If both were healthy, this would be the easiest draft ever for me. Just take whichever guy is there at our pick, since it's unlikely two 43 MLB/OLB types would be taken before our pick.

If they hadn't been injured, both would be long gone by the 10th pick. Impact players don't last that long. Jack and Smith both are rated in the top 5 in the nfl.com draft tracker. The injuries make it dimly possible that Jack will be there and fairly likely that Smith will be there at the 10th pick.

"Non-Pass Rusher 1st" Linebackers drafted since 2010
Luke Kuechly
Rolando McClain
That's it. The Aaron Curry BUST in '09 combined with the way the game has been evolving in this decade has made GMs put less emphasis on drafting TRUE LB types early. The LBs being drafted early now are pass rush 34 OLB types like Von Miller.
Both Jack and Smith are true LB types (especially Smith), not edge rushers.
It would've gone against recent trends if both went top 10, even if both look like surefire top 10 talents.
Each year there a one or two going to become excellent NFL players how many do? The answer 1/2 in twenty I don't know of one that we could have drafted that has become that special player in the first round. If we draft one of the top two this year i would have to say everything that JR just did in the last twenty four hours was a damn lie. These guys are talented but can we afford to take an injured player when we just cut two proven NFL players who had injury problems.
The beat writers are so convinced we would never draft an LB high...
If Jack makes it there (understanding that he probably won't) I'd love to see the pick, for obvious reasons but also so Graziano can stutter out an explanation.

Osi, you're among the best posters on this forum, but IMO you are way off on this topic. Remember the draft adage that "interior OL and ORTs aren't worth top half of the first round slots!"?
Then in 2013 OGs Cooper and Warmack went top 10, and ORT (now OG?) Fluker went 11th.
If healthy Jack and Smith were long gone by our pick IMO.
I want no part of Jones. His best attribute is probably not needed here: punt returner.
He's pretty high on Lawson, whom many here say will test poorly in Indy.

Cyrus Jones is his #5 CB?

However Lawson tests in the combine, he gets to the qb and plays the run well.
