The stupid idea of a "double standard" when it comes to weight/looks is rooted in some basic biological differences between men and women. It's not some sort of new opressive social construct invented by the patriarchy to keep women down.
Men and women are not the same. They don't find the same things attractive (for the most part) and they do not place the same levels of importance on traits of attractiveness. Could you imagine how doomed we would be as a race if all of a sudden men began only copulating with women that made good money and had good careers? It would solve overpopulation problems pretty quick.
