A good article on Eli's reaction

Essex : 2/9/2016 8:03 am
From the article:
"If Eli was not particularly animated, he wasn’t the only one. While the front of the TV shot is a whirlwind of activity take a look at the gentleman on Eli’s left as you watch it. Look at the lack of reaction. Yep, that’s right, it is his father, Archie Manning. And he’s not smiling either. Are we supposed to believe he wasn’t happy too? Is he jealous of his son?

Even Peyton's and Eli’s brother Cooper hasn’t etched the grin that would be seen later yet, pursing his lips together."

The author's take was my reaction on the thread, too. Such overblown nonsense

Eli is a good brother - ( New Window )
I dunno man
I Love Clams Casino : 2/9/2016 8:23 am : link
it's definitely subjective.

To me Eli is gritting his teeth, and he sucks back breath through his teeth in the classic "oh nooooooo" reaction.

That being said, Eli's extremely difficult to read, we all know that. I prefer to think that he was happy.

Even more overblown
Cruzin : 2/9/2016 8:23 am : link

with an article explaining the obvious. If you didn't realize immediately that Eli was processing remaining game scenarios then you you need to cut down on the booze or work on your overall football viewing comprehension.

Yes. He would definitely be saying "Oh no". Christ...
It's a bummer that Arche and Cooper don't want Peyton
Moondawg : 2/9/2016 8:36 am : link
to win either, if you look at their frozen expressions.

Oh wait--they are actual football players who know that there is still time on the clock, and they are still in anxiety because they want Peyton to win so badly.

Why are people so damn stupid?

I make no conclusions. Again, I prefer to think that Eli is happy about it.

All I am saying is that if you saw anybody make that same set of facial gestures, your interpretation would be that the person thinks something bad happened.
it's pretty obvious he and Archie know not to celebrate until the
GMenLTS : 2/9/2016 8:37 am : link
clock hits :00

Both of them have the same look on their face and then Eli leans in to say something to Archie. They were waiting for the fat lady to sing.

Basically I'm sure they celebrated plenty when Ron Rivera stupidly punted just a few minutes later.
yet another non story

Except it's not anybody. It's Eli. For whom we have a wealth of information on his personality...
Eli and Olivia
GiantNatty : 2/9/2016 9:25 am : link
Right after the touchdown, yes, Eli's face is stone-cold. But his mom goes to give him five and his hand is right there to meet hers. If we're going to ascribe intent to his body language, the high five is done as if to say "yeah mom! but the game aint over yet..."

Anyone who thinks Eli would be anything but proud of his brother in that situation just has no concept of how the Manning family works.
Why is he saying "oh no"
SomeFan : 2/9/2016 9:25 am : link
Why?
Anyone who reads Eli's face as anything but nerves...
moze1021 : 2/9/2016 9:29 am : link
must have ridiculously low emotional intelligence.

This is ridiculous. I thought people were just joking, had no idea people are dumb enough to think his reaction was actually negative.

Unreal.

Welcome to 2016. Where people take one minor snapshot in time and try to invent international incidents to write about
I'm sorry,
Randy in CT : 2/9/2016 9:45 am : link
but are there people who actually think that Eli wasn't happy with his brother winning?
Randy...
moze1021 : 2/9/2016 10:03 am : link
deep down, those people must know that they just dislike Eli, most likely due to jealousy, and therefore they go on and on with this joke that they can't honestly believe, but it makes them feel better.

Either that, or like I said before, the people just have really low emotional intelligence, resulting in an inability to accurately read faces.

I mean, there are just Eli haters out there... doesn't make a lot of sense....but they will be hating him well beyond his induction in Canton.
Any real, experienced football fan
MBavaro : 2/9/2016 10:08 am : link
would be reacting almost exactly the same way. That game was not over at that point. Though Carolina was on life support, anything could have happend.
given our ample
Enzo : 2/9/2016 10:10 am : link
experience with horrific late game collapses, you would think Giant fans would understand someone immediately contemplating the clock and conversion scenarios instead of getting excited at that point.
of course he's happy for his brother
eli4life : 2/9/2016 10:15 am : link
Especially since he knows he will have his third shortly :-)
This is so silly.

His Wife cheers. Do you think his wife would cheer if her husband was devastated/angry/upset?

he's just an awkward guy. Sheesh.

moze1021 : 2/9/2016 12:48 pm : link
I see nothing about that as awkward...

It's called being nervous.

Archie had the same exact reaction.

It's called being emotionally invested in the outcome. Did you smile and laugh and have a good time during Super Bowl 42 and 46? I sure as hell didn't. Agonizing, nerve-wrecking experiences with massive exhalations throughout as things looked good and finally elation and outward happiness once the Hail Marys landed incomplete and we were World Champs...

This whole thing reminds me of watching Super Bowl 42 at a bar. Down the stretch my friends and I were quiet as mice, each enduring his own brand of mental agony. At the same time some punk kid comes over to our table and tells us to cheer loud for the G-Men.

We were not pleased.

Anyone who falls on the side of "Eli doesn't want Peyton to win" isn't a sports fan. They're just assholes that jump in when it's popular.

indifferent to what you call it, but its not jealousy/anger/concern that his brother was winning his 2nd. my only point.
