I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but Revenge of the Nerds is the funnier college movie. I've maintained this for a while and would like to know if anybody else feels this way.
Animal House is an iconic movie that has stood the test of time. Revenge of the Nerds is just another decent comedy from the 80's that tried to ride the coattails of Animal House.

And I think that the humor is more identifiable in RoN than AH. My college experience was more closely related to RoN than AH. Who the fuck wore a V neck in college? Who the hell belonged to a frat AND ROTC? I just thought Animal House was "a good movie." But kinda out there as far as realism.
"Shit we forgot to practice"
Not sure if better, but it's much closer than some would say IMO Â
but way over rated. It's only a classic because of the reception it got. The movie itself was only so-so. (of course, you have to filter that from the POV that Belushi was nails on a chalkboard. the world seemed to think he was something special, but I never saw it)
Revenge of the Nerds was decent.
I'd rank them both about the same.
And furthermore, if I never saw either one again, I won't lose sleep.
But some are more out there than others. Someone can like head cheese more than filet mignon. Now while you are entitled to your opinion to expect many to side with your is more than a bit naive
AH was insane and ground breaking. Now ROTN was a nice spin on the college genre certainly But nesr AH as a cultural movie impact. Please. We all come from different generstions but One really see both when they were new IMO. I was 14 when Animal House came out and snuck in to see it. And of course older for Nerds but if you polled 1000 people between let's say 40 and 50 who saw both in he theaters it would most likely be a huge huge margin on who liked which better skewed towards Animal House. Probably like 9 to 1. If it was like 75-25 even that would astound me
Pre 1950: Think both are stupid
1950-1965: Animal House (saw it in theater and watched original SNL)
1966 - 1980: Revenge of the Nerds (saw it in theater and grew up watching Eddie Murphy on SNL, not Dan Aykroyd)
1980 - after: Animal House (because it's the cool thing for milennials to like it)
Clap your hands everybody, and everybody clap your hands. We're Lambda Lambda Lambda and Omega Mu. We come here on stage tonight to do our show for you. We got a rockin' rhythm and a hi-tech sound that'll make you move your body down to the ground. We got Poindexter on the violin, and Lewis and Gilbert will be joining in. We got Booger Presley on the mean guitar and a rap by little ol' me Lamar. We got Takashi beating on his gong, the boys and the Mu's are clapping along. And just when you thought, ya seen it all, along comes a Lambda four foot tall.
my Dartmouth connection is too strong. I went there as a freshman the summer after Animal House came out. I pissed in the same Alpha Delta basement that Chris Miller did. We road tripped to Mt. Holyoke. We lived this movie.
ROTN is a very fine comedy, but it doesn't hold a pledge night candle to Animal House.
I think both movies are overrated because they're before my times, I find the over-the-top love for everything Animal House a little ridiculous. But at the end of the day, Belushi really was the man so in 2030 when I'm bored and want to watch one of these two movies I'll choose AH.

Was born in 66. U need to move that date to about 70 at least. I saw AH In the theater as did most of my friends
*Bonus points* for RotN if you were a child of the 80's Â

1970? I was born in 1969 and my parents would absolutely not let me see AH in the theaters when it came out in 1978. I don't think a bunch of 8 year olds were going to R rated movies in 1978.
it's hard to top Bugger winning the belching contest Â
because it's a hell of a lot like what happened when I was in college.

Sorry u never got to see it later on cable VHS. When did you see it if you remember. Most people figured out a way to see it eventually as teens.

I never said I didn't see it, just that I didn't see it in the theater. I probably saw it on VHS when I was 16 or 17.
I never got AH but loved ROTN (and the full-frontal nudity was a bonus.)
Also, wasn't Revenge of the Nerds the first place where "douchebag" was used as an insult?
Stan Gable: What are you looking at, nerd?
Booger: [to himself] I thought I was looking at my mother's old douche-bag, but that's in Ohio.
From an etymology of the term:
In the 1960s. The Historical Dictionary of American Slang traces the epithet douche to a 1968 collection of college slang compiled at Brown University, which defined the word as “a person who always does the wrong thing.”
The insult douchebag is somewhat older. The 1939 novel Ninety Times Guilty includes a pimp named Jimmy Douchebag, and the Historical Dictionary of American Slang traces the epithetical usage to a 1946 journal article about military slang, which offered the definition “a military misfit.”

You just got your asses whipped...by a bunch of god damned nerds. Nerds!!!
people's sense of humor varies big time. My X thought Martin Lawrence was far funnier than John Candy.
Revenge of the Nerds was decent.
I'd rank them both about the same.
And furthermore, if I never saw either one again, I won't lose sleep.
Belushi, Matheson, Sutherland, Allen - even Bacon getting spanked.
Revenge of the Nerds - Edwards, Carradine, Busfield, McGinley and Goodman.
Funny movie, but why like the remake when the original holds up so well?

She's not that kind of girl, Booger.
Why? Does she have a penis?
I do think that AH ranks a bit higher, but it's a lot closer IMO than a lot of others think.
Only 4 or 5? Did we see the same movie?
Revenge is underrated, but still not in the same class as Animal House.
Seriously one of the funniest things ever

For a start, there were probably 4 or 5 moments when they saw Otis Day at the bar alone that had me laughing.
"What's your major?"
"primitive cultures"
*smash cut to Otis*
they sure don't do racist humor like they used to!

THATS MY PIE!
Ogre: "That's Ogre you asshole"
Dean: "Ogre, you asshole"
::Ogre glares at Dean::
Dean:.....Ogre
-----------
Dean: And for the Lamdas, Dudley Dawson
Booger tossing cig into Ogres beer: "Call me Booger."
Dozens of lines that are burned into my mind

A lot of bad came out of the 80's, bad hair, bad clothes, a lot of bad music (not all), bad movies.
