Danny Kanell tweets stupidly

Alan in Toledo : 2/6/2016 11:43 am
Isn't he on radio weekday afternoons? How did he get such a prime gig and will he keep it?

Don't know why, and long before this

Toth029 : 2/6/2016 12:51 pm : link
Danny should ask Troy Aikman and Steve Young and see if they agree.
Two weeks ago he suggested the Broncos ...
Boy Cord : 2/6/2016 1:08 pm : link
... hit Brady late. He is the Sarah Palin of sports broadcasting. Kanell is a world-class douche. Sehorn should have fucked him up years ago. I will not listen to his radio show because he is awful. Not sure how he got the job. Horrible NFL QB as well. Will never forget the time in Atlanta he coughed tha ball up backed up at the Giants goal line only to have it gently fall into a defende's arms for a TD.

Wow

Danny Kanell is an asshole.

;)
His message isn't wrong
ThatLimerickGuy : 2/6/2016 2:26 pm : link
He just tweeted it like an asshole.

His point is that if every single person who ever played football since 1960 is now going to start yelling CTE! CTE! CTE! every time they are dealing with a neurological condition then it's going to really minimize the condition and scum over the guys who are really affected. It's becoming a money grab for a lot of people and that's not right.

News flash:

1) You played a game where you ran headfirst into other human beings wearing plastic armor. Did you really think there wasn't a possibility of some long term effects from repeated head trauma?

2) Long before football was even invented millions upon millions if not billions of people have suffered from neurological impairments as they got older. By screaming CTE! you are making a correlation without necessarily having a causation.

I always liked DK but you can't tweet truth in a PC world like that without getting backlash. He's better off just tweeting what he ate for lunch and other benign stuff.

Uh, no. Kanell has turned full on douche and sees concussions as some sort of liberal conspiracy in the "war on football" For example:

"The war on football is real. Not sure source but concussion alarmists are loving it. Liberal media loves it. Doesn't matter. It's real."

That is the correct prism through which to view his comments, not the fiction you wrote.

Like most ESPN personalities, Kanell has figured out that the best way to get noticed is to say things that are wrong, offensive, or just downright idiotic.
He wasn't hit Bc he sucked and didn't play

Who's using it as a money grab? Is the science not real? Do people frequently suffer degeneration at a young age without any other logical cause? I'm a big fan of Occam's razor. If I'm just not familiar with all of the people using it as a cash grab, then I'm more than willing to be educated, though that wouldn't change whether or not it's true.

Also, most people did not realize it could cause damage at a young age without clear as day concussions. I think (key word, since I'm not an expert) people thought they'd avoid it if they weren't getting serious injuries. Also, most people in the game since hard helmets and more pads were introduced are first coming into the public eye, since that made a lot of players start to lead with their heads more than before. Also, we had very little contact with former nflers prior to a decade ago, after they retired. We are much more in touch with celebrities than before.

I love football but I'm not sure young players are taught how to safely play from high school and younger age.

Also, as an instructor, I tell my students that if you say something like an asshole, like DK did, you don't earn the right to listened to. DK sounds like a fucking moron. The "point" he is trying to make/implying is that CTE is bullshit, which all signs suggest it isn't. So what is the point of that? Attention? I'm all for making jokes about sensitive topics, but this wasn't a joke.

The bottom line is that the nfl was shitting themselves when that movie came out and the studio had to pretty much run everything through their offices before releasing it. CTE is real, to mock it is moronic and using the same debating skills that truthers and kids use in the school yard. I hope football goes on forever, because I love it. But education and modification can coexist with the future of the NFL and hopefully it doesn't coexist with morons like DK.

Jesse I respect your opinion but let me elaborate. Why do you think every time an nfl player dies young now the first thing you read is that is has to be CTE? What do you think is coming?

For example, look at Tyler Sash. Ive said this before but I actually had the chance to know the guy peripherally. By all accounts when he was a Giant he was a nice guy. He left football and by all accounts his life fell apart. His girlfriend dumped him, he had a failed spice venture and he went from someone who was a big shot since he was probably 13 years old to just another 20 something year old dude from Iowa. He couldn't handle that and unfortunately took his own life. Why do we assume that he was any different than the hundreds of people every day who commit suicide after failed relationships and investments? Why do we AUTOMATICALLY jump to say that is must have been from football?

The reason is because it sets up litigation. That's where the money grab is. What do you think every broke 29 year old who played two years in the NFL is going to say now. I can't work because of CTE. NFL should have told me that I could get lifelong headaches by using my body as a spear as a profession for 3 years.

It's not about a war on football. In 10 years we are all going to be watching 2 hand touch.

It's about personal accountability and taking responsibility for your life choices. These.guys aren't slave gladiators forced to battle or be killed.

I'm thinking this is the type of thing that DK is trying to say.
I actually

When we become so emotionally charged
joeinpa : 2/7/2016 8:58 am : link
About any issue in a manner that causes us to lose any objectivitity, we often end up with a myopic view that prevents us from learning about the issue. This politically correct outrage keeps us shredded in ignorance.

We might not like the way Kannel s message came across but that does not mean there is no merit in the thinking that motivated said message.
