It's not a done deal... Just that talks have been had... The 'Melo to the Cavs' part could be misleading but I was just trying to state where the current Knick would be headed

His value may be at an all time low (at one point he was talked about as a top 10 player), but no one is worried about that contract.
Melo certainly opened the door

with those comments today. Anyone who thinks he's unwilling to waive that no-trade is kidding himself. Phil won't have to twist his arm.
Dont want Mozgov
Deej : 2/12/2016 10:02 pm : link
He's a UFA and we're not paying a center with Lopez and KP here. I want the Brooklyn pick plus some combo of other picks from Boston and some of the guys Boston took this year. Dont know much about them since they went pro, but there were a bunch of #1s.

Yeah it's a dance. Phil sent a message, essentially asking Melo if he's DTF. Now Melo sent a message, saying yes. Phil now knows he can pimp out Melo without offending his franchise player. Melo could still reject a trade of course. But this is how it is done. You dont ask the player directly.

That's a bit much to give up for Love, no?
Nah
Deej : 2/12/2016 10:12 pm : link
Boston wants to unload the quantity. They're desperate for a scorer. Celts are going to have to give more than the Brooklyn #1 for Love. He's a star, even if he isnt gleaming as bright. He scored Wiggins plus going into his UFA season. Now you own him on a very reasonable deal. Getting to pay Love 21 or 22 million when Horford is getting 30 this summer or upto 38 the following summer = good deal.

No question about it. That's the chip to get. KP, a top five pick this year and (likely) a top 10 pick next year as we take our lumps with a young team. THAT is how you build.
By the way in case anyone cares
moespree : 2/12/2016 10:28 pm : link
Porzingis is dominating this futures world/usa game. If they hand out MVPs for this game he's probably going to win it. 23 points in 20 minutes, 4 of 5 from 3 and blocked Russell.
The Nets pick and the chance to get Ben Simmons is the only really

appealing part of this rumored trade
Guys
GMEN46 : 2/12/2016 10:29 pm : link
They stole this from me I started a thread 3 days ago with this idea. It's a no brainer for everyone. The trade isn't about mozgov they need to match contracts to make it work I'm assuming Calderon is gone to Cleveland also because they need a backup pg. Knicks would get expiring Lee and mozgov. Knicks need to do this if they can get smart and unprotected brooklyn pick and perhaps be greedy and demand a pick from the cavs.

Absolutely that is a rebuild I would be very happy with. They should have everyone on the block except for KP.
The Nets pick and the draft picks are the only thing really appealing
Anakim : 2/12/2016 10:31 pm : link
Getting rid of Calderon is also appealing, but not at the expense of Melo.

Sure, if we get a chance to get Ben Simmons or Ingram, I'd do it, but I want more than the Nets pick. I'll also want Marcus Smart

The Cavs would likely throw in their first as well since it is likely to be one of the final picks of the first round. I would be thrilled with the expiring deals of Mozgov and Lee plus Nets 1st and the Cavs 1st especially if Calderon is included in the deal. Give Grant more playing time to see if he shows enough to be in the mix for PG of the future.
Celtics would be nuts
Bill L : 2/12/2016 10:34 pm : link
But Ainge has fixated on Love for a while, so who knows. I certainly wouldn't do it.
And Grant

Knicks can get more I think
Deej : 2/12/2016 10:35 pm : link
Celts have the Nets pick plus 4 late #1s/early #2s. They cant even use all those picks and have been telling the league. I want the Brooklyn pick, at least on other #1 this year or next, and a #2. Or a young developmental guard they've already drafted (hypothetical).
Anthony
Dragon : 2/12/2016 10:35 pm : link
If your going to trade him move for your benefit not his or another teams. Is Anthony really not worth more than a player and a pick? Plus why make an eastern team better send him west not east.

If that pick is the potential #1 pick yes the Knicks should trade him.
I really want
GMEN46 : 2/12/2016 10:39 pm : link
Smart in that deal his defense tenacity at of is what the Knicks need. Smart zinger and Brooklyn pick plus 2017 would be awesome way to build for future.

Boston needs to get love he is locked in to what will be an undervalued salary. Boston will still have 3 other 1st rd picks next year plus nets 2017 and 2018 picks. It's there best chance to get a star type players
Why wouldn't the Celtics want Simmons?

The question is what is Boston willing to forgo for a ~1/8 chance at Simmonds, and a ~7/8 chance at someone else.
That also applies to any other team
Bill L : 2/12/2016 10:50 pm : link
Like I said, Danny has wanted Love for a long time so he might go with emotion. IMO, it's not a smart basketball move considering where they are now and the assets they hold. And I'm not worried about too many picks; they will be consolidated. Now if Love is the "name" needed to entice, say, Durant, then that's a different story.

