CBS profiles on 4 most talked about prospects (long)

superspynyg : 2/5/2016 10:36 am
on this board: OLber Jack, DE Ogbah, DE Lawson and DE Buckner. I did not put in CB Alexander or Ramsey. IF you want them let me know. THis site actually has Floridas Bullard ranked higher than Ogbah.

MYLES JACK

Strengths Weaknesses
STRENGTHS: Even on a team full of NFL prospects, Jack's pure athleticism stands out. Compactly-built with good overall musculature, light feet, a fluid turning motion and natural ball-skills, he could make the full-time switch to running back and earn early-round consideration. Given his impact ability on defense, however, teams may hesitate to do that.

Jack is well-suited to today's pass-happy NFL as he combines rare agility and speed with awareness in coverage. He has the fluidity to cover backs and tight ends step for step and anticipates routes well, breaking free from his assignment to close quickly on the ball. Jack's ability in coverage make him ideally suited to playing outside in a 4-3 scheme, where his lack of ideal size is mitigated.

Jack's burst and agility make him an effective edge rusher and he doesn't shy from contact. He shows an explosive pop on contact to break free from would-be blockers. The hand-eye coordination that makes him so effective in breaking up passes shows up in his tackling, as well, as Jack is consistently able to trip up smaller, quicker ballcarriers. Breaks down well and wraps securely for the reliable take-down with little to no yardage allowed after contact.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks ideal size at linebacker. Does not possess ideal length and can get caught up in the wash. Not an explosive hitter. Will need to prove the health of his season-ending knee injury that required surgery and will be limited in his ability to impress scouts on the field during the pre-draft period.

IN OUR VIEW: Out of this game due to a knee injury suffered in September which required season-ending surgery, Jack nonetheless projects as a top 15 pick, boasting perhaps the country's-best combination of instincts and athleticism. Unprecedented as the Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2013, Jack has the vision, agility and speed to star at running back if he wanted to return to that position but is even more valuable on the defensive side of the ball, where he's a true three-down linebacker and future Pro Bowler.

DE SHAQ LAWSON

Strengths Weaknesses
STRENGTHS: Lawson's compact frame and power make him equally effective against the run and the pass, where he shows surprising initial quickness and agility as well as a terrific motor. He has quick, strong hands to create push with his upper-body strength, showing the fluid lower body to drive his legs and smoothly change directions based on his reads.

Lawson is terrific leveraging blocks off the edge, using an iron shoulder and natural body flexibility to dictate his path and beat single blocks. Does a nice job setting the edge and playing contain, working off his blocks to the outside and finishing in space.

WEAKNESSES: Lawson needs to do a better job with his recoil to reset and react to inside runs.

IN OUR VIEW: Lawson's heavy hands allow him to stack and hold his side of the line of scrimmage. He is a power player with the lower body athleticism to be equally dominant against the run and the pass, putting his draft value in the early rounds.

DE DeForest BUCKNER

Strengths Weaknesses
STRENGTHS: Looks the part with a tall, long frame and growth potential to add bulk. Massive wingspan and uses his length to unglue himself from blocks or create spacing at the point of attack, locking out, setting the edge and preventing angle blocks.

Quickly stacks and sheds, using pop in his hands to work off contact. Fluid lower body and athletic footwork to move laterally and break down in tight spaces. Plays low for a man his size with good bend, making it tough for blockers to attack his chest.

Good chase skills and hustle to catch ballcarriers in pursuit. Uses his upper body and initial momentum to generate push off the snap. Rarely met by single blocks, attracting double-teams or chips. Uses his length to swallow ballcarriers as a tackler and drive them backwards.

Long-limbed to obstruct passing lanes (10 career passes defended). Quiet, reserved personality off the field, but warrior mentality on the field, giving full-go whenever he steps on the field. Versatile experience, lining up inside and outside in Oregon's multiple fronts.

WEAKNESSES: Leverage can be an issue at times due to his height. Struggles to recoil and reset himself after his initial move stalls. Still learning how to set up his pass rush sequence and counter moves. Only average snap anticipation.

