Rangers @ Penguins, 8PM, NBCSN

Giants in 07 : 2/10/2016 12:44 pm
McDonagh and Nash still out.

Doc Emrick will call the game and Pierre will be sitting on the Pens bench...I mean, in between the benches.

Rangers get their first look at Carl Hagelin in a Pens sweater.

Lets keep the winning streak going. Pretty big game, especially going into Friday night's matchup with the first place Kings.

Ooof....hard to decide who to root for in this one!
Greg from LI : 2/10/2016 12:45 pm : link
After all, the Rangers and Penguins aren't rivals or anything.
According to Newsday
figgy2989 : 2/10/2016 12:45 pm : link
Nash also out on Friday as well.
Thought I hit NFT.
Giants in 07 : 2/10/2016 12:46 pm : link
Anyway, really looking forward to hearing Pierre talk all night about how well Crosby has been playing..
Well he wouldn't be wrong
figgy2989 : 2/10/2016 12:48 pm : link
He has scored in 7 straight games. Pens have won 6 of 7....

yeah, for once you can't knock Pierre for kissing Sydnee's ass
Greg from LI : 2/10/2016 12:51 pm : link
He's got something like 35 points in the past 18 games.

I'm going to want to cry every time Hags is on the ice.
Ah, the hudson special. Always a good time.

Malkin out for the Penguins...

Christian Ehrhoff on waivers today. He's been a healthy scratch a bunch and kinda the odd man out. Clear some cap space and kick the tires? LD and a positive possession player with a good shot.

He's got a $1.5 mil cap hit

If the Rangers can squeeze him in under the cap, he may be a nice insurance pick-up.

Tanner Glass signed a 3 year / $4,350,000 contract with the New York Rangers, including a $950,000 signing bonus, $4,350,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $1,450,000. In 2015-16, Glass will earn a base salary of $1,000,000 and a signing bonus of $450,000. Glass has a cap hit of $1,450,000.

The Rangers couldnt keep Skjei up here an extra week
MetsAreBack : 2/10/2016 5:19 pm : link
and they are currently dressing 22 healthy players per night including only 2 LD(no one here on reserve), again keeping Skjei down, for cap reasons...

....there is zero room to bring on Ehrloff.
sorry ... 20 players not 22

Penguins last year late in the year
MetsAreBack : 2/10/2016 5:28 pm : link
were only dressing 18 guys some nights. THe common perception last year was the Penguins were a terrible team -- bullshit. They collapsed because of horrendous cap management coupled by a ton of late season injuries.

MetsAreBack : 2/10/2016 5:30 pm : link
what was strange about last season is that Lundqvist should have been eligible for LTIR which should have helped a lot. There was some nuance there we couldnt take advantage of, i forget what that was.
I remember LA
jv : 2/10/2016 5:34 pm : link
Had that problem last season but that had a lot to do with Voynov still counting against the cap while suspended

Crosby's wearing a mic between his pecker and sack so we can get color from Pierre every few minutes.

Year after year this team can't even set up in the offensive zone, let alone put on any pressure.

Consistently guys position themselves to best receive and possess the pass, rather than position themselves to do something (shoot/pass) off the pass. Furthermore, I think the backbone of a good PP is shooters, not a PPQB. We lack a booming point shot. We lack selfish forwards who are remorseless shooters. Also, in getting players there's a tradeoff between physical attributes (skating, size...), skill, and drive/intangibles. Only the superstars have all 3. We seem to be most willing to sacrifice skill. E.g. we dont have danglers. I think those uber skill guys are the ones you want on a PP. You want Russian forwards on your PP.

Just my theories.

Deej, I like your theories. I'd add that we don't move to open ice
yatqb : 2/10/2016 9:41 pm : link
well. You'll see us do it 5 on 5, yet on the PP we're not picking for each other, skating in coordination, finding open ice and moving the puck in concert with all of that. Now a sniper would be nice as well...c'mon down, Buch!
