Do the Giants Bring Back Hakeem Nicks?

geelabee : 2/10/2016 1:59 pm

What do you guys think about this guy??

Does he need an off season in McAdoo's offense??

Or do we stick a fork in his back because he is done??

Obviously if he is brought back its got to be for cheap...thoughts??

I can't imagine he will be back.
Maybe he gets a camp invite because you need bodies
jlukes : 2/10/2016 2:00 pm : link
but if we add 3 or 4 WRs in free agency + draft then he might not even get a camp invite
No....
LeonofKiev : 2/10/2016 2:00 pm : link
why would you even need to ask this?
If I were GM, I might invite him to training camp
81_Great_Dane : 2/10/2016 2:03 pm : link
but I don't think he's got much left in the tank. His value depends a lot on off-the-field stuff: his professionalism, how good he is the locker room, how good he is with younger players as both an example and a mentor, etc.
Sadly, Nicks can no

Agree for sure...but in watching his brief stint with the Giants (albeit with limited targets), he also seems to have lost his ability to make catches in tight traffic. If you looks at clips of him in his prime, he came down with everything, even if he was tightly guarded. His catch radius was insane...he did whatever he had to do to make catches. That attribute is gone...which is a bit surprising.

Thought it was pretty evident that he's out of gas. Great Giant in his prime which, sadly, was cut far too short. But it's time to move on. His career is basically hanging by a thread at this point. Wouldn't be surprised if he's played his last down.

Someone will probably bring him into camp this summer and he won't make their cut and that'll be that.
Zero...

I think his best game was against TB

He toasted Aqib Talib many times in that game

chuckydee9 : 2/10/2016 2:12 pm : link
we can bring him back.. If we bring him back then JR needs to be fire.. the guy is cooked and we need a legit number 2 wr.. if we get a legit number 2 than Cruz is a good slot WR and Randle becomes our 4th with Harris as the 5th option.. for our 6th and 7th wr options its better to get rookies who have high ceiling.. There is no point in signing Nicks as a 6th wr..
I think it is more likely we hear a Nicks retirement
stockton : 2/10/2016 2:13 pm : link
than we do see him in camp.

That scumbag Mark Barron ended his career.
He's fine to bring

into camp to compete for one of the last WR roles, but the Giants need to add at least two "better" WRs this offseason (not counting Cruz).
Maybe as a camp body...

to invite him to camp. My guess he is a long shot at best. He seems to have lost the ability to create separation; not to mention he is another often injured player.
He's Rueben Randle

Have our memories faded? He quit, absolutely quit, on this team in 2013. I still can't believe we brought him back last year.

He's the original, "quit on your route" receiver. You think it's bad when Eli throws to Randle? Don't you remember 2013 and Nicks? OMG.

Thanks for 2011, it was awesome, but your injuries robbed you of NFL talent.

Agreed. He's done. He was only brought back last year because we needed a body. The common theme of today's cuts is that the Giants are getting rid of aging and/or injured players. Both of those unfortunately apply to Nicks.
Absolutely

Unfortunately, +1. Can't believe it went to shit so quickly for Nicks.

Retirement time for Hakeem. His body let him down. Tremendous potential when we drafted him. Great pair of hands and very strong going for the ball. Gave us great early years. Wish him the best.
Um
Route 9 : 2/10/2016 6:57 pm : link
I don't even know why he was on the 2015 team. Guy was practically useless when he came back and he's been cooked since midway or the beginning of the 2012 season

"He wasn't targeted. He wasn't targeted." Not that people were saying this on here but in other Giants pages Ive seen this, maybe he just wasn't getting open. He was great in the 2011 and I'll remember him for his role but good god if him not dropping that pass vs Philly in that last drive of the year wasn't a total inclination of what Nicks has become, I don't know what was

Or maybe, just maybe, his skills declined drastically from 2012, and we were just too upset to see it.
Why?
DavidinBMNY : 2/10/2016 9:01 pm : link
He's been hampered by his leg injuries. If he does come back, it's as a role player. They can bring him to camp, but he's can't be counted on.

For Nostalgia purposes yes.. but there is no way next year, Nicks will be a better option than Randle.. I know we all hate Randle cause he never lived up to his draft status and we have fond memories of Nicks from 2011.. but the 2016 Nicks is a shell of what we saw before ..he was dropped by 2 teams last year, including the Titans.. He should just retire..
I think that this could be Eli's call.
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 2/10/2016 11:51 pm : link
Since Eli has completed more passes to Nicks than to any other receiver in his career, and since he played and practiced with Nicks last season, Eli knows if Nicks has lost it, or if Nicks' showed little in his limited game time for other reasons.
Quit on his team

Really? The guy had compartment syndrome. Incredible he can still run. How dumb are some of these posts.

This is a guy who was a stud in 09-11 period, being compared to Randle???
I always have a problem with the idea that Nicks intentionally
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 2/11/2016 1:43 am : link
didn't play his best in his contract year. The first year after a new contract I could see.

But how stupid would he and his agent have to be for them to risk millions on his first non-rookie contract just to spite Reese and the Giants.

I suppose that they could be that stupid, but all I ever hear of is players playing their best football in their contract year and then maybe letting up after getting the new contract.

Love the iron men posting from their couch who throws around those types of accusations.
As was pointed out by someone
Matt M. : 2/11/2016 6:42 am : link
That final drive with the incompletion on what appeared to be a great call, great throw, etc. was probably the best indicator of where Nicks is. Every account from common fans to we'll versed fans to well versed media including analysts etc. we're that Nicks either wasn't running full speed or seemed incapable of getting to full speed. Either way, he is not someone who can be even remotely relied on. Think about where they were at WR at times and then think about how many snaps he was even taking. I don't even think he serves much purpose as a body in camp. He doesn't seem physically able to provide the level they need even for useful practice time.

It is sad and I don't say that lightly. For a brief period I think he was one of the top 5 WRS in the game. Unfortunately, his injuries were too much to overcome. I wish him well, but retire seems the way to go.
I think we owe him a trip to camp...
Howyadoin : 2/11/2016 10:24 am : link
It's the least we can do ...Once a Giant always a Giant
We don't owe anyone that can't play anything.
Matt M. : 2/11/2016 11:17 am : link
That is exactly the mindset we need to rid ourselves of.

takes a more modern approach with respect to proper rest and recovery from injuries (in addition to looking at the entire strength, conditioning, stretching, nutrition program from a proactive injury prevention standpoint). nicks was such an explosive, dynamic receiver but he was rushed back from his injury in 2012 and lost his explosiveness/speed.
If he isn't invited to camp, then we'll know what Manning and MacAdoo
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 2/11/2016 2:06 pm : link
thought about him last season.
No
giantsfan227B : 2/11/2016 2:12 pm : link
I think the Giants will look to fill the WR position through FA and the draft.

If Cruz is released the Giants really only have 1 WR but I can't imagine they want Nicks.
