The Papa John's kiss

BlueGuy : 2/9/2016 5:06 am
What the fuck was that? I mean, really. While we're lamenting the Budweiser plug, how staged was that kiss? And how much did Peyton get paid for that?

Papa John is a media whore. A megalomaniac in the the same vein as Oprah Winfrey. Remember her magazine,'O'? It was Oprah on the veranda. Oprah on the beach. Oprah at the opera. Oprah getting backshots from Steadman. Fucking sickos. Cant just be rich, right? I have to be IN EVERY FUCKING COMMERCIAL, as well.

And does the one sided kiss mean Peyton is a friend of mine or a friend of ours? I thought two kisses was a friend of ours.

And Papa John looks likes a serious pedo. I get that vibe every time he says, 'Papa Jooooooohn'. Weirdo.

Tell us how you really feel
rocco8112 : 2/9/2016 5:34 am : link
That crap with Papa John was absurd though. Peyton was going to milk this gift given to him by the Bronco D and special teams for every last publicity dollar.

Hey, that is what pro sports is all about.

Rocco. You're Italian? Give us the dirt. Friend of mine or friend of ours?
haha

to be honest I have no idea
Cuh-mon, Roc.

You probably say gravy, too. Right?

At least tell me you say 'mootsarell'. If you say mozzarella, you fired and must turn in your IROC/Capezio card immediately.
C'mon Blue

The guy sold his '71 Z28 to start his own business in a closet. Spent untold millions to be affiliated with the NFL and he's from Indiana, Peyton's probably his favorite player.

He's the poster boy for Capitalism, the American Dream, how can you not like him? Just don't eat the pizza.
Another non story

How can you not like him? The guys a smarmy douche.
Pretty sure this is overt racism

You just don't like Papa John because he's black.

I dont like Papa John because he's an absentee father
Payton owns 21 papa john's franchises
haper : 2/9/2016 8:37 am : link
I'm sure Payton is paid as a company spokesperson, but he has a vested interest since he owns 21 stores in the Denver area since 2011. He's said the legalization of pot in Colorado has had a positive effect on business.

But I agree with the general consensus, Payton was already oversaturated wrt endorsements. This blatant shilling for Budweiser and Papa John's post game was absolutely ridiculous and quite embarrassing imo.
Who is Payton?
arcarsenal : 2/9/2016 8:40 am : link
.
I was disappointed in Manning
AP in Halfmoon : 2/9/2016 8:41 am : link
At the post game. Very poor taste, IMO
Would have been funnier if Peyton lost in retrospect
widmerseyebrow : 2/9/2016 8:45 am : link
A bawling embrace with Papa John. Telling Jim Nantz that he's going to drown his sorrows in Budweiser as he contemplates retirement.
I think it's both in poor taste, and the state of pro sports.
smshmth8690 : 2/9/2016 8:49 am : link
Other that being in poor taste, it has no effect on me. I neither eat Poppa John's, or drink Budweiser. I may on occasion drink a product from InBev, but it can be pretty hard to avoid that. Poppa John's commercials remind me of local places that I know make better pizza.
When Rosie O'Donell had her own show and ....
Crispino : 2/9/2016 8:51 am : link
tried to launch a magazine, a writer sent to do a story on her noticed that they had a continuous loop of her TV show running in the office at all times. When he inquired about the nonstop TV feed, a staffer told him it was so that employees could "internalize the essence of Rosie". Now that's fucked up.
I don't mind the product placement in sports as long as it's
jcn56 : 2/9/2016 8:55 am : link
left in non-playing time. A mention, a 'brought to you by IBM', etc., fine. When you start to see jerseys with corporate logos on them, we've gone too far.

I do think the NFL should fine them, though - they have rules against that, and they're there for fairness to the other sponsors who paid good money through NFL channels to have their products advertised.

Where I really can't stand product placement? Movies/TV. And it's getting so blatant, in some shows you can't separate the ad from the content anymore.
He does have a deep golden suntan
SomeFan : 2/9/2016 9:04 am : link
even in the winter. Looks odd. He ain't Italian ancestry either and the pizza is akin to cardboard. Dominos is gourmet in comparison.

Can't stand Francessa, but this is gold.
A friend of mine has some fun deets on Papa John
Mike in Long Beach : 2/9/2016 10:28 am : link
My friend's company works with Papa John's, and all employees who interact with the man himself had to sign an NDA regarding a bunch of Papa John's personal habits. The friend's been very tight-lipped (naturally), but one detail I got was that he waxes his arms of all hair multiple times a week.

The gist that was conveyed is that Papa John is actually a very nice guy. Always treated the people from my friend's company with respect... but he definitely is very, very odd.

Regarding him being a media whore... I mean, he owns a gigantic company and is on television for the most watched American event year after year. Of course he's gonna seek attention in that moment. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Producers are desperate for revenue. It's the price for having DVRs, piracy, etc.

There a plenty of reasons not to like him. Let's start with the way he treats employees, his attacks on the Affordable care Act, and, his product sucks. The NFL should be ashamed for maintaining an association with him.

Hey, it's their business, I can't blame 'em. Doesn't mean I have to like it. My point is just that it's more intrusive at that point than it is in sports, since most of the endorsement nonsense comes off the field.
So Peyton Manning decides to cash in on his SB win.
jsuds : 2/9/2016 11:19 am : link
Can't blame him a bit, doesn't bother me at all. I don't have to drink crappy beer or eat lame pizza regardless of what Peyton says after the game.

The man is just using what he's earned over all these years of greatness. Earning Potential. Use it while you have it. Smart business on his part. And funny in a dry humor kind of way. He's having the last laugh to cap off an unparalleled NFL career.
