FA Target - Tahir Whitehead

CMicks3110 : 2/7/2016 12:05 pm
Newark NJ Native; PFF's new site ranked him the 14th LB in 2015, ahead of Bruce Irvin, Ray Maualaga, Bernadick McKinney, Shaq Thompson, Jordan Hicks. Young guy, doesn't turn 26 until april. Timed well at the combine (4.65 40, 37 VJ, 4.17 SS) . Supposedly good in coverage. Nephew of former Saints DE Willie Whitehead. I think he could be a very good under the radar addition.
What's his injury history?

That's the first question I have.
Missed two games his rookie year

could be healthy scratches, not a game in the last 3 years.

We stop with the Bruce Irvin stuff? He isn't a starting DE and the Giants already have a rush LB in Kennard right now. More important things to use money on.

Whitehead would be an infinitely better signing, for instance. I reckon the LB's remain largely the same, however. Although I see them *gasp* drafting one.
Given that Kennard had zero sacks

in nine games played (and was injured for the other seven) he is maybe not a "rush LB" to hang a hat on.

I'm not saying he's the cream of the crop, but I'm looking at this realistically. Giants need two CB's, a starting FS, a MLB, another starting DT, and two starting DE's. Irvin is not a starting DE and they have a similar player in Kennard who is four years younger (Irvin will be 29 next season). I like Kennard's potential, the only Giants LB I have that for, and I don't see Giants giving up on him early.

If we can count on Kennard to be healthy, he could easily move to middle linebacker. I'm not saying that we should go after Irvin but I am saying that our defense needs a talent up grade and Irvin has a lot different skill set than Kennard.

Am I missing something?

Who stated that we should get Bruce Irvin?

Agree Tahir, who's really a blown up strong safety, would be an instant upgrade in pass coverage at the Will over JT Thomas who just blows. Neither has shown very strong against the run but Tahir held his own last year when the Lions finally became smart enough to make him the full time starter. Who would you try to get for the Mike though?
Nice thread, Micks

Love hearing about some of the less well-known options.

Sounds like this one could make some sense.
