Players in their 30's

ANGPASS : 2/10/2016 4:18 pm
Anquon Boldin 35 - I know he is on the wrong side of 30, but him on one side and Odell on the other with cruz in the slot is really good. We can still draft WR so we don't have to throw them in the fire ( like we did with Steve smith, manningham, Nicks)

Donald Penn 32 - I wouldn't mind signing him and still adding depth via another FA/ draft. He is a productive nasty lineman who can mold the younger lineman we have.

Brandon Mebane 31 - Good clogger in the middle. Him Hankins and Bromley would be a really good DT rotation. would still add depth.

Derreck Johnson 33 - He is still a solid MLB. If we sign him, i would still want to draft a Future MLB to be groomed.

Antonio Gates 35- He has been in the league for about 40 plus years. He has been in the league longer than he is alive. But i would still take him. He is still a highly productive player and would be an incredible help to our redzone offense. He has been over looked due to his age. I think him and Tye would be a scary two TE package.

I am not saying we should sign all of these guys. You would want to get younger. But these are guys who are in their 30's who I believe would not come expensive and still play at a high level. Due to the large amount of money, we could bring in younger studs and mix in some of the more seasoned but productive players. I think these guys would be cost friendly. Another thing with these guys is leadership.

Would anyone want any of the above players for next year?

I don't want anyone for one year

fix the team through a solid draft and good long term signings. Then pick up the 1/2 year signings when you realize your final holes to plug in.

Agree, but you know they are not going to draft players and make them all start. Like i said, i don't want all of these guys, but these are the guys in their 30's i wouldn't mind for next year. Mebane is the exception for more than 1 year.
I think it depends on what they sign for

Would I care if the Giants signed Anquan Boldin to a contract like James Jones signed last year? No I wouldn't. Sure go ahead and do that.

I'm not giving any of those guys you listed 3 year deals though. That's how you get into 2001 Redskins Cap Land.

I'm all about bringing in a few veteran leaders but please don't break the bank for any of them.
With the current state of the roster

.
Sometimes an older player gets cut or not resigned for cap reasons

who still has something left in the tank. That was the case with Sam Madison and R W McQuarters were a good example.
I don't mind Boldin & Gates at the right price, IF

Long term alternatives aren't available.

They would give Giants decent production & reduce needs, at least for a year.

A lot of needs, can't fill them all in 1 year despite the cap money Giants have & the high draft picks. They more
One Year

Players nothing wrong with that for this team we will not replace all thirty plus guys from our former 53 in one year it just can't be done. A one year guy can be resigned if he performs and you still have not found a replacement and the money is right. In fact a one year deal works for both the player and the team neither is forced to remain if someone or a better offer comes along.
