It was so much fun for the kids (because Mardi Gras in Mobile and Pensacola is much more of a family-friendly event than in New Orleans).

New Orleans Mardi Gras is

worth experiencing once. Other than that it is just a mass of humanity, booze, crime, fights and crowds. Unless you have a balcony over Bourbon Street which is a great experience of course. I prefer the smaller Mardi Gras in St. Landry Parish, the Cajun Coast or even Alexandria or Natchitoches.

I had a blast there in 2002, but now I'd rather not run the risk of being vomited on by a random stranger again.
