Yup. KP needs to take some shots, but he really gets a little overwhelmed trying to create them (esp vs a good defender like Gasol). They need to get him more catch and shoot plays as well as lobs to the rim (none of our Gs can do this well)
Then right there, even when we 'call' the lob, for some reason we run it from 3 ft inside the half court line. And last 10 games or so our guys are very half assed in play execution (like DWill stopping there, tho he was well defended)
That one (missed) call doesn't outweigh what an officiating snow job that game was. Wouldn't have been close if that wasn't literally one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen.
for that game at the IZOD Center. He was screaming travel when it happened haha. I didn't notice it live but on replay he definitely did. That was a fun night. I have an awesome picture with Stuart from that night. He could not have been nicer
Has a bad rap around the league it seems, and maybe it's deserved, but damnit if I don't love the guy.
He's responsible for some of my most enjoyable times as sports fan.
I'm a fan of Green the player, but genuinely curious..
why the bad wrap?
what good times? I clearly don't remember specific moments, tho I know he goes back to OKC w/ KD & RW
His 3 years at Georgetown coincided with my senior year and first 2 years out. When he and Hibbert took Georgetown to the final four, it was a really fun time in my life. Still young enough to party harder than anyone really should, and finally had some walking around money as a young professional. The sweet 16 / elite 8 that year were at the meadowlands, so I was able to attend both games.
STEEP weekend, but one of the most memorable of my life.
and am even less aware of JG's, tho I had known he was a GTown guy w/ Hibbert
That's awesome. Having never gone to a big sports school I was always a little jealous of hearing about the schools that did esp being a big football / bball fan. Then again I prolly never woulda graduated
should run some plays for KP where he is actually in a good position to score. What a fucking concept that would be! Maybe a couple of curl plays for a foul line jumper? How hard is this? They are wasting his ability while Seraphin and Afalo are throwing their forced crap up there. Phil must be able to see this, can't he?
but between the whole O faltering, KPs mediocre hands / ability to get position and a good Memphis D it's not easy either
OTOH Seraphin is bigger and much better at positioning, so it's easier for our mediocre passers to get him the ball, and he's big enough to get a shot off (esp vs MG & ZBo) tho never the #1 option and has no peripheral vision as implied b4. Teams leave KOQ open at 18' because he hasn't made it much tho not shy. Teams don't do that to KP and muscle him at every chance, like they should. It's not been easy to get him the ball this yr...
we're shooting 36%, but 12 Orebs and a few more 3s is the only reason we're close. A W would be an absolute steal, but I don't think that's where this is headed in spite of the close score
Then Calderon finally DOES make a sick lob and KP can't finish (finished the awkward layup off the mediocre pass earlier tho)
I hate to say it, but it sure seems that way. There is just too much one on one ball, and not enough ball movement with Carmelo. If he is shooting the ball well, then its fine-but if he's shooting poorly, the Knicks always lose playing that way. Need more ball movement.

What team are you watching? They are pretty close to pathetic without Carmelo.

0-6 w/o Melo coming into today iirc, the O looks AWFUL (as it has for 2-3 games and off for many more), Melo has 6A+ in his last 8 aside from the overall significant improvement in his overall versatility & team game (maybe best of his career)
When one team is allowed to be physical and the other can't, NBA officiating at its finest, Zach Randolph shoved porzingis on defense then shoved him on offense no call but of course let's call tricky tack shit on the knicks...
But Carmelo does tend to be a black hole on offense
He is still a fricken rookie, he is not a go to player, no matter how much you want to prop him up he is not that player yet...
There are people here that want him to get shots over Carmelo...
When he is the superstar of this team he will get those shots, and when he can create his own shot, until then he will get shots off pick and pops and stuff like that but they are not going to just give him the ball and say go get a shot...he doesn't have that game yet..
ala old Melo in key moments this yr while Melo has been much better
I will forever believe the 'end of clock iso' play, whether that's a 1-4 or post-iso is the laziest offensive strategy there is. We know ball movement gets better shots so we decide in advance to NOT pass? Obv different when it's a scoring / playmaking PG but for a team like us, or even in the mind of the Melo or AA scorer, why don't THEY realize there's a better shot FOR THEMSELVES off a PnR or some pick / movement?
It's a bball 101 playcall at every level but never made sense to me
That said IMO it wasn't an awful shot / relatively open, but not my fav strategy (adding the height adv Green has). FWIW postgamers are going back and forth too...
He just hit two big shots, are you really mad he took that shot or you mad it didn't go in?
Yes. He scored off set shots. That's his game. The same issues that he ran into Denver and Orlando is when he tries to be a pull up shooter. It's not his game.