McFly, it needs to be for his benefit too or the NTC isn't getting waived.
If you are the Knicks
Big Rick in FL : 2/12/2016 10:51 pm : link
You have to make a trade that includes the Nets unprotected #1, multiple players & more picks. You take the chance on Simmons. KP & Simmons would definitely get us a guy like Westbrook or Durant. Could you imagine KP, Simmons & KD/Russ? That would be a legit contender.

I think you HAVE to do it if it is the Nets pick plus several other picks. Just the Nets pick? If it isnt a top 2 pick then the value is probably off.

KP, the Nets pick, a probably early/mid lottery pick next year sets you up for a good argument for the big UFAs in 2017-2019.
If I'm the Celtics, I don't trade that Nets pick
illmatic : 2/12/2016 11:05 pm : link
to get Love. He's kind of injury prone and he sucks defensively. For someone like Cousins, sure. For Love... nope. I'd rather take my chances at getting Simmons because I think he's going to be incredible. Even if it's not Simmons, it's probably going to be a top 5 pick and there are some other pretty damn good players in this draft.

Cleveland doesn't need a backup PG. They can't even find minutes for Mo Williams with Kyrie/Delly playing.
Delly is awful

No way in hell the Celtics give up
AJ23 : 2/12/2016 11:29 pm : link
The Brooklyn pick AND Marcus Smart. Are you kidding me? Smart's grown into basically a starter with his minutes this year. The Celtics just took him sixth overall in 2014 and his development has been phenomenal.

There are scenarios where the celtics dont give up either the Brooklyn pick or Smart. They own the following slots in the 2016 draft: 3, 19, 23, 31, 35, 49, 51 and 57. They also have the option to trade their 1st next yr for Brooklyn's 1st and exclusive rights to Brooklyn's first in 2018.

Ainge likes Love. But trading arguably the team's most promising players to get him? Come onnn
Why was there so much acrimony directed towards the Sixers...
BurberryManning : 2/12/2016 11:35 pm : link
when it seems as though many Knicks fans are now willing to undergo the same "tanking" process? Nevermind that the tanking version of the Sixers took this Knicks team to the wire in MSG, but it confounds me that so many were quick to lambast the Sixers process while now many NYKS fans are more or less willing to punt a season for a top pick.

The reality is that you're either a contender or you better be in contention for a top pick. Trust the Process.

listen to Kay and Lagreca today and think it slightly odd that Kay said "The Daily News and the Knicks have a very antagonistic relationship and do not like each other"?

How is it likely that this newspaper prints anything legit and or positive about a team they openly "dislike"? I know Isola does but i didn;t really think of it as this entire paper that reports news, can report the news how they want and they hate your team so who knows what they;kk say or how. It;s weird to me.

Delly has made massive improvements in the last year. He is shooting 43% from 3 and 42% from the field while playing strong defense and distributing fairly well. He does not suck.

The reality is that you're either a contender or you better be in contention for a top pick. Trust the Process.

That's just a ridiculous comparison and one that only a Sixers fan can come up with. The Sixers have tanked for 3 years straight and counting. Putting in zero effort to put up a respectable showing. There is a difference between a team giving it a shot, then selling when it's not working, and a team not interested in winning in the least. How many years do you Sixers fans give the team before you expect some sort of commitment to winning? 5 years of tanking? 10? Where's it stop?

But yeah, let's compare them to the Knicks who've had every intention of trying to win. They simply aren't good enough and Melo is breaking down. What are they supposed to do? But if it gets you Sixers fans through the night...
And another thing
BigBlueShock : 2/13/2016 8:14 am : link
How pathetic is it that Sixers fans are actuall sticking out their chests and using it as proof of a plan coming together because they ALMOST beat a bad Knicks team at MSG in a regular season game? That's what the fan base has become? Wow.
The rest of the Celtics' picks aren't worth that much in a draft that,
Jim in Hoboken : 2/13/2016 8:20 am : link
at first glance, doesn't seem particularly strong.

You know, I know, and everybody else knows that the Lakers will get the first pick, so trading Anthony for "a shot" at Simmons is not sufficient for me. With our luck, we'll get the first pick and Denver will get to take Simmons home.

Haven't seen enough of Ingram, and don't know Murray or Dunn is that dynammic lead guard that the Knicks need.

Still, I'd explore the heck out of trading Melo. KP's best position is the 4 going forward, find him another star to play with.
