Did people really think he was going anywhere - especially with all the question marks with Gordon - he is their best offensive skill player. Not even Cleveland would let that go
Obvious targets are Marvin Jones ($$$$$), Jermaine Kearse, Mohamed Sanu.
But what about Rishard Matthews??

I really like this guy. Maybe more than Kearse and Sanu. I haven't seen him talked about much here. 662 yards in 11 games last season before fractured ribs ended his season. He is fast and can take the top off a defense. I think he'd be a great #2 option. If the Dolphins sign him, he will be in competition with Parker and Landry. He's an upgrade over Rueben Randle in my opinion and might not come at such a high price.
Andre Holmes might also be an option.

Undrafted Free Agent. Was the Raiders leading receiver in 2014 with 693 yards. 2015 was a bust for him. The Raiders drafted Amari Cooper and signed Michael Crabtree. Seth Roberts came out of nowhere as another UDFA. Holmes is a big guy with good speed who could benefit from the attention given to Beckham.
I'd also take a flier on Rod Streater in addition to someone else.

Another UDFA. The Raiders are doing something right here. Came on really strong in 2013 with 888 yards. Got hurt in 2014. Got sick in 2015 and was left buried on the depth chart. I'm not really sure why. Maybe someone else knows what happened but he appeared healthy much of the season. He's been productive in the past. This could be the type of guy you get for peanuts and will either pay off huge or be off the roster by the end of August.
Is better then Benjamin. He's gotten screwed in Miami. They keep giving his spot to higher picks/free agents even though he's continued to outperform them in camp, practice & games.
to look like there won't be a lot of good options on the FA market.
We are going to have to overpay for mediocre talent in Free Agency. Too many teams keeping their own players with the cap going up. Not a good year for the Giants to have so many needs!
Actually may be on this team.. I'm all for one year deals this offseason, there is no one out there... Could we have actually gotten Suh last year? It seems we have the cap space this year so I don't know how we don't have it?

Randle is a priority to not be resigned. From a financial point of view, yes, maybe a 1 year deal makes sense. But, from a team aspect, he's been a QB killer now in 2 different offensive systems. Almost anyone would be a better alternative.

This is a major bummer to have 50mm in cap space and nobody worth spending it on if teams continue to lock up their own players. I guess this really highlights the need to draft well... I'm beating a dead horse I know but, man, this draft is important for the defensive side of the ball.

Respectfully, I think you and Eric are both overreacting.
will be some players. As someone else said, cash strapped teams will be unable to sign everyone. The danger is that we'll overpay out of desperation, especially at WR, and on the DL.

As I said yesterday, there is always a "top tier" of players available. I'm not advocating going hog wild there, but if Reese doesn't acquire 1 or 2 players from that tier, what exactly are we accomplishing in FA? Replacing our crap with slightly better smelling crap isn't going to get this team any better and only pushes the timeframe of putting a playoff contender on the field back maybe a full season (2018 instead of 2017, perhaps?).
Talk about a low ceiling type player. It would be a drastic overreaction to the phenomenon that is Reuben Randle. Eli has made it work with a slew of other receivers that could actually get some separation deep. No need to get slower just to add a good hands/good attitude guy.
We all ASSUMED many of these name guys would be tagged or extended, yet when it happens, panic sets in..
agreed.
There will be players available.....most notably really good players that will become cap casualties. I also think the Giants could look to trade for a player that they're focused on. I can't see them wanting to part with any draft picks this year, but maybe a high 2017 draft pick.

There are better players than Rueben Randle currently available and there may be more shaking loose as free agency begins. Its very early still.

Agree. Team is sitting on all this money, but the FAs worth spending some of it on may be off the market before free agency begins. Please JR don't do like last year and spend it on a bunch of backups and special teamers.
We fill the remaining holes in the draft... Those that aren't filled will be addressed next year. We knew that this project wasn't going to be done in one year. Let's focus on modest improvements like making the playoffs.
does any savings move forward to 2017?
My thinking is, if FA market dwindles to 'ok' guys due to taggings or extensions, '17 might play out better.
Lets just draft well and get comp picks in the future because WE didn't resign some of OUR own guys.
He will get paid well. I hate playing MMQB but I believe he was selected with the 5th round pick the Giants traded for Rivers while the Giants picked the JPP of TEs in the 4th.
But Sanu has excellent ball skills, size, and willing to go over the middle. He's also a strong runner. Sanu is an upgrade over Randle. He could work IF we draft a burner too. Coleman from Baylor in round 2 or Listenbee from TCU in round 3.
One of the main reasons Floyd and Fitz were so productive in Arizona was the burners they had on the field with him.
Beckham with Jones/Sanu and a guy like Coleman would lead to an outstanding pass game.
Even better? Sign Jeffries if he's available. Give him the big cash (he's worth it) and still draft a burner like Coleman/Listenbee.
Is the guy we need to sign. He's the best free agent out there except Alshon.
Philbin had no plans for him at all. They traded a 2nd for Kenny Stills, drafted Parker in the 1st this past year. Drafted Jarvis Landry high. They did not want him on the field. Up until his rib injury he was the Fins leading WR. Rishard Matthews - ( New Window )

I don't know much about Sanu honestly, but I do know he has a ton of drops this year.
Why? We need a solid 2- what has he proven? Very up and down in Miami last year.
Anyone who shakes lose will come with their warts. Whether it's an injury history, bloated salary, declined play, or a combination of the 3.
FA isn't what it used to be. Mike Barrow was a june 1st cut for christ sake.

I honestly think Sanu is going to get quite a payday in what this market seems to be shaping up to be.

Thank you.. geez grow some balls..
You want a free agent- pay. What is unrealistic is the expectation of what it will take to sign desirable free agents.
