NFT: Lazarito to choose his team tomorrow

DanMetroMan : 2/9/2016 1:14 pm
"I'm always ready. I'm realizing my dream to play professional baseball," Armenteros told MLB.com last week at Estadio Quisqueya during the Caribbean Series. "I'm planning on making a decision on [Wednesday], but only God knows what will happen and when I will sign. I'm not worried about it. I'm just waiting on the right opportunity."

what it's worth the scouts Keith Law spoke to felt Lazarito is overrated. Law was drooling over future Brave Kevin Maitan however.
Who are the contenders

1:10pm: There are nine total teams heavily involved in pursuit of Lazarito, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). Its still unclear precisely which teams are pursuing him beyond the Braves, though the clubs already in the max penalty are certainly a good place to start.
We don't reset until next 7/2, so I know it ain't us

Do the Yanks need to wait

until July 1 to sign him? Does he fit in the IFA rules?

At just 16 years of age, Lazarito is subject to international signing restrictions. Though he is a raw talent, Sanchez says hes expected to command a bonus in the range of $15MM to $20MM, if not more.

Clearly, anything close to that would push Atlanta (or any other team) well over its bonus allotment if the signing were to be completed in this July 2 period. Such a move would trigger a two-year ban on $300K+ international signings and a 100% tax on overages.
Well no way the Braves screw up the chance to get Maitan.

If Lazarito agrees to wait until 7/2 to sign then get that shit done, Hart/Coppy!

We are barred from signing IFAs >$300K until 7/2/17, and that's assuming that the new CBA doesn't find a novel way to fuck us (which it will).

Was it 2015 when we spent the big IFA money? I was thinking 2014. Need to do my homework.
It was the period running from 7/2/14 until mid-June 2015...
Dunedin81 : 2/9/2016 2:47 pm : link
so our bar ends 7/2/17
I hope Lazarito

signs with San Diego, Washington, or St Louis because those three teams are enamored rumored to be going hard for supposed future Brave Maitan and it would take them out of the running.

There were rumors that Atlanta did want him and were trying to convince him to wait until July 2nd to sign with them but they aren't going to mess up their chances of signing Maitan, catcher Abraham Gutierrez, and shortstop Severino by signing Lazarito before July.

The Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers are all out of the running for Maitan because they all went over the limit last year.
Awesome sign for Braves fans

He was listed on the original roster, but Kevin Maitan is not in attendance here at the MLB international showcase.
