WNS - Former WWE Superstar CM Punk was recently interviewed for Complex Magazine. He insulted the interviewer, refused to answer WWE questions, and left the interview. When he’s asked if he is anxious or intimidated to make the transition from professional wrestling to UFC he answers… “I get this question a lot, and it’s like you guys think I’m an idiot. Like I didn’t know MMA wasn’t pre-determined or something like that,” says Punk. “Have you ever tweeted at me, ‘Hey, do you know what you’re getting into?’” The interviewer, Kevin Wong Answers, “I never have.” CM “Okay. It sounds like you might have.” KW “I don’t mean to put you on the defensive…” CM “I’m not on the defensive. Your question is insulting. You’re asking me if I know the difference between the WWE and the UFC?” KW “That’s not what I’m asking.” CM “That’s exactly what you’re asking.” When he’s asked how he might respond to fans who question his motives for going into MMA, wonder if it is a publicity stunt, or wonder if he’s ever going to fight, he pushes back again. Now, he’s no longer smiling. “You say my fans say that? You’re mistaken. My fans do not say that. I wouldn’t say anything to them [my critics]. I don’t justify stupidity with an answer. I don’t give a shit what anybody thinks of me, whether I’m going to fight or not. I know what I’m going to do.” When CM Punk was asked questions about the WWE.. “I don’t feel like fielding questions about it [WWE],” says Punk. “I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and I’ve accomplished everything I was going to.” The interview was abruptly ended and Wong was eventually escorted away from CM Punk and told that he never wants to talk to him again. |
Ever since he left the WWE, it seems he's been too paranoid about the entire business. From my point of view, I think Punk has serious doubts about fighting MMA. If he's not successful right off the bat, that will hurt his chances there. Which is why we still haven't see him commit to his first fight yet.
CM actually stated that very same timeframe of 12-14 months in an interview with Opie and Jimmy on Sirrus radio. I think its smart on his part.
He's not Brock Lesnar.
The UFC is real big on fan/fighter interaction. They want the fighters to sign autographs. CM Punk has always been a dick to fans.

This. I hated his persona in the WWE. I thought he was an overrated wrestler to begin with. But he has always been a tool bag of the highest proportion.
He can train for another year or even two and the result won't change much IMO . At MW he'd be lucky to last a minute w even guys form lower tier promotions. Doubt he can cut to 170 and even if he could he's still going to get his ass kicked unless they find a total can willing to take a dive
CM Punk to face Mickey Gall as his first opponent ever at UFC 200.
