From the article:
"If Eli was not particularly animated, he wasn’t the only one. While the front of the TV shot is a whirlwind of activity take a look at the gentleman on Eli’s left as you watch it. Look at the lack of reaction. Yep, that’s right, it is his father, Archie Manning. And he’s not smiling either. Are we supposed to believe he wasn’t happy too? Is he jealous of his son?
Even Peyton's and Eli’s brother Cooper hasn’t etched the grin that would be seen later yet, pursing his lips together."
The author's take was my reaction on the thread, too. Such overblown nonsense
Eli is a good brother - (
New Window )
To me Eli is gritting his teeth, and he sucks back breath through his teeth in the classic "oh nooooooo" reaction.
That being said, Eli's extremely difficult to read, we all know that. I prefer to think that he was happy.
with an article explaining the obvious. If you didn't realize immediately that Eli was processing remaining game scenarios then you you need to cut down on the booze or work on your overall football viewing comprehension.

Yes. He would definitely be saying "Oh no". Christ...
Oh wait--they are actual football players who know that there is still time on the clock, and they are still in anxiety because they want Peyton to win so badly.
Why are people so damn stupid?

it's definitely subjective.

I make no conclusions. Again, I prefer to think that Eli is happy about it.
All I am saying is that if you saw anybody make that same set of facial gestures, your interpretation would be that the person thinks something bad happened.
Both of them have the same look on their face and then Eli leans in to say something to Archie. They were waiting for the fat lady to sing.
Basically I'm sure they celebrated plenty when Ron Rivera stupidly punted just a few minutes later.

Except it's not anybody. It's Eli. For whom we have a wealth of information on his personality...
Anyone who thinks Eli would be anything but proud of his brother in that situation just has no concept of how the Manning family works.
This is ridiculous. I thought people were just joking, had no idea people are dumb enough to think his reaction was actually negative.
Unreal.

Welcome to 2016. Where people take one minor snapshot in time and try to invent international incidents to write about
Either that, or like I said before, the people just have really low emotional intelligence, resulting in an inability to accurately read faces.
I mean, there are just Eli haters out there... doesn't make a lot of sense....but they will be hating him well beyond his induction in Canton.
he's just an awkward guy. Sheesh.
It's called being nervous.
Archie had the same exact reaction.
It's called being emotionally invested in the outcome. Did you smile and laugh and have a good time during Super Bowl 42 and 46? I sure as hell didn't. Agonizing, nerve-wrecking experiences with massive exhalations throughout as things looked good and finally elation and outward happiness once the Hail Marys landed incomplete and we were World Champs...
We were not pleased.
Anyone who falls on the side of "Eli doesn't want Peyton to win" isn't a sports fan. They're just assholes that jump in when it's popular.

indifferent to what you call it, but its not jealousy/anger/concern that his brother was winning his 2nd. my only point.
