Thought it was the top value pick of day 2 in the NFL last year grade wise.
He was underwhelming in preseason. Looked uncomfortable. Unathletic. Stiff.
I think his physical package is Tuck like...and when you go see his UCLA tapes thats who he looked like. Hoping he just needs more time and more than that...uninterrupted repetitions.
For the time he was in, he seemed like the only Giants DE in recent memory that didn't bite on Quarterback option run and maintained edge responsibility
I agree that it's hard to judge anyone with limited playing time.

Sy, it's tough to judge the small sample size, but could it be that he needs to be a 3-4 end 2-gap type?
Hankins, Joseph, Bromley all spent the bulk of season one riding the pine. That doesn't mean OO is cut out for stardom, but I think it's right to suspend judgment.
a full year in teh NFL will make him better. He needs to take the next step this year and show the value now. He's certainly got the strength. Also hoping that the new DLine Coach can further develop him!
Owa played 3-4 DE mostly at UCLA, so he's undergoing the learning process of both becoming an NFL pro, and a scheme/position switch. He needs to reach the point where his job becomes instinctive, he was obviously thinking too much out there. Looked good versus Bills, had some monster games at UCLA.

^This. He's a position switcher, although many thought he was actually better suited for a 4-3 than the 3-4 he played at UCLA. But switching positions is tough, especially as a rookie. I do hope he isn't the dreaded injury prone player, since he had hip surgeries in college. The irony is that the Giants really wanted Lockett or Strong, but the Seahawks and Texans traded up ahead of them for those players.
we know anything. two hip surgeries in college, a hamstring and a foot injury his rookie season. There is cause for concern, not panic yet, but concern.
is the better comparison. Would like to see him anchor better vs. the run and with increased strength, and Sy's and Lowell's characterization of stiff/unathletic are worrisome and a bit of what I saw. And we certainly didn't see much.
If the stiff/unathletic are a result of his hip issues, notwithstanding the Giants' med staff and scouts as a clean bill of health, this would be worrisome and, given recent player draft history at most positions, not surprising.
I look at him like a baseball team looks at a star coming off the DL at the trade deadline. It's like a "free" acquisition. Odi is essentially an additional draft pick this year but he gets the major advantage of having some NFL season experience and gets the benefit of an entire offseason of seasoning (weight training/film/coaching/etc). I never thought he looked comfortable or confident in the time we saw him this year. I'm hopeful we see a completely different player next year.
He is a 6-3 270lb DE with loads of upside. Everyone thought he was going to get picked earlier than he did. Get him reps, get him on the field, get rid of Selvie & Wynn
He looked like he was thinking a bit too much out there. Could be from switching to a 4-3 or not quite confident in the injury or maybe a combo of both. Hopefully a year in he will show much more
No Owa is much better off in the 4-3. He just needs some time and needs to stay on the field. Being in the NFL but not practicing/playing....can't progress that way. Gotta get him healthy then go from there.
couldnt get to the passer. From my memory, and it was awhile back, he looked to be an effective rusher early in his career. Then the staff started fucking with him at lbker after he got hurt. Party was over then.

I hope that under a new coach, rookies will be given more of an opportunity to play. TC was a butt head about giving kids a chance to show their stuff IMO . Here`s hopin.

This is so patently false that it leads one to believe that you never actually watch a game.
He was a well-regarded player in the draft by most media accounts.
I'd like to say I have high hopes, but I've got managed expectations from the Giants lately. Him not being able to get out there much in his rookie season didn't help matters much.