Needs to know his limitations as a pass rusher and not sacrifice the edge. Still learning how to use his hands and consistently convert speed to power - more of a reactor as a pass rusher. Inconsistent tackler on the move, losing balance in space and not timing his hits. Want to see more of a killer instinct on each snap.

IN OUR VIEW: Buckner played primarily as a defensive end in Oregon's 3-4 base, lining up as the four-, five- or six-technique, but also saw snaps inside in the A-gap or at nose tackle. He plays with explosive movements and terrific body control for his size, flashing heavy hands and initial power to be a disruptive force, although he's still learning how to use his hands and string together rush moves.

Buckner showed steady improvement at Oregon and became more of a consistent playmaker as a senior - perhaps Stanford head coach David Shaw described Buckner best when he said: "If you're building a defensive lineman, that's what you build."

He should get even better with NFL coaching and has potential to be a long-term pro starter, projecting better than his former teammate Arik Armstead (17th overall pick to the 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft).

DE Emmanuel OGBAH

STRENGTHS: Ogbah already has the look of a NFL player with a well-proportioned build and the grown-man strength to bully blockers off the edge. A disruptive presence whether lining up on the right or left side, sporting an exciting combination of speed, length and power. He is a power defender who plays a physical brand of football, but also looks comfortable in space when asked to drop and cover.

WEAKNESSES: Still learning the nuances of the position. While highly thought of in the scouting community, Ogbah is battling the history of high-round picks from Oklahoma State who have failed to live up to expectations in the NFL.

Like a lot of people here they think that Buckner is better suited for the 3-4.
of course this is pre combine and pro day

don't think you're allowed to cut and paste entire articles or summaries. Excerpts only. Eric might have copyright problems otherwise.

I wouldn't take any of them at ten, although Jack and Buckner will probably be gone anyway. That leaves Lawson and Ogbah. Kevin Dodd may go higher than Lawson, although as you note, it's still very early. He's also a bit of a one year wonder. Ogbah is a good player, but not worthy of the #10 pick.
I could be wrong

these are excerpts...I also give credit to the source in which they are found CBS.
Lawson

Seems to be the most pro ready, by these accounts.
The thing about Jack
sjnyfan : 2/5/2016 11:27 am : link
is that LB might be his third best position. He has excellent athleticism and speed but it's way too easy to take him out of a play once a blocker gets their hands on him. UCLA had him at 245. There's no way he played at 245. More like 225. With that said, man can he cover. Forget TE's, he covers some WR's like a seasoned corner and he looked real good during his time at RB too.

3 positions? Besides RB or LB are you viewing him as a safety?

Yes. I think he would still make for a good LB which is a testament to his athleticism but depending on if he bulks up or not I think Jack would make an excellent safety.

I do and would appreciate seeing those as well. Thanks for the post!
how bout Jack next to Collins

!
We need a LB RB and S
MotownGIANTS : 2/5/2016 2:30 pm : link
So with that said ... get him.

he can be the 4th RB on the depth chart (3rd in a pinch) Big Nickle LB and starting FS.

This would me we play another person at FS when he plays Big Nickle

NO it is not madden however he is that type of player ... ala Steve Tasker-ish

How about Jack
est1986 : 2/5/2016 3:41 pm : link
Playing both ways for us next year. Two for one, hell of a pick Jerry.
Lawson
grizz299 : 2/5/2016 4:08 pm : link
Had trouble with the drug Ectasy. Used it before a big game too. I have read (??) that he doenn't handle the issue well in interviews. I don't think he's so good that you risk a no.10 on the guy. Wouldn't be surprised if the Giants don't even have him on their board.
Hesitate to say that because it's just bits and scrapes that I've read and I'm sure the Giants will do their due diligence.

Yea, where did you hear this information? Cant find anything about it. The guy can get to the passer and contain against the run. His weakness is lack of recoil against inside run? I think the Giants can live/work with that. I hope he is there at 10. I aint buying this extacy stuff. I know first round picks are huge investments, but kids taking extacy in college isn't exactly opioid addiction.

Are you thinking of Noah Spence?? I had not heard about this with Lawson but Spence had some failed drug tests for Ecstasy.
