A month ago I had surgery to remove what turned out to be a cancerous carcinoid tumor that was blocking my small intestine. The surgeon noted that I "had a significant amount of disease."
Yesterday my oncologist told my wife and me that the blood, urine, CT scan, octreotide scan etc show that I currently show no sign of any additional cancer.
I can't begin to describe the weight that has been lifted off of our collective shoulders. Honestly, for the last two weeks I have felt like a dead man walking.
Realistically, I probably have more carcinoid tumors that are too small to be detected, so while there is currently no cure for this form of cancer, it is slow growing so I am hopeful that the President's call for a moonshot to cure cancer will happen in my lifetime.
