but apparently he's the priority for the Pats this offseason. I doubt they let him go, especially after what Wilfork did for that team during his career.
be cool" to play for whoever offers him the most money, and I don't blame him at all. Every player should get whatever they can, but I wouldn't pay him what he's surely going to want. And why is he talking about FA days before he plays in the Super Bowl?
however this draft is heavy with DTs and we can still get a guy, potentially like Rankins in the 2nd round, rather then paying an exorbinant salary to him.
Nice bit of trivia that Jackson played with Kennard at USC in 2009.
That was Kennard's true freshman season, and he was a big contributor. Jackson transferred the next year, so I figured they didn't overlap, since Kennard wasn't drafted until 2014. I forgot about his medical redshirt season for the torn pec.
Anyway, I doubt the comments mean much. It's about the $$$.
Would be a nice addition to the Dline, however this draft is heavy with DTs and we can still get a guy, potentially like Rankins in the 2nd round, rather then paying an exorbinant salary to him.
Even first rounders often take a year to catch up, and the bust rate is pretty high. If the staff likes Hankins and Bromley as starters, then the rotation can be built around tham and the draft is probably the way to go. If they have doubts about Bromley, or about retaining Hankins beyond 2016, it might make sense to pay up for a top UFA DT.
he's clearly the kind of athlete we'd be interested in. big, long arms, 26 years old. coming off a productive season. and yes, he plays exactly the same position canty played for wade phillips.
is he a world beater? no. but he's a solid starter and we need several of them
Still on the anti LB bandwagon after all these losing seasons? LOL! I think even Reese will finally wake up and realize that it's time to finally take a Myles Jack in the 1st round.
Would be a great addition to the Giants front four. He's young, athletic and scheme versatile.
He may not get the sack numbers, but he is totally worth going after in free agency.
According to PFF...
Quote:
"The pair of Malik Jackson and Derek Wolfe had excellent years in Denver's defensive front, but the likelihood of Jackson returning to the Broncos took a hit when Denver recently gave Wolfe a big extension. Jackson will surely cash in somewhere as a disruptive interior pass rusher, even if it's not with the Broncos. Amongst 3-4 defensive ends, only J.J. Watt, Muhammad Wilkerson, and Fletcher Cox had more total pressure."
try to maximize their value that year, especially if they win. Unless he really wants to come to The Giants and NYC, he will be asking too much probably.
Wolfe and Curry received, it's obvious we'd have to over spend to get a player like Jackson. They set the market for players like Vernon and Jackson. With that being said, I'd be fine with giving Jackson 9-10 mill a year. Is that too much? Yes, but this defense needs players and Nyg's finally have money to spend.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure its the other way around between him and Wolfe. Not to say Wolfe's any kind of scrub but Jackson's the more all around does everything well type guy. He physically looks like and plays a similar role on that defense to what Trevor Pryce did back in the Broncos Super Bowl years. Hard to fathom any circumstance where he can't get at least 10 mil per year. Unless the Broncos are really lowballing him he'd be stupid to leave Wade Phillips defense though since it fits him perfectly. Not sure he'd hit the same production in other schemes.
The Broncos have little choice but to lowball him. Barring some major cuts the Broncos will be hard pressed to keep him and Miller, and the QB. The Peyton money wont cover both Osweiler and Miller.
Malik is only a Bronco if he is willing to work for peanuts.
But, I'm a big Damon Harrison fan. He might give us what they were chasin in Kevin Williams, and Kendrick Ellis. And, reportedly he's very coachable, so, he's got room to grow.
If they can get Hankins back on his upward trajectory, I think him and Harrison would be a very dominant DT tandem. Bromley would fit great in that rotation and maybe Hughes can continue to develop - and then there's the draft.
I just don't know if they'll find what they're looking for at DE.
I really like Pats DT, Akiem Smith.
Had his best year as a pro this year. 6'5 325lbs. Him and Hankins inside would be a nice package.
And would he cost much less than Joseph did? That is just a great example of why his team has holes. Small mistakes have a domino effect. Beason extended I read of Josoeph. weakened the front 4 and got nothing from Beason due to injury. Hurt both groups.
First of all, I can't believe that Jackson is making this comment right before the Super Bowl he is about to play in. Shows a complete lack of sense to be talking like this now. That said, Jackson could certainly help the Giants defense (hell my grandmother could) but he is no world beater. Just a solid player. Giants will need to get a splash player (i.e. pass rushing DE) in the 1st round regardless.
As a side note, and not that we need any more evidence, but the Denver GM took Jackson with the 137th pick (early 5th round) in the 2012 draft right after Reese selected the forgettable Adrian Robinson and Brandon Mosley with picks 127 and 131 (late 4th round), respectively. This is clear evidence that some GMs know what they are doing and some just don't. Unfortunately, we are presently stuck with the latter.

That is a ridiculous criticism. Every GM in the NFL passed on Victor Cruz 7 times. They passed on Tom Brady 6 times.
Like Brady and Cruz it seems Malik Jackson blossomed into much more than his pre-draft projection. I'm sure he even exceeded Denver's expectations for a late draft pick.
...to have Malik play for the Giants...but not at if he comes with a $12M price tag. Somewhere in the $9M range is fair for a non elite pass rushing DL.
Why is this guy even answering questions like that...
LB at #10? Highly unlikely.

I'd sign up for that.

LoL -- his nickname is "Snacks"

How many super bowl titles does that great Denver GM have by the way? Probably none ..

Can't blame the guy for simply answering a question.
