Trade for a franchised plaayer

CMicks3110 : 2/10/2016 5:23 pm
Is that a possibity, assuming we aren't giving up a 1?
You think you're going to sign a franchised

Player without giving up a one?
For a non-exclusive franchised player
Peppers : 2/10/2016 5:29 pm : link
You're giving two 1st round picks.

Only player worth our 10 and next years 1st is Von Miller. And Von will more than likely get the exclusive tag.
Where?

are two types of Franchise players:

One you can't sign.

The other costs TWO #1 picks.
why would any team trade a franchised player
gidiefor : Mod : 2/10/2016 5:35 pm : link
who they are prepared to pay max salary to - without getting back a couple of number 1 picks -- we're talking about a franchised player here, who wouldn't be franchised unless they had proved their value -- they don't grow on trees

Micks - would you give up a franchised player for less than the going rate?
To answer the question
Stan in LA : 2/10/2016 5:35 pm : link
The picks can be negotiable if the team with the player is willing to lower the compensation.

I believe that's right, no?
Maybe I read it wrong - I thought CM was referring to trading
jcn56 : 2/10/2016 5:35 pm : link
with Denver and agreeing upon less than a 1st.

Which, IMO besides them not going for it, I don't believe it's allowed by rule.

That's not totally true. It's only a 1 year deal(franchising, like JPP) and an average of a # of the top salaries, not the Max.

Stan -- slice it anyway you want it's the NFL's version of max salary

anyway -- I'm sure Stan would trade Von Miller away for less than 2 # 1 picks and half the Papa Johns in Colorado

Gidie, I'd easily give up 2 number 1's for you and a future 2
Sorry, was driving home from work when I saw some of the responses

The question - Why would someone trade a franchise player for less than a 1st round pick, even though it is required to compensate the player's original franchise under the collective bargaining agreement with two 1st round picks for signing said player.

The reason is that the player (a) takes up a lot of cap space (b) may not want to be part of that franchise and/or is looking for a contract that that franchise is not willing to provide (i.e. JPP before fireworks) and (c) would receive compensation they would not normally have received if they were to leave via free agency.

Essentially, the Market for 'trading' for a franchise player is not the same as the collective bargaining agreement's rules for signing a franchise player.

So while the elite franchise players like Von Miller might not be available in a trade because he is pivotal to the franchise's success. A player like Cordy Glenn or Alshon Jeffrey may be franchised but have every intent on not remaining with their respective teams for the reasons mentioned above.

So the question is, what is the value (in draft picks and/or players) for those franchised players? I certainly wouldn't trade a 1, but I would be tempted to trade a 2 or 3 for players such as Wilkerson, Glenn, Jeffrey, etc.

It's safe to suggest it's very unlikely
JonC : 2/10/2016 6:59 pm : link
you;re getting any of those players for a 2 or 3.

Just before free agency and the draft seems an inadvisable time to do that.

Something tells me that after signing, Von Miller is not going to have quite the year he had.
