with what were were told about his condition, in OTA's, preseason, and the regular season? It was like talking on the phone and being put on hold forever.....
After the blood bath yesterday, it makes you wonder.....will the Giants play hardball with him, and demand a paycut/restructure, or move on?
Cruz is a tease, because we know what he is capable of, when healthy....the knee has had two years to heal....the calf is still in the process of healing.....everyone wants him back, but we could be left holding the bag, like last season, if he is really counted on as a piece of the puzzle....
Next season he will have the same number of catches
Cruz is a tease, because we know what he is capable of, when healthy.
what he WAS capable of. Remember, his huge year was 2011. Even the year before he hurt his knee he was a solid player for us but not exactly what we saw in his career highlight reel.
I see them stringing along his rehab, having him on the sidelines for OTAs, minicamp, etc. All the while they will be saying the goal is to be ready for September, but he gets no real snaps during the summer and then we are left wondering what the deal is with Cruz at the start of the season when he isn't active.
but it's hard to see a scenario where he stays healthy throughout the off season and plays well all season.
I think he will make progress, and then a calf, or his hamstring, and he will play some, but he will never hit his stride and be the player he once was.
I hope I'm wrong for his sake and the teams sake, but I cant see this as being an all out positive story.
RE: Renegotiates and returns with a solid yet unspectacular season
Is not being honest to himself or the fans you cut two guys who missed considerable time in the past two years. However you have not cut the guy who missed the most time in the same period of time. Now if he had said we tried to restructure the contracts but we could not come to an agreement then maybe we could understand the Cruz situation but that's not the case. When you set a standard does it not have to apply to everyone or else the animals will bite you to pieces.
The question is not if Cruz can ever play again the standard you set is we will no longer spend big money on injured players. This is not a unique thing the superbowl winning QB had the same experience and his former team would do the same thing again if put in the same position. JR it sometimes pains one to be the man but if your going to be the man then be honest to yourself and your players live by your standards. The worst thing a leader can ever do is have different standards for those who follow him. There is an old saying if you pull out the blade don't return it to it's home until all the blood is spilt.
JR Beware don't let Cruz become your Waterloo, (The truest wisdom is a resolute determination).
Cruz and the Giants will strike an incentive laden deal that allows him to earn more than he would have in free agency, if his health situation is positive. Then if it doesn't work out it doesn't' work out. I don't think another team is going to value him more than we do.
he'll be injured before the start of the season. Patellar tendon again. I may be wrong, in that he may be able to nurse it into the season, but by the end of September his football career will be over.
Hes running, he is cutting, ahead of schedule. We restructure his deal and give him some bonus money. We fail to sign another decent WR because we are counting on Cruz.
We get to OTAs and we hear
"he is being held out for precautionary reasons"
We get to Camp and we hear
"he is doing well, but we are going to hold him out for precautionary reasons"
3rd preseason game Cruz plays and does OK.
We hold him out 4th preseason game and the start of the season there is a setback and he misses game after game.
We hear "It's a week to week thing so no IR"
Cruz never plays another down for the season and we hear "he is expected to make a full recovery and we expect him back"
Or we just cut him.
Either way I think the Giants should look elsewhere, he is not a guy you can count on. I will expect at some point he will miss significant time this season and whatever team he is playing for will be left with a big hole. We have had bad luck with injured WRs so we should be gun shy.
Steve Smith
Jamar Taylor
Dominic Hixon
David Tyree
Etc
Takes massive paycut on the surface only to find out he has performance escalators built into the contract. In the end the Giants recoup about $3M. He re-injures the leg and is never a factor for 2016.
I hope the injury part of that prediction is 100% wrong.
RE: I think we're still going to end up releasing him
about his condition at the 1st OTAs post draft?
We are talking about 100 days from today, and it's already been forever it seems.
I think the Giants better plan for life after VC immediately.

At some point he renegotiates his deal converting salary to incentives.
He has an excellent training camp.
He finishes the season with 97 receptions for 1,412 yards and 13 TD's.
Is the MVP of the Super Bowl with 8 catches for 112 yards and 2 TD's.

That would be wonderful.
Give him all the incentive bonuses to reach his pre-injury level production and let him earn it.

and I'll add is part of a very dynamic receiving corp.......
Giant for life
Just my gut, I hope I'm wrong, GOD I hope I'm wrong.

Odell Beckham Jr and puts up 1,300 yards after missing four games to start the year
If there is a chance he will miss the first four games, he will be cut....injury settlement....
I hope the injury part of that prediction is 100% wrong.
and since you won smartest poster on the board, I'm going with your prediction, although I think kickerpa got ripped