Yes. He scored off set shots. That's his game. The same issues that he ran into Denver and Orlando is when he tries to be a pull up shooter. It's not his game.
And if it went in are you complaining about the shot?
Yes to some degree because it's not his game. If he makes it great but it isn't the best utilization of him is my point.
He absolutely hot some clutch shots down the end, while Kris had two big turnovers (alley-oop, Green steal) and has a tendency to make some bad passes from time-to-time.
What did people expect from this team? Now's not the time to lose the patience we've had no choice but to employ. i take over AA over JR every time.
is he's our best O-rebounder / 2nd chance putback guy. Part of the call does include crashing the boards there, so while you don't get HIM the shot, he's being allowed to attack in a way he's good at...
Not an excuse but I think people assume it's easy to just throw him the ball and let him go. Its not and it shows esp vs good Ds. He often loses it, gets rooted out, defender tips it (also our Gs fault). Happened a lot tonight aside from fumbling boards, some putbacks, even rim attacks off the dribble
He has to improve his hand strength a ton in the offseason, aside from just ball handling in traffic / post. He's great at it for 7'3" but not good enough for an NBA big yet
I didn't think it was a particularly good shot by AA,
But look at those final 2 plays. On both those plays KP has an infinitely better look than Afflalo, which means in his mind, he was taking those shots no matter what. Afflalo is a much better shooter when the play is designed for him, or the ball is being fed to him. He was willfully trying to create his own shot both times. I don't think the ball should be in his hands to CREATE that shot. Just my humble opinion.
When one team is allowed to be physical and the other can't, NBA officiating at its finest, Zach Randolph shoved porzingis on defense then shoved him on offense no call but of course let's call tricky tack shit on the knicks...
The three second call pissed me off the most. Two minutes left. Lopez had just stepped out as the whistle blew and it was a quick whistle anyway.
I have not followed his injuries this year but it seems from afar this is going to be an issue for the duration.
If so does that limit the attractiveness of playing with him?
They should really think about moving him if possible- not because he isn't good but because this may be the last window where he has value at his contract -
But if this was the playoffs he'd be playing (albeit possibly a bit diminished to to low grade injury). However, if you got a Westbrook or Durant in UFA after next season, Melo would be the #2, and therefore wouldnt have to work as hard.
It's a totally fair question though. Any UFA looking at coming here "to play with Melo" is going to be told in every other meeting that Melo is old and on the way down. IMO he has a lot of good basketball left in him. But no more scoring title.
The *potential* of Melo attracting a top flite FA (to which I really don't assign a very high probability) still outweighs what you'll haul in a trade.
The problem is that anyone who'd be interested is a contender or borderline contender. So you're talking about late picks and young-but-non-premier players.
RE: Is melo going to be 80 game healthy ever again?

I was thinking about this last night. I don't think it is out of the question, but they are going to have to start managing his minutes at some point.
The best comparison would be a guy like Dwyane Wade. Go back to last year and Wade didn't look like he was ever going to be even a 70 game per year guy. This year they have done a really good job of managing his minutes, he's a little over 30 minutes per night, and thus far he has only missed 2 games I believe. Who knows, there is a lot of season left, and he could still have stretch where he misses a bunch of games, but so far the lower minutes seem to be helping.
Keep in mind, Wade is a couple of years older than Melo so they don't need to go all the way down to 30 minutes per game with him, but they should start considering the idea of him not being a 35 minute per night guy anymore.
Our O just doesn't run much recently. Terrible 1 pass long balls too often, or iso even going with Lopez at times with no movement
as JC hits another 3...10 pts already (after two awful TOs, can't avoid a few head scratchers ea game)
Seraphin. If he doesn't pass in the first second, his head goes down and he's shooting. Doesn't matter what kind of shot it's going up
Seraphin. If he doesn't pass in the first second, his head goes down and he's shooting. Doesn't matter what kind of shot it's going up
Agree. I don't hate Seraphin, but he is not a good enough player to be a ball stopper in the offense
KOQ has 5 shots

They already have a point guard in the worst way.
I will say, on these rare nights where you see the peak of Calderon's game, he's quite a savvy player.
OTOH Seraphin is bigger and much better at positioning, so it's easier for our mediocre passers to get him the ball, and he's big enough to get a shot off (esp vs MG & ZBo) tho never the #1 option and has no peripheral vision as implied b4. I don't think I've seen more O & D 3s calls for any team. Only a handful in almost as many non-Knick games Ive seen if not more this yr
What team are you watching? They are pretty close to pathetic without Carmelo.
Aren't they like 0-8 this season without Melo?
Your post is ludicrous.
Maybe a little off? If that's what it seems like i'm not sure you know what you are watching.
Lopez was wide open for a dunk if they kept their head up dribbling up court
You have no idea what you are talking about sorry..
Knicks are over 500 with melo playing
Lot of people shitting their pants on these 2 free throws
He just hit two big shots, are you really mad he took that shot or you mad it didn't go in?
You can't force feed it to someone, afflalo got a great look he just missed it..

Porzingus should have taken he last shot

Good call. Add Zingis' missed oop dunk when JC finally made a solid lob. Much more than just the last shot
