Kony Ealy

glowrider : 2/8/2016 1:24 am
3 sacks, int, fumble recovery, 2 qb hits. He was a real problem out there for Denver. Kid is going to be good for a while. Carolina feels like a Seattle in the making with the young talent they've got. He impressed.

one point in the game - when the game was still in doubt - I said he was the MVP on the field.
He could have been a viable mvp candidate

If Carolina won. He showed up big, certainly had the best individual performance on their team.
agree..

great young talent..
Another Reese whiff.
BlueGuy : 2/8/2016 2:54 am : link
Could've had him in the second. We took Richburg. Another undersized center instead of Stork in the 4th (Pats) or Martin in the third (49ers).

Whiffed on Preston Smith too who is going to be a beast in this league for a long time. Imagine Smith and Ealy as our bookends? Shi-at.

Agree, especially on Preston Smith who I think is going to be special. Makes you wonder how Reese still has a job..

Who will be better long term? My money was on Ealy. All day. The real NFL player on that Missou team. The only reason Michael Sam was even relevant. He ate double teams and was still productive leaving Sam in consistent one on ones where all he did was beat inferior tackle with 45 degree speed rushes for his sacks.

I'm not saying Richburg is a whiff. I'm saying we could have had a center further down who played against better talent and a STUD DE for a long time to come. I'm on record with this sice before the 2014 draft.
I'll take Richburg
Headhunter : 2/8/2016 6:35 am : link
without 1 iota of buyers remorse. Centers aren't "sexy" picks they just stabilize perhaps the most important unit on the field.
future center was a whiff?
bc4life : 2/8/2016 6:47 am : link
Ealy had a great game. But Richburg will be abchoring our O-Line at a high level for years to come. Both teams got very players, IMO.
He should have been flagged

Love Richburg but multiple centers were still on the board while players like Kory were there. Wouldn't hurt so much if the picks after Round 2 did anything.
Richburg

Was possibly the best center in football this season. And there are clowns that still aren't happy. Reese whiffed on the Richburg pick? Way to embarrass yourself, clown shoes.

When you draft a player (in the 2nd round no less) who is considered a borderline All Pro in just his 2nd season, you hit a HR. And it's not just Giants fans that feel that way about Richburg. PFF had him as one of their top 2-3 centers in ALL of the NFL.

Ealy was awesome last night and could turn into a probowl DE, but he had 5 sacks on the season, so let's keep things in a little perspective.

I know exactly who these players are
BigBlueShock : 2/8/2016 8:31 am : link
And in case you didn't know, Stork missed the first 7 games this season with a concussion and neck injuries. I'd love to hear your opinion had the Giants drafted him and he had to go on short term IR in his second season while the Patriots drafted Richburg and he graded out as a top 3 center in football.

And Ealy had 5 sacks this season. I think he will be a good one, but let's not get carried away here. He had a great game. Good for him. He's been far from dominant in his short career, otherwise.

And again, we can play this game with any player in the NFL. Let's just look for anyone that has a good game and find a way to blame Reese for "whiffing", even if it means accusing him of whiffing on possibly the best center in the game. What's next? When some random scrub WR that was drafted in the 6th round last year has a good game next year, will we kill Reese for whiffing on Beckham, since he could have waited until round 6 to find a WR? It's stupid thinking and worse analysis.
re: Car vs Sea comp
giants#1 : 2/8/2016 8:32 am : link
One HUGE difference is that Seattle had Russell Wilson on a ridiculously cheap (3rd round) rookie contract contract, which allowed them to lock up most of the FAs they had over the next few seasons (post-SB win). Newton is earning ~$20M per, though the Panthers probably saved a few million there by re-signing him last June before his "breakout" season.

Panthers should be in good shape in 2016 with Norman as the only "big" FA they have.
Seems like

There are plenty of young players contributing nicely for these teams. Mostly later round picks as well. I find myself asking how come we don't have a player like that guy, etc.

Show me proof. I don't want your amateur guessing game, I want prof that Richburg would have been around in round 3. Because I think your full of shit and there was no chance of him lasting that long. Not sure how fans always say this when they have no clue whatsoever.

That's more than Strahan and Tuck had while Osi had 7 his 2nd season. The perspective isn't against Richburg but recognizing how weak the roster is. Would the Giants roster be better with a Ealy and Stork or just a Richburg? Would be nice if this front office could get some contribution from players after Round 2. The roster is weak.

Reese has a constructed a turd of a team outside of OBJ and a couple of others. He's a bad GM. Face it. Stop slurping his sack. Its pathetic. Your showing your true colors. Rainbow, that is.

Dallas could have picked Fredrick in the second or third but chose him 1st round. He solidified their OLine. Not sexy but helps immensely.

He's saying they whiffed on Ealy not Richburg people. He's only saying the Giants have whiffed on multiple defensive players and still could have landed a player like Stork for center.
The dropoff from Richburg to the next best center
widmerseyebrow : 2/8/2016 10:10 am : link
isn't nearly as great as any of our following picks that year and a starting a defensive end. It's a valid point.

I think you could take it a step further and say it's less than ideal that we're forced to spend multiple premium picks along the offensive line just to get viable starters. Unfortunately that's the only way this current front office has been able to produce decent starters lately.

Explain to me and the NFL how E.J. Gaines, the other real player on that team, dropped to the 6th Round last year? I know he went on IR this year yet was practically the rookie of the year. He was great every game I saw him play. How does he slip?

Strip-Sack : 2/8/2016 11:29 am : link
Ridiculous hindsight analysis....change one pick and the rest fall differently...absolutely no way to say that a team should have waited until a later round to draft a particular player and Richburg was a great pick period.

nearly as good as some of you are making him out to be. BUT, he was a big upgrade over Baas.
He was a reactive pick. Would I rather have a stud DE? YEP. Do I get why Reese reached on Richburg a little? YEP. Is it forgivable? Up to you.

With the play on 4th down. He busted in and forced the holding call. Without it Denver has first and goal.

Glover : 2/8/2016 2:55 pm : link
The Giants need a guy like him. And I would be thrilled if they could get a guy like that with the #10 pick. Lawson or Ogbah could be that good. I remember being annoyed when he was projected to be drafted by the Giants at 12. I wanted Donald there, like many others did. I never thought Ealy was all that because when I watched Missouri games/tape it seemed like Michael Sam had almost as much impact as he did.
Anyway, The Giants need a guy just like that. Hopefully they get him.
Let's also not forget
