So, this is an article about the position of the Bronco's current Defense against the ten best ever. And of course I looked at the list to see which of our lauded Giants squads ranked in the top ten.
None did. Shocking. To me at least. Maybe you guys already realized this was the case.
-Top 10-
2013 Seattle Seahawks
2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2000 Baltimore Ravens
1991 Philadelphia Eagles
1985 Chicago Bears
1976 Pittsburgh Steelers
1975 Los Angeles Rams
1973 Miami Dolphins
1971 Minnesota Vikings
1969 Kansas City Chiefs

Yes, Reggie would have looked great in Pats uniform along side Will McGinest. Parcells was long gone by the time true FA came along.
"Let’s see how the Broncos D compares with the other great defenses in history.
We’ll start with a group of ten made up of the defenses widely considered to be the best in league history and figure out where the Broncos fit in."
So right off the bat, it's qualified as "widely considered as...", not backed up by any objective measures. It's a subjective list from the writer's memory, that's all. In other words, it's lazy journalism.
How is that lmao? They were a great defense.
Our '86 defense is severely underrated for some reason. They were top 5 all time.
There's a lot wrong there.
False. The Eagles picked White #4 overall in the 1984 USFL supplemental draft. The Giants held the third pick, which they used to select Gary Zimmerman. Zimmerman, of course, refused to play in NY, so they traded him to the Vikings for three draft picks. With those picks, they selected Erik Howard, Mark Collins, and Greg Lasker.
I always felt that if Haynes didn't get hurt at St. Louis in December 1984, the Giants win that game and win the division. When he went down, Roy Green and Co started to do damage and the Cards won.
Yeah, they were great too, no question. But that 86 D. Oh my. They will always be the tits to me...
Where Clams is wrong is that while true that Reggie was a FA in 1993, Bill Parcells was already in New England.
Luckily they nade up for it in 1989 and struck gold with Myron Guyton in the 8th round

And on top of that we were never in the running. Washington, San Fran, and GB were the favorites. Though he made stops in a handful of other places as well...

I realize. Still a remarkable achievement though.
I did respect the Eagles D quite a bit because that DL was sick, but just going by what they did to the Giants wasn't an indicator. Our offense back then wasn't exactly some unstoppable force.
If anything, the Eagles unit that deserved some kudos for their performances against the Giants would be the offense. That f'n offense gave the Giants D, which was normally a brick wall, fits.
LDE Reggie White
LDT Mike Pitts
RDT Jerome Brown
RDE Clyde Simmons
LLB Seth Joyner
MLB Byron Evans
RLB Jessie Small
LCB Ben Smith
RCB Eric Allen
SS Andre Waters
FS Wes Hopkins
Plus rotation players like Andy Harmon and Golic.
I hope we never see an Eagles defense like that again. Anyone laughing at them should watch some film.
Oddly, the Bears 1986 D was statistically better than their 1985 D...
The Giants 1990 D has one of the lowest Points Allowed for an entire season (they are like #3 all time). It should on that list.
It was better at keeping opponents out of the end zone than our 1986 D -- which was more ferrocious/intimidating D in terms of destroying offensive teams and sacking the QB. The 90 D was more smothering, but less big play IIRC.
