Leonard Floyd could be a game changer on the pass rush which is the only way to disrupt the pass heavy offenses in this league.
Not suggesting he will have a Von Miller type impact but guys coming off the edge are game changes and his combination of size, speed, and ability to get to the passer is intriguing
Was very surprised how good he was shooting the gaps from the LB spot. Seems to have good instincts. The only thing with Floyd is his production. I know its not smart to always look at production, but I don't believe he ever had more than 6 sacks in a season (somewhat surprising). He did however take over some games just himself by harrassing the QB all day. Some game films he looked a little lost when they didn't run right at him. You would think for a college speed rusher he would've had more sacks.
Agreed 100%. And he is much better suited for it due to superior athleticism. Kiwi had no idea how to play LB when he converted. Floyd lined up everywhere. He made tons of plays stacked from an ILB position. Freakish athlete.
Floyd is a faster much more explosive version of Kiwanuka...Lets take a look at the combine events Floyd participated in versus Kiwi

Floyd is taller with longer arms and demonstrates on film last year that he can actually play the LB position including cover...Kiwi on the other hand was a fish out of water and pure unathletic DE playing LB

Kiwi had the speed.
I still think Floyd looks like a weak Von Miller Â
Would be a great addition but a gamble as it's hard to determine if these kinds of players pan out. I would go Conklin if one of Jack, Hargreaves or Stanley do not fall.
Not to mention the fact that Mike Manock has the guy as the #2 Edge rusher in this draft...might be a more explosive version of Bosa Mayock's Top 5 - ( New Window )
he's more Osi than Kiwi in style. But laterally quicker than both. He bends off the edge and knifes in through gaps. He is strong for his weight. I see a guy that could put on 10 lbs and keep his quickness and be a WLB. And/Or a situational pass rusher on 3rd downs.

My untrained eyes always saw that as a problem with Kiwi. I think he was a fine athlete for DE, but never looked good on that sideline to sideline movement. He had the power and close quarters speed for line play, but wasn't an open-area athlete.
has terrific length, bend, size, and speed. He can rush, get the edge, and cover. But he doesn’t have the size to hold up against the run as a DE in a 4-3. I’m still OK taking him at #10, but just realize you aren’t getting a complete player. Know what you’re buying, so you’re not disappointed later that it isn’t quite what you thought it would be.
Maybe he can add some weight. But he played at a major D1 football school with excellent training and nutrition. If he could have added the weight, or done so without losing his speed, then he probably already would have bulked up. Goff has the same problem. Spindly and somewhat lanky. Needs to add weight, but again, can he?

Floyd was 244 at the combine... so his weight is up from where it was.

This and still ran a 4.6 40, a 10'6'' broad jump and looked fluid during the positional drills. I know you can't put too much stock on work out alone, but he looked great off the edge in Georgia and would be a good SAM for us.

I think he could play SAM or WILL since apparently he has good cover skills.
No problems there. Looks explosive coming off the edge and is really good in coverage. I think he would really help us covering over the middle and help get this defense off the field on 3rd downs.
He would be a huge upgrade to both- something we have struggled with the past few years. It could be the making of a pretty ferocious third down pass rush this year.

on Keith Marshall, the Georgia RB?
Andy, he's had a ton of injuries at UGA, but the guy has heart and runs hard like Gurley.
If the giants were going to make changes at RB, He'd be a guy I would look at in round 4 or 5. He has home run speed and you know the natural talent/ability is there if he was a 5 star recruit out of high school.
floyd, not at 10 with maybe 10 good true DLers sitting there Â

Jordan Raanan
Note: Reese only gets out to select few Pro Days. Was at LSU two years ago, Miami last year. Hmmm ... #Giants

Last nugget on this: Former O-line coach Pat Flaherty checked out Ereck Flowers' Pro Day last year too. New LB coach Bill McGovern at UGA
Floyd seems like the sexy pick lately. Curious what his 40 and 3 cone will be.

Leonard Floyd said he didn't take part in LB on-field drills at UGA Pro Day because of stomach issues from breakfast.
But with that said,he looks like AJ Green playing linebacker.

Line 'em up, no great mystery about how to use em.
That said, a great mike in 2 or 3 is not out of the question.
Whereas a Floyd sounds like a project as to how to use
He's strictly a LBer, and the fact that they converted him from DE to LB to me indicates that he cant play against an OT for 50 snaps a game.
Still, this pick would make me nervous.
another tweener DE/LB who scored well in the combine.
do we run a 3-4 or 4-3?
