The reason Cam Newton walked out on the press conference

Most figured it was just Newton in a bad mood.

But now we know the real reason why Cam bailed: He heard Denver's Chris Harris explain close by that their gameplan was to make Carolina prove it could throw the football (which obviously the Panthers did not do well on Sunday).

Here's what Harris said: "Load the box, force y'all to throw the ball. Can you throw the football? That was the gameplan."

Now watch this video of Cam listening to Harris' words before walking off.

It doesn't excuse his behavior but puts it in a slightly different light.

but man, some of you are REALLY ecstatic about getting a chance to bury the dude. It's like the opposite of when Dave Chappelle said black people celebrated the OJ trial too hard.

who is made that he couldn't celebrate every 1st down last night like the clown that he is. So happy the right team and QB won.

Enough about Cam......

It has all been settled. He is overrated. He is a coward. He is a piece of shit. There is no doubt about it!!!!!

Icon. Entertainer. Loser. Coward. Demon.

The truth hurts. If he took the loss like a man in the post game press conference; that would be respectable for sure. But he didn't. *shrug*
keep in mind

what many players are giving you in that situation is an act, somewhat of a false front of graciousness.

IMO, his reaction should have been better, but the reaction to his reaction is way over the top. People burying guy who by most reports is great off the field based on 30 seconds of his life and on the field celebrations just seems excessive to the point of silliness.

Yeah, it's immature and he could have handled it a lot better, and I am sure he will going forward.

But I don't know how you sit and watch a replay of that fumble with your teammates, as they dive after their last chance to try and win the Super Bowl, on record with how your leg might get contorted if you lent a hand. That's pretty fucking awful.

And so odd - Cam sticks his head in people's chests, his own head into the end zone, he's a fearless runner - I just think he checked out after the beating he had taken.

I was actually willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that the reason he didn't dive into the pile was because perhaps he was waiting to see what the ball was going to do. Often, players will all dive into a pile, and the ball will squirt out and a free player can scoop it up.

Turns out he just didn't want to get hurt.

Same. I assumed he froze or there was some other reason he didn't do it because he has sacrificed his body (sacrificed his head a few times) but he flat out said he didn't want to get hurt.

I'd be way more concerned with this:

Quote:

"I didn’t dive on one fumble because the way my leg was (positioned)," Newton told reporters in Charlotte on Tuesday. "It could have been contorted in a way. You say my effort? I didn’t dive down. I fumbled - that’s fine. That’s fine. We didn’t lose the game because of that fumble.”

I'm sure Thomas Davis, among others on the Panthers, appreciate Cam's decision to not risk injury on the deciding play of the Super Bowl.

That quote contrasted to Davis playing through injury - that should sum it up for anyone defending Newton.
'We didn't lose the game because of the fumble'
GMenLTS : 2/10/2016 9:24 am : link
heh, maybe not directly lost it but it sure as shit played a big role. In fact Cam, you had two fumbles that directly led to 14 points.

oops
Could you imagine the shit storm if this was Eli?
montanagiant : 2/10/2016 10:47 am : link
There was a bunch of crap over him not smiling enough in a picture taken with 3 mins left in the game. The media slam on him if he had pussified on a fumble recovery, then stormed out of a PC while admitting the next day that he did so out of fear of getting hurt would be unbelievable and make the storm Cam is dealing with pale in comparison.

He admitted to not going for the ball
madgiantscow009 : 2/10/2016 2:24 pm : link
to prevent the chance of injury. I am surprised he admitted it, so that's a positive in a way.
Here's the thing...

TV angles can be deceiving. My first impression was that he was right over the football and it's not easy for a 6'5" individual to "dive" directly down. It places your body in an awkward very vulnerable position compared with players diving "horizontally" for the ball.

But other angles made it look not as problematic for him, so I don't know. If you freeze the below link at the one second mark it definitely looks like nobody has a better shot at the ball than Newton

When I was watching it live I thought he was in an awkward angle to actually "dive" for it. Watching the replay it looks like he instinctively moves to go recover the football as if unaware that there were other players diving for it, and then reacts at the last minute when he sees them around his knees. Regardless, Cam Newton has sacrificed his body more than any other QB this season - it's a silly argument to make that he's not willing to take a hit to help his team.

Yeah, why would any player want to actually go for the ball in the biggest game of the year. This is exactly what you want your QB to do, bail out when there is still a chance to win the game right???
