 30 + a Joker. Spags showed it all last year
10. New York Giants: DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon
New York's pass rush needs upgrading, and Buckner is a great choice on the edge. He has unique length and athleticism, and finished last season with 83 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks....

10) New York Giants: DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon
Building talent up front is a hallmark of the Giants, so grabbing a versatile defender like Buckner here makes a lot of sense.
Color me skeptical. Spagnuolo was gone when the Giants signed Canty. Spags eventually recruited Fred Robbins to St. Louis, and he seems to like some Hankins-scale bulk at both DT spots. As for DE, it's really hard for a man as tall as Buckner to turn the corner on a good pro offensive tackle. To justify the #10 pick for a 4-3 defense, I think he would need to blow up the Combine (and if he does, he probably won't last to #10)
With our LB's?
Excellent comparison. I don't see the fit unless they go to a different style of 4-3 defense like the Seahawks played a few years ago.
another trade down concept year, possibly with players like ncmdiche and billings and whomever out there
then start finding your linebackers and free safeties.

can we just move to a 34 already?
With our LB's?
Every level of the defense is busted anyway. Might as well.
Agreed. They have been pouring resources into the OL. If you look at the top 2 rounds of the past 3 drafts 3 of those 6 picks have been OL.
Well, the Reverend Ernest David Kelley and his wife Clora, to start.
Dammit, Jim - I'm a doctor, not a 5-technique DE!
Anyway, drafting Buckner would recall Tom Brady's complaint during Super Bowl LXVI that, passing against Pierre-Paul, Canty, Tuck, Joseph and Umenyiora, he couldn't see DeForest for DeTrees. Or something like that.
Maybe his parents named him that because they liked to take walks in de forest.
