Entire game can be reduced to Jerricho Cotchery's play

jawebb20 : 2/7/2016 11:08 pm
That play permanently altered the game.

I was shocked it was a non-catch because the ball IS allowed to touch the ground, but the ground cannot aid you in gaining possession.

It gave DEN a 2 score lead and allowed them to protect Manning even more and sapped a lot/any momentum out of CAR at the time.
when ball hit the ground
bc4life : 2/7/2016 11:09 pm : link
it moved around
yeaaaaa
GMenLTS : 2/7/2016 11:13 pm : link
no.

Not even remotely. Did you miss the rest of the game?
No it can't
Cruzin : 2/7/2016 11:15 pm : link

But it was a worthwhile challenge, could have gone either way.
seems like the nose of the ball very possible touched the ground
Stu11 : 2/7/2016 11:20 pm : link
and it moved a lot. So if it was ruled no catch on the field, it was not going to be overturned.
Is this the midfield one early in the game?
schabadoo : 2/7/2016 11:21 pm : link
What difference would it have made? Carolina coughed the ball up plenty.

That this bum is still in the league is amazing. Curious how Cam will do when their #1 WR comes back next year.
Um, the way the Broncos defense was playing
mfsd : 2/7/2016 11:22 pm : link
I doubt that being called the other way would have changed the outcome much

Looked like Cotchery went right over to Rivera and Rivera tossed the red flag on Cotchery's word. After the replay, I wasn't convinced either way but the guest referee and Simms both said it never touched ( although Simms described several other plays in his own words that never actually happened like he said). I thought it was worth a shot.
Ball moved when it hit the ground or as a result of hitting ground

Pretty clearly not a catch under the rules.

Had to stick with the call on the field. No way something that close without conclusive evidence can be overturned.

Didn't Denver score a TD the next play on the fumble recovery in the end zone? Had that been a catch, I doubt the TD happens.

But you never know. Von Miller may have ripped Cam's arm off and carried the ball into the end zone in his mouth the play after a completed pass.

really came down to the incredible play by I believe #58 on the Broncos, recovering the fumble after TJ Ward fumbled away his interception. 3 Panther players right there and he came out of no where to grab it
How did the NFL ever get by for 70 years
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 2/8/2016 1:33 am : link
without having to spend a minute reviewing every other completed pass in super slow motion to see if it wasn't really a completion?
Talib's lucky the game didn't come down
Upstate_Giants_fan : 2/8/2016 6:00 am : link
to his stupid penalty.
If evidence is indesputable they will overturn it
Blue21 : 2/8/2016 6:23 am : link
otherwise the play remains as called on the field. Evidence wasn't indisputable.
Odell can secure a ball with his pinky
UberAlias : 2/8/2016 7:53 am : link
Better than Cotchery secured that. I can't see why so many people want to see that as a catch. You expect NFL receivers to at least have some kind of control over the ball to rule it a catch. And it looked to me like it probably did touch the ground. So basically it touches the ground and is not secured, but we see a catch? I realize the rules are confusing as hell, but I expect NFL receivers to be held to a slightly higher standard than kids in the back yard.
Good teams overcome
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 2/8/2016 8:10 am : link
an incompletion in the first quarter. Nothing says that Cam had to give up the strip sack fumble right after that. Not to count the other three turnovers. To say the game came down to that call is just wrong.
Regarding the incompletion
feelflows : 2/8/2016 8:23 am : link
We talk about "what is a catch" with these crazy rules. I must be missing something here, because this one is cut and dry.

The nose of the ball touches the ground causing the receiver to lose control.

It doesn't matter what happens after that. If he didn't have possession before the ball hit the ground, it is an incomplete pass.

That being said, the analysts are saying it didn't hit the ground. I am obviously either seeing what I want to see, or I have terrible sight.
Shitty Receivers

That ball should have been caught. Many catchable balls were dropped last night. Kind of shocking that a defensive player won MVP on a night with 2 'elite' QB's starting.

Peyton's not an "elite" QB at this point
giants#1 : 2/8/2016 8:54 am : link
And Von Miller was all of the field for Denver's D.

If you wanna pinpoint a play that really was gamechanging, this was definitely one of them.

Ward really fucked that play up on so many levels
The ball is not allowed to touch the ground
jeff57 : 2/8/2016 11:00 am : link
if you don't have possession.
Ward's Int was a complete debacle
AP in Halfmoon : 2/8/2016 11:01 am : link
he was very lucky it was recovered. He will cringe when he sees that on tape.
Broncos wanted it much more than the Panthers
JonC : 2/8/2016 1:11 pm : link
They were ready to play from the opening kickoff, played with better focus and composure, made fewer mistakes, etc.

Panthers' relative youth was too much to overcome.

Agree 100%
Nose of the football touched the ground
JonC : 2/8/2016 4:35 pm : link
and he lost control of it immediately after, it's a no catch. The ball can't move once it touches the ground.
