Bring Schwartz back. Only so many holes are gettijg fixed this off season. You have to prioritize. Keeping a guy like Schwartz sure beats having Merriweather as your starting safety, Wynn as your best defensive end, Unga as a starting LB, DRC as the only worthwhile CB on the team etc. etc.
Obviously, it is not ideal to bring him back, but you need to prioritze the positions you can fill in one off season and fill the others in cheaply, typically by using guys you already have.
not sure I'd bring Schwartz back, but I think the Giants will. I'd probably not bring back Jerry, Newhouse, Gettis, or Mosley. As somebody said, the Giants can only cut so many players because of all of our holes.
But the NYG cannot replace everyone in one offseason. I'm no Schwartz fan in the least but there are bigger fish to fry first before replacing him, namely rebuilding one of the worst defenses in the annals of NFL history.
but he's 32 now. Plus, I have a feeling Schwartz is coming back.
Ugh, I hope you are wrong. I am not one of those people that wants to get rid of Beatty or Cruz because they are making a decent amount of money but I do want to get rid of Schwartz. Not only has he not been healthy but he has flat out sucked when he has played.
made NO a lock for the best interior OL in the League for a number of years in the mid-aughts.
They had a good thing going for awhile. With Brees' quick release and great pocket presence, the amount of lateral misdirection in the offense, and a rock-solid interior, they could get away with having some pretty lousy OTs. (Like, say, some guy named Charles Brown.) It was more important to have excellence at G-C-G to clear defenders out of throwing lanes so Drew could see and get the ball past the line.

We need to see if Schwartz can get healthy and I can definitely seeing cutting him but in general, why are so many people quick to get rid of this offensive line who are at least cost controlled.
A line of Beatty, Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz and Flowers (hopefully with Flowers staying at left tackle) is pretty solid.
You could do a LOT worse than having Jerry and Newhouse as backups. Hart is the guy who would hopefully push Jerry/Newhouse and even Schwartz and did show some promise.
That isn't a bad top 8.
As others said, we have lots of other holes to fill.
odds are against Schwartz coming back

especially as a starter. all we know is that he is 32 years old, still wants to play, after two injury plagued seasons
Well, you don't pay guys 4M to be backups.....
When we signed him, he had only started 7 games, in the previous 3 seasons....he has missed 19 games the last two seasons with the Giants....
And his play when he has started, is average at best....if there is a guard out there, you grab him....some want Hart....he is backup material at best....
and even played well at ORT. I am optomistic about the o line next year and agree we put finite resources into the Defense....Need 1 safety , 2 cb's, 1 mlb'er, 1 DT, 2 De's
man that's six players to have a decent defense..figure two from the draft, and two from free agency.....and we're still short a full deck.

And based on this story he went to class...that's a plus.

then we shall learn in the shade.
