The ex-girlfriend of NFL superstar quarterback Johnny Manziel told police that the Heisman Trophy winner told her "shut up or I'll kill us both" after forcing her into a car, hitting her and dragging her by the hair "I was crying and begged the valet, 'Please don't let him take me. I'm scared for my life!'" she told police. The valet reportedly told her, "I don't know what to do" and let Manziel leave with her. |
I don't agree.
A lot of folks are wrapped up in the popular narrative that Manziel was flaming out on the field but it really wasn't the case. As an NFL quarterback, Johnny made incredible leaps from his disastrous rookie season to his sophomore campaign and put up a QBR around 80 as a starter, with a few of those games coming on the road against great defenses (Seattle, KC, etc). You even heard veterans within the Cleveland lockerroom talk about Manziel being dedicated to the craft and doing "the right things within the building." Within a vacuum devoid of his personal issues, a 22 year old QB that put on tape what he flashed would be rather exciting.
I'd argue that the major turning point came at the incident in Avon (road incident with his GF) which further culminated when he was given the starting gig but returned to Austin to party during the BYE week preceding the next game. Prior to those incidents we thought that we had post-rehab Johnny who was in control of himself and rededicated to football. After those incidents it has become on shot after another, literally.
I do think it's fascinating/sad/heartening that so many players, coaches, celebrities, etc are volunteering their support to Manziel..as chemical dependencies & emotional issues clearly have touched a lot of folks. Hopefully Johnny can straighten his life out and salvage a career.
It's almost as if Manziel is completely oblivious to his issues and does view this as a conspiracy against him, or he is just willing to concede his lifelong ambitions as a football player.
Then he finds God and becomes a holly roller condemning the evils of drink and fornication. Some team in the South gives him a camp invite. He continues to suck, gets cut and hopefully is never heard from him again.

Completely denying the existence of the problem is the hallmark of alcoholism. He is just not going to see it until it gets bad enough to look in the mirror, just like most people blinded by things they would rather attribute to being caused by everyone but themselves. It's the reason our prisons are filled, the cause of most wars, and the foundation of familial dysfunction on the planet.
Browns are denying this (because if they lied about the concussion they can get in yet more trouble), but would explain what was an odd late in week diagnosis of a concussion as well as the sudden and with conviction view all of a sudden that they were moving on from JM.
Hope this kid checks himself into rehab ASAP.
Yeah, stick it to those progressives.
Rehab, counseling, compassion....the hallmarks of old tymee football.
So is literally every NFL player who acts violent and dangerous getting the CTE pass right away?
Manziel is likely very deserving of all the flack he's received.

Clearly someone in dire need of medical help, yet the progressives on BBI are fast to condemn.
Interesting choice of time and topic to decide to pounce on that wagon.
