to frame the problem as concussions. The problem is repeated brain trauma, of which concussion is but one portion. Would it be too cynical of me to think that this limited focus on concussions is deliberate?
BS. The NFL knows the issue isn't concussions. CTE comes from Â
the brain bumping against the inside of the skull from sudden stops (i.e. interior linemen simply blocking). Not contact to the head. Not concussions that show concussive symptoms. Rather it is thousands of the relatively minor impacts of the brain bumping the interior of the skull.
The NFL wants to pretend the problem is concussions because they can make rule changes that give the appearance they are addressing CTE. But they aren't. Not until you take interior linemen out of the game (i.e. one one thousand, two one thousand, etc). Player safety vs the future of a multi billion dollar business. Yea, as though I believe the NFL is ever going to place player safety above the very life blood of the NFL.
for the NFL, given the sneaky and unethical nature of how they handle concussions in policy and legal. At some point, to continue own they will need to use corruption to buy off politicians as the oncoming headlights of the train are approaching.

One of the stupidest posts ever. It is football. Either terminate the game or try to reduce the heavy head blows. There is absolutely no way to end the knocks and bumps that happen every play. These are huge people looking to get into physical confrontations. Not a game for the weak of heart.
So the choices are play the game or end the game. There are bad things that happen in most every job whether it is roofers on pitched roofs, lumberjacks on trees 100 feet over ground, fishermen on an unforgiving sea, military personnel, police and firemen. All jobs with a high risk of personal injury. You know the risks and you accept the risks.
The NFL has to try to mitigate the highest risks, but the game is the game.

The NFL is NOT trying to mitigate the highest risks. CTE is NOT caused by blows to the head. CTE is caused by REPETITIVE small concussive bumbs/shocks to the brain - similar to shaken baby syndrome.

I think they are limiting it to what they think they can control without changing the sport completely.
Giants co-owner John Mara: NFL ‘serious’ about concussions - ( New Window )

Getting serious about PED's
Creating a standard playing surface, preferably real grass
Size limitations - linemen can't exceed 300 pounds et.
Exploring safer equipment
* NFL is starting to take this seriously due to $ concerns
