But hell if I didn't think we lost the game when CWeb fell down and Moss scored the TD to go up 14-10.
It's funny because I remember at that moment feeling, obviously crushed, but moreso proud of them for the game they had played, the run they went on, and I was ready to tip my cap to what everyone would have said was the greatest team of all time.
Little did I know that with 2:39 left on the clock Eli Manning would step on to the field and change football history forever.
I read an article yesterday (might have been here) - regarding Tuck's retirement. Talked about the sound bite of Brady commenting on Plaxico's prediction of the final score.
Brady - (laughing) "We are only going to score 17 points"?
The article said nobody in the defensive meeting room said anything - they just looked at each other and there was nothing but hate for him after seeing it.
Great defensive performance that day against a very potent offense.
I go back and read Simmons' recap of the game. His tears are still just as delicious eight years later. 'Free fallin' out into nothing' - ( New Window )
Best part:
Um. Bill Simmons, four years later called. You're not going to like this.
I was in Berlin with Charlie at Columbia, on our way to Austria where I was teaching a seminar.
We watched the game in German with no commercials, from like 1 am to 4:30, then had to get up at like 6 am for a flight. The German announcers couldn't stop talking about Domenik Hixon, who was born in Germany.
It was a great morning in Berlin!

That's interesting, I'd have thought they would talk more about Strahan, who spent a good amount of his youth in Germany.

It was a strange feeling. After winning in Tampa, beating Dallas after the season sweep, and cramming the Lambeau playoff mystique up Favre's self-Important ass there was definitely a feeling that you couldn't count that team out, regardless of New England's date with history.
Yet when it actually happened there was still a feeling of disbelief. I usually watch games alone so I can focus and enjoy them uninterrupted I did have a small party that night. And everyone at my house: a Bears fan, a Lions fan, a handful of Eagles fans-everyone was pulling for the Giants. When the final pass fell incomplete the place erupted. I had two bottles I was saving for a very special occasion, Johnny Walker Blue and a bottle of Gosset a Grand Blanc, and both were popped that night, the Blanc in true locker room style. Literally sprayed my living room like a madman.Stayed up all night watching coverage and highlights. Took 4 days off, work and made the trip up from Philly for the parade, met VinR, Kevin in CT, and for,dr poster Coach Lubrano. The whole week was like a dream and I felt like I was walking on a cloud. For a diehard sports fan this was the pinnacle. I knew it would never be that good again and I treated the situation appropriately.
I had a pitch to do for a prospective client in Boston Â
Game 6 ended ... especially considering they won Game 7.
Then that game happened.
The second win over NE was just as sweet for me, but only slightly less of a days-long Adrenalin rush. I remember staying home from work the next day ... went out and bought about 6 newspapers ... just read everything I could while watching any/all sports talk shows.

Doubtful that'll come around again. Maybe if the Knicks can get a champion ship, it might be a lot of fun. Then again, nothing like winning the Super Bowl.
I saved a Davisian post from that time it was so good: Â
The "OMG I was like "Oh shit, he's gonna get sacked, we're gonna lose," but then Eli was all "nuh-uh, I'm gettin outta here" but the Pats guys were like "well, I'm grabbin some Jersey" but Eli was like "you can't stop me with a jersey pull" and then I was like "holy shit, he got away" but then it looked like Vrabel was going to KILL him, so I was all "Throw the ball Eli!" but then I thought about the possibility of a pick, so I was like "But don't throw a pick." Then he heaved it and I was like "Please let a Giant catch the ball" and I saw Tyree and Harrison and I was like "Oh FUCK its Tyree" but Tyree was all "Fuck yo Mama, I'm makin this catch" and Harrisonw as like "fuck no you ain't" but Tyree was like "Bitch safety getting pwned sez what?" and Harrison was like "Take THAT and THAT, but Tyree was all "That didn't hurt, I can do it with one hand and my head fool" and he held on an I was all "WOOOOOHOOOO! FUCKIN A" and the Patriots were all "Dude.. that sucked.." and the Giants were all "KUNG FUUU!" and all sorts of reactions and shit, and even though I was drunk as shit, I'll never forget it.."
was like the end of some corny sports movie where the underdog team pulls off the last-second miracle against the overwhelming favorite - except it was for real, and it's ours to enjoy forever.
"I just want to say to all you Giants fans who've supported us for 30 years at Giants Stadium, all those years at Yankee Stadium, and some of you even back to the Polo Grounds - this is for you!"
Ever...

I can't believe people post on BBI during a Giants Super Bowl. This made the thread worth scanning:

8 years later ..... enough : )

one thing that in my view made the game extra special was seeing less known guys like tyree, boss and alford step up with huge plays.
Not that I like watching losses, but yeah
The only other thing I'm dying to see is a Knick ring, but even that is on the 'be happy for 2007' list
