FYI...
Ex-Giants coach Tom Coughlin on retirement: 'I don't like that word' - ( New Window )
He's a very young 70
AP in Halfmoon : 2/8/2016 10:16 am : link
I hope he finds something rewarding. It would be great if he landed another HC gig but that seems unlikely.
feel for his wife ! may be harder on her !

I was assured that he'd have another head coaching job within 15 minutes of his dismissal.

is an all time Giant. The end of his tenure was not good, but at least for me, it does not tarnish his legacy.

However, as a fan who was never on the ban wagon to get rid of him, the first 3 times they wanted him fired, I was ok with him going this time.
Hang it up Tom

The people who think the man walks on water said he'd have his pick of jobs, ignoring all possible evidence that a)his recent track record was not good b)he would have been the oldest new hire at HC in NFL history. But, since admitting that he's not infallible goes against their religion, they insisted otherwise to the bitter end, and deserve to be poked for it.
there's like 5 guys on this site that think he walks on water
GMenLTS : 2/8/2016 10:35 am : link
the rest of us just respect a great man and great coach would like to hope that fans that got to experience some pretty amazing SB runs would show the man a tad bit more fucking respect than these bullshit swipes at him on any thread discussing him.

Just STFU.

This is how I've felt.
He's going to the Hall of Fame. Nothing any knucklehead here says

without someone raging on about how we fired the wrong guy, and how we're going to regret losing Coughlin, the glue who's held together the whole operation until now.

Overlooking, of course, that the whole operation has been coming apart at the seams for a few years now. And you can't have an objective conversation about anything coaching related that doesn't devolve into shots at Reese to protect Coughlin.
I think he could walk on water if he chose to
AP in Halfmoon : 2/8/2016 11:04 am : link
I also think it was time for a new voice.
And if I was an owner
AP in Halfmoon : 2/8/2016 11:05 am : link
he would be my first choice for the HC position.
You're absolutely right, he is going to the hall of the fame
GMenLTS : 2/8/2016 11:06 am : link
so maybe, just maybe, some giants fans specifically should quit taking potshots at him every time they have a chance because they perceive other fans treat him as an infallible god.

People got their wish for change. Now they should shut the fuck up about it and appreciate his tenure for what it was.

It's not difficult. Just takes a bit of class and appreciation.

It goes both ways and you're delusional if you can't see that.
It really is ridiculous at this point.

It's over, and it should be. The people who thought he should coach until the end of time were insane, though.

He did- Eagles. He turned it down. Niners were also in play until he told them he wasn't interested.

I look forward to the playoffs next season with this team since you guaranteed that this was a playoff team but for the senile old man at the helm. Oh wait, I forgot that you and your confederacy of dunces have now discovered the lack of talent on the team. But, in Reese and Fredo you trust.

I know what you are saying. But, it also isn't like there was no interest. There was some strong interest from 2 franchises.

Sort of like those who said Fassel would never get another head coaching job. They were right but he came damn close to getting the Redskins job.

Apparently two teams did want him or at least were strongly considering them, but he withdrew his name from consideration. So that renders your argument pretty moot.

Secondly, it's not like he's doing a TV tour to tell people he's not retired. He was on Fox and Friends to promote the Jay Fund.
oh, there was "strong interest" from the Niners?

Look, I get that you have this silly grudge that forced you to walk into this thread and start bashing Coughlin three posts in, and maybe there wasn't "strong" interest from the 49ers (though some reports did indicate that). However, the point is that for everybody saying Coughlin had no chance at getting another job, he was on the radar for two teams and chose to pull his name out of the running. It's not like he's so washed up that nobody wants him.

For all your bitching about the "cult of TC," you're the one who came in and started shitting on him three posts in over what was a throwaway line in an interview that was about helping families who have a kid with cancer.

The TC ball-sucking brigade keeps saying this but it is complete horseshit.

We don't know that Philly would have hired him. All we know is that he interviewed and then removed his name from consideration, that's all we know. It is just as likely that they were simply picking his brain.

Stop saying TC to Philly was a given because it wasn't.

If we actually do make the playoffs, don't be wearing blue. You were always just a TC fan as opposed to a Giants fan, at least that's what you have conducted yourself as over the past few months.

Do you feel the same about Reese?

That's the point. We are supposed to give TC all the credit and admiration for success and give none to Reese. Yet somehow TC is magically absolved of any blame for recent failures despite questionable player development. We are expected to believe that is all Reese's fault.

It is a double standard.
you guys gotta learn to separate geno's post from most reasonable
GMenLTS : 2/8/2016 3:20 pm : link
people.

He cannot detach his mouth from TC's ballsack. We all know this. It's a fact, has been for years.

But none of that changes the fact that you guys have been on any thread concerning TC kicking the man repeatedly since he's been gone.

I will say it one last time.

He's gone. You got your wish. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. And. Show. Some. Respect.

It's that simple. No one is asking you to gargle his nuts like gene does. No one. Just to shut the fuck up and stop taking shots at him whenever you get a chance. It's pathetic and no better than a common troll.
And yes, some idiots are continuing to slam reese in the same

disrespectful manner that you guys keep slamming TC.

Guess what? Both groups look pathetic.

Why the hell
ThatLimerickGuy : 2/8/2016 4:03 pm : link
would people today, on February 8, 2016 hate Tom Coughlin?

He's not the coach anymore so you can't complain about that.

He won TWO FUCKING SUPER BOWLS in 11 years! He never disparaged or embarrassed the franchise. That's like 18% of every year he coached the Giants they won a Super Bowl.

The dude should be revered by every single person on here for what he did for us.

Do people think that we would have won the Super Bowl this year with the talent we had if he was fired last year?

I get the feeling it's kind of like politics. You lobbied so hard for removal of a candidate that it almost becomes part of your daily routine. It's creepy and weird.

Now that it's over- look back at Tom Coughlin's career as NYG Head Coach. It's not just impressive it's LEGENDARY in the context of the history of the NFL.

And so what if people want to support a man who brought a sense of respect, decency and compassion to the franchise that we all root for. Why would you try to disparage them as well?

I can usually at least see both sides of an argument whether I agree with one or the other, but this one boggles my mind. People who don't like Tom Coughlin today are either entitled snobs who don't understand how the NFL works or they are just assholes.
TC > Reese, tho.
