Shaun O'Hara: What my Super Bowl ring means to me

SAN FRANCISCO — The Super Bowl ring.

To everyone in the elite group who gets to wear it, it is more than just NFL bling, more than just a reward for a great season. Superstardom alone is no guarantee of ownership. They can almost touch it sometimes and then an unexpected play, a forward pass inches too far, a missed block -- any or all of that -- can leave the best of them with a naked ring finger.

Dan Marino never earned a Super bowl ring. Jim Kelly never earned a Super Bowl ring. Fran Tarkenton never earned one. They are all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It should be clear, then, that the quest for the ring has nothing to do with salary, press clippings or fan clubs. But it should be clear that, on championship teams, no matter where a guy plays and how many minutes he plays, one way or another, he gets his ring because he earned it.

Great story
But I was told players don't care about Championships

as much fans do. That you can be a great player like Marino have Hall of Fame career and wake up everyday not caring that you never won a Super Bowl, that being in the Hall of Fame was enough.
Nice read

that '07 team was great, almost underrated now I think. 11 consecutive road wins, tremendous feat.

Also, I think Fassel wore his conference title game ring around. Just saying.
