Here comes Marvel again. This one is off the charts and not for the kids.
Maybe DC should have released Suicde Sqaud first. This one is knee deep in gore.and shock. There is a reason his costume is red. Link - ( New Window )
With my 18-year-old Deadpool-obsessed daughter. Awkward. Seeing it with my daughter, that is. The movie? Just fine. Very funny at times. My daughter was giddy after; she says they got it right, except Deadpool is less pansexual and a little straighter than he is in the comics. But hey, that's what sequels are for, right?

How bad is the content, or why the R rating? I don't know a lot about the character and I didn't see much in the previews that gave me the hint of the R rating.

did you watch the Preview?
Yes I've seen the previous and nothing I've seen tells me R rating, unless the ones they show in the states are different. The previews haven't looked any worse then any others for this genre.
JOrthman have you watched the red band trailer or just the green band and/or commercials. The blood splatter when he shoots the 3 guys in the head is probably worse then anything in the comic boon genre (well Marvel/DC not like sin city). Im sure there is a ton of F bombs and Im pretty sure there is also some nudity which is going to get you the R rating pretty quick.
If you told me when I was 13, geeking out at a Punisher vs Deadpool miniseries, that Van Wilder would star in a Deadpool movie in 13 years, I'd have called you insane.
One of my top 3 favorite "heroes". 2 parts spidey, one part punisher, one part wolverine.
SATURDAY UPDATE: Deadpool brought in an estimated $47.5 million on Friday and an "A" CinemaScore. That's the largest Friday ever in February, besting Fifty Shades of Grey's $30.2 million Friday last year by a whopping $17.3 million. Projections now have the film opening with $110-116 million for the three-day weekend and possibly as much as $130 million for the four-day, both of which would obviously be records.
I thought the film was great. A little worried about Fox getting a little to hands on in a sequel. Deadpool - ( New Window )

Deadpool is not a kiddy character. He is a murdering mercenary that shoots people up and cracks jokes the whole time.
You'll love this movie. Man that was just hardcore. Saw it theater was full and no one should bring kids to this. Once again Marvel surprises with the smaller movie, like GOG and Antman. Left lots of room for a Sequel.
from watching and I was surprised how much I found myself laughing at the jokes it was well done. However I was shocked how many parents brought little kids to this movie I know this country has a lot of problems but parenting in this day and age has to be a major part of it.

They really should of marketed different. I never followed the comic and didn't know much about it. All the previews I saw didn't tell me much about an R Rating. Saw it last night and it became obvious why it was an R.
didn't expect Marvel to take it up a few notches either.
This is what I think Suicide Squad is going to be like.
This was Marvel for adults. It sure wasn't Avengers like.
Old son who knew nothin about Dead Pool. It was hilarious and done correctly w the R. Only issue was the fat ass next to me who insisted on chatting w her husband like they were the only two there. Not to mention that she snorted like a hippo
One of the best comic character adaptions to movies ever done
They nailed his personality perfectly. His sense of humor was spot on. Kudos to FOX movie studios for giving Miller and Reynolds the freedom to make the R rated movie they wanted to make and not censored them to get a PG-13 rating.
Hopefully after making $135 million over the weekend, FOX will allow that similar freedom on the sequel and raise their $58 million budget (loved the line in the movie about how FOX could only afford to show two X-Men in this film)
Looking forward to the story line involving Cable and Deadpool for the sequel.
But I also want to post on this thread to give it a bump, so that two Deadpool threads appear on the first page of NFT threads. Never has such an evil, destructive plot been executed!
but isn't that why they have an R-rating in the first place?
I get that, but not all "R" ratings are created equal. The Porky movies were rated R, but you wouldn't really compare the R they got to Deadpool would you? A lot of action/horror movies go R for violence, where as Porky's for sexual content/Nudity, which Deadpool was a little of both.
Heard all the great reviews and had high expectations. Maybe I went too early (Sat @ 7:00 pm), but the theater was maybe 20% full and barely chuckled at the jokes.
I'll watch again someday when it gets to cable to give it another shot. Can't believe I sat through all the credits for the lamest teaser ever.

But Porky's was before PG-13 existed as a rating so it was either R or PG. And it obviously wasn't PG. Most movies try for PG-13 to nowadays to get the largest audience as possible. The fact that any movie remains R in today's industry is a very strong indication that it is not appropriate for kids AT ALL.
Note that I'm not saying that Porky's wouldn't be R today, merely pointing out that it is tough to compare the PG/R movies to the current rankings. Although I'm betting if it came out today they would have tweaked it to fit as a PG-13 film.

They would have had to cut the shower scene and cover up Kim Cattrall in the boy's locker room. They wouldn't have done it, IMO.
If there were young kids there, then I think it's fair to question parenting skills. Marvel or not, there are several places to see the big "R" before you enter the theater. I think if you're bringing young kids with you, especially single-digit aged kids, to see an R-rated movie (any R-rated movie at all) then I think you suck as a parent.

Definitely DO NOT take your kids (even early teens) to this movie...
