Jerry Reese Today

BigBlueDownTheShore : 2/10/2016 12:54 pm
With these 3 major cuts, it reminds me of when he became GM and did the exact same thing going into the Super Bowl Season. I feel like in recent years he was not that ballzy with making drastic cuts when they needed to happen. Who knows if that was all his doing, but cuts like this are a step in the right direction to righting the ship.
Not a fan of JR
OdellBeckhamJr : 2/10/2016 12:57 pm : link
but I agree with these cuts. Need to move in a new direction...

Who were the 3 cuts from 07?
Arrington, Emmons and Petitgout
Ben in Tampa : 2/10/2016 12:59 pm : link
Cut almost 7 years to the day
Maybe he wasn't that "ballsy"...
Chris in Philly : 2/10/2016 1:00 pm : link
because TC wouldn't agree to release certain players.

Or maybe that doesn't fit into the Jerry is Sauron from Lord of the freaking RIngs narrative we've got going here...

Nah. Sauron cut people a lot faster than Reese.

I was hinting at that sentiment, but feared a backlash. David Deihl/Snee was a guy that I think younger Reese would have cut earlier, but Coughlins sentiment for him might have saved him.
Jerry Reese is clearly a lowly servant of Saruman

JR has seen the light. Like what I am seeing these last three years in the draft Now lets kick some ass in FA. Got to get " prime time " ELI and the team another SB shot.

From the narrative here, I figured he had to be Gollum, or Moxie or Pepsi Dingleberry.
He might as well go

Out in a blaze of glory. Now make JPP and Prince take it or leave it offers and move on.
I had my suspicions that there was a tug of war between TC and JR
David in LA : 2/10/2016 1:34 pm : link
on which players to place on the chopping block, we know TC is very loyal to veterans. That is why I think the deterioration of our OL wasn't a Reese decision, and it's what TC fought very hard for on the heels of SB 46.

Time to cut these all these disability cases, and rebuild for a brighter future with new blood.

That's not what I said you Troll Fuck.
cutting players is easy
djm : 2/10/2016 2:00 pm : link
the hard part is finding good players and receiving good health luck along the way.
It McAdoo's 1st year as HC. If you have players that are not part of
Watson : 2/10/2016 2:31 pm : link
the future, now is the year to release and try to build a better core group of players.

Reese is on the hot seat. But he will be judged on the quality of draft picks, New FA, and whether overall players retained can contribute. If overall talent improves, imo won/loss record will not matter at least for this year.
Maybe
PaulN : 2/10/2016 2:49 pm : link
Coughlin wanted to do this earlier and Reese wouldn't? How are we supposed to know any of that? So because Reese makes cuts that make sense now we are to believe this was his wish all along and Coughlin was the person against it. I thought it was Reese who has the final decision. So if he ever wanted to do anything he thought was best for the team he needs no approval, so I think your theory is not at all correct. The fact is that these players needed to be cut, and there may be more.
It's great
PaulN : 2/10/2016 3:22 pm : link
We are 60 mil under that cap, but if you do not sign the right players, you then have a crappy team. There are some good players out there but are we an attractive place to land now? If Reese is as bad as many here believe, then that money available will not do any good, we better hope Reese is not at all bad and id good, but just had a lot of bad luck, we better hope that is the case, the fact is that it is a very real part of the problem. We also got to hope that McAdoo is a home run, because we really need it to be.
Not sure I agree
giantgiantfan : 2/10/2016 3:46 pm : link
with the Beatty cut, everything else I agree with. However they will save $4 million this year and $6 million next year, that money and then some will have to go to finding a replacement Tackle on the left or right side depending on how you view Flowers.

Of course, Pugh can play tackle as well, if thats what you want to do. Then you need at least 2 starting guards.

Will be interesting to see how the Giants work out the offensive line. I'm all for upgrades.
Two more starters,
Bill in UT : 2/10/2016 4:30 pm : link
at least on paper, to replace. Next year is going to be painful
I was so wrong on Beatty --- Giants must believe they can sign a ROT
tempit : 2/10/2016 4:33 pm : link
for less than what Beatty's cap and salary will be in 2016 and a younger player. More changes on OL after last several years to fix OL.

Several teams have lots of Cap Space --- don't see there will be enough players to sign in Free Agency --- may have to overpay to fix OL.

No surprise that Schwartz is gone, he was a poor choice from the start but Free Agency does not offer many good players --- need to get lucky.

Another season with way too many new faces --- will take time for all these new faces to come together as a "Team".

the "Reload" statement is bull !

This is now the 4th year of a rebuilding process that will take at least one or two more years before Giants will compete for a championship.

Yeah right it was all TCs fault. Sure the rest of the league agrees not. Nonsense.

That doesn't fit the narrative and myths

. Considering Beatty is never healthy at least you have $10 million over two years to replace him, rather then pay him $10 million and still have to replace him.

. Giants cut three players today who barely sniffed the field and are always hurt. Possible they resign Beatty or Schwartz for mucchhhhhh cheaper

You're a moron. I never said it was all TC's fault, nor did I say the rest of the league agrees. Perhaps you should pay attention to the nuance here. It's a possibility, and it has been brought up by other posters such as GiantFilthy and JCN. Two guys who I think know their shit, which is a lot more than I could say about you.
Another day wasted on cuts...
SethFromAstoria : 2/11/2016 6:27 am : link
and not focused on rounds 4-6 in the draft. The more things change the more they stay the damn same. And he does it so spitefully you know?

WHat's next Jerry you gonna cut Herzlich? Newhouse? Anyone who means a DAMN thing to us?!?

Can we get a real GM in here?

Wait is this 2017? My bad. Nice moves.
