I must say though, if there's one time you can be an unbridled idealist, can't it be in college? Some here think that them being so PC is practically anti-American. They are trying to use the intellect that they are currently honing to examine the way that they and others think.
To me, they are over the top, but it is certainly better to at least give an attempt at thinking rather than pick your ass, slug down your beer, then yammer on as a photocopy of your dad's beliefs.

Those college students were naive as all hell, but the fact remains that when you say things like "obese african-american" with a [paraphrasing] "high-pitched voice that someone of the homosexual disposition" has, it conjures up that kind of sketch in some people's minds.
There's a good balance here somewhere, and hopefully we're all fighting towards the same ultimate goal. (Respecting others while still being able to voice one's opinion.)
