Aquib Talib near meltdown, idiocy? Or Carolina antics?

chopperhatch : 2/8/2016 1:20 pm
When he flipped out on the Carolina player and removed his helmet. It would've been like 4th and 17 and instead got unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting) and gifted Carolina with a first down. The way he reacted, it seemed as though he boiled over...a lot like what happened to ODB. He also had some numb skull penalties throughout the game. Anybody else wonder if those same Carolina antics were employed and threw him off his game?
he's always been pretty stupid in terms of emotional intelligence

None of that is anything new for Talib.

Not at all. Not when Talib has been the same dumb asshole on the field before.
nothing new for talib
GMenLTS : 2/8/2016 1:22 pm : link
but both guys should have been flagged there.

Talib's facemask was infinitely more violent and scummy
you know, I wondered about that face mask
Greg from LI : 2/8/2016 1:25 pm : link
Is there any way that a particularly egregious face mask like that could be more than just one 15 yard penalty? I'm thinking of something like a double minor in hockey - one for the face mask, one for unnecessary roughness. I don't think I've ever seen a player simply toss a guy around by the face mask quite like that.
He's always had the character questions

going back to college, and during his pro career they continued. His BBI supporters would've chosen to look past them, and last night he demonstrated why it's a risk to simply discard the indicators.

There was a play that happened
Bleedin Blue : 2/8/2016 1:32 pm : link
Right in front of a ref, where the Broncos tackled Newton on the sideline, and a Panther player from the bench came over and shoved the Bronco down and was taunting him with no call made!
I just shook my head thinking here we go again!

It was Ealy and it was badly missed PF all things considered.
talib breakdown to it and acted foolishly upon it

There's trash talking and words said in every game, but I believe carolina made an art of it to entice or getting to opting players. Something they say (whether very personal or what) to opposing players sets them off to lose their composure. Look at the obj game. Tactic that is very bush league imho

Toss the player out of the game?

That facemask could've really hurt that guy, don't like seeing shit like that.

agree. that was dangerous
said that too during the game

worst facemask I've ever seen. Could have broke his neck on that play.

B.S. play on Talib!! ejection is the way you handle that. He was trying to hurt the player,.. at that spot on the field it turned out to be a 2 or 3 yard penalty.
Who saw Ron Rivera mouth the words
JohnB : 2/8/2016 1:48 pm : link
"that's bullshit" on that face mask play? And I agree with him.
Unfortunately, the way the rules are written,
MOOPS : 2/8/2016 1:51 pm : link
the facemask was a smart play though way too much force used).
It prevented a score and actually only resulted in a one yard penalty.
as we've seen, refs are generally pretty reluctant to eject players

They cut to a crowd shot, I assume because Talib said something stupid. He's a moron.
I thought the "taunting" call was a bad call personally
MetsAreBack : 2/8/2016 2:31 pm : link
he was on Denver's sidelines so its not a penalty for removing your helmet. Second, he wasnt taunting or jawing any more than the Carolina guy was with him.

Yeah, agreed on the facemask penalty - he got off easy for that.

I did appreciate him wiping out ... twice... on his way to the postgame interview.
That should not have been a penalty
Glover : 2/8/2016 2:32 pm : link
They were jawing face to face and he was on his own sideline when he took his helmet off. I think the ref threw the flag because he wanted to nip any kind of extracurricular activity in the bud and send a message. It absolutely did not need to be called. He was on his own sideline when he took his helmet off. Bullshit call. Don't kill Talib. Non-story.
FYI,
GiantFilthy : 2/8/2016 2:37 pm : link
Talib has admitted that that facemask penalty was on purpose.
Didn't he have boneheaded penalties
ZogZerg : 2/8/2016 2:46 pm : link
against NE as well?
I don't think Carolina had anything to do with it.

Indeed. But he is a very good player and last night it was as if he channeled Frank Walker. It just like too extreme a swing to chalk it just up to "stupidity."

Watching in depth highlights now and apparently he may have jumped way early on the missed FG.
I thought I saw
BobOnLI : 2/8/2016 3:42 pm : link
the Carolina player poke his finger toward Talib's eye early in the confrontation on the sideline bringing on his reaction. If someone did that to me I would go ballistic. My guess is that getting him riled up and off his game was pre-planned by the Panthers. It worked really well with OBJ.

Had they flagged both guys, I'd have been fine with it.

But to only flag Talib was bull. Especially because as you said, he wasn't on the field of play and he was on his own sideline when he took off his helmet.

Talib is a proven idiot, last night it emerged on the biggest stage.

I don't disagree his first taunting penalty was lame, at best, but dumb players tend to attract dumb calls and extra scrutiny.
I thought he was
Kuhn and Friends : 2/8/2016 4:09 pm : link
going to single-handedly lose the game for them. It was eerily reminiscent of the meltdown OBJ had against them on the other side of the ball, but then again Talib has a notable history of it whereas Beckham didn't really (until then).
He was playing for the good guys -
section125 : 2/8/2016 4:11 pm : link
non-story. had he been playing for the bad guys then he's a rotten scum suckin dog.

I agree the sideline penalty was BS.
His play is being over scrutinized
AP in Halfmoon : 2/8/2016 4:38 pm : link
other than the taunting penalty. That could have been a huge mistake. I think you guys are massively overreacting. He was pumped up and played very well.
Nothing wrong with Talib..
prdave73 : 2/8/2016 6:22 pm : link
Would take him in a heartbeat over most of our guys that's for sure..

I have to disagree with this. Cam was fighting for yards and hit inbounds and was hit hard. Is the player supposed to stop mid tackle because they crossed the boundry?? He was already taking him to the ground. If Cam didnt want to get hit, he should have stepped out of bounds 1/2 a yard earlier. He was fighting for yards. I thought it was a great no call.

No problem with Ealy sticking up for his QB either. Anytime my QB is hit hard I want guys coming to his defense. But Cam is not entitled to extra protection outside the pocket. He was a runner and I love that they didn't throw a Flag there for a hard hit when contact was initiated between the lines.

Lol, Wut? I guess you missed the horrendous facemask that even he said he "meant" to do? I guess you missed the offsides on the extra point? I guess you missed the MISSED offsides on the panthers missed FG. he also didn't look great in coverage. He most certainly didn't play well, let alone VERY well.
Sounds like Talib is going to be suspended for the facemask

Lol, the facemask was ugly but had no impact on the game. The offsides were inconsequential. I'm not sure what you're basing the poor coverage remark on. All CBs give up some catches. I'll stand by my comments.
Denver players are
bc4life : 2/10/2016 5:37 am : link
not above their own dirty tactics. Late hits, head hunting - don't know they are any better than Panthers in this regard.
You raise a good point.
Ira : 2/10/2016 6:02 am : link
Do the Panthers look at the most vulnerable players of a team that they're going to face and try to get in their heads?
