not a surprise, a lot of BBIers were expecting news like this to come out.
Adam Schefter on Twitter: "Ravens' S Will Hill has been suspended 10 games for violating NFL's substance abuse policy, league sources @caplannfl and me."
I understand addiction, I get it. I'm guessing this is marijuana again. It is sad to see this young guy can't kick the addiction bug.
I know folks that smoke just about daily. I know folks who have lost union jobs (suspended really....) due to pot and can't get their job back cause they can't "quit" long enough.
I hope the kid gets it and bounces back. You have to remove all people, places and things that bring you to or near marijuana. Complete lifestyle and friend change. Not easy but a must.
Prayers sent. This isn't smart on his part, no, but addiction comes in many forms and all are hurtful: pornography, gambling, over-eating, couch potato, computer surfing, alcohol, Rx, sex, etc.
They say over 50% of people face an addiction in life that threatens their life and happiness in a major league way - at some point anyway. It isn't unusual and shouldn't be shamed but treated. The NFL doesn't play with marijuana.
I think we can put to rest the debate on whether or not the Giants made the right decision.
The Giants made the right decision, they gave him 3 chances
to get his act together. This news comes as no surprise to me.
Heck, in this league, you even KNOW when they are going to
test you too. I saw Cromartie talking about it last year
on BSPN. How easy can they make it for those who like weed
in the NFL, geez!
Well, I'm sure he has some kind of spokesman's job or a CEO position that is going to pay him multi-millions every year. Why else would he be so reckless driving the gravy train that he was on?
Next stop the Raiders or Dallas?
it's too bad the NFL is so backward. Medical Marijuana is Â
Telling us he's so great and violating drug policy is no big deal?
Whatcha saying now? Nothing.
I do think the rule is extremely outdated. After reading about how many pills these guys are taking to deal with pain from Kyle Turley, the NFL should really look into overturning the pot policy. Will Hill's a dumbass though.
about how backward the NFL is in regards to marijuana, but if someone said to me "we'll pay you $4.6 million, but you can't smoke marijuana " I'd do it in a heartbeat! WTF is wrong with people, you want a job, and one of the caveats was to refrain from smoking, well I'd do it. If you work for a company in Colorado or Washington and they have a policy against using marijuana then stop or get another fucking job! The guy was an ASSHOLE who got multiple chances, and he blew it! That's why the Giants organization were right in kicking him to the curb!
Adderall is legal and guys have gotten suspended for it.
My/our personal believe of whether marijuana should or shouldn't be legal - has to be put aside.
It's a rule and he broke multiple times - good-bye Will.
He should grow dread locks and convert to Rastafarian - then maybe he can claim a Religious excuse. Other than that he has no chance. He broke the rules again. Stupid rules or not.

Those who think that this is a just policy are simply reactionaries Â
who can't adjust to the fact that we've moved on from the sixties view of marijuana as a dangerous drug in the same class, although a little less potent, than cocaine and heroin.
Not being to give up marijuana is an "addiction" no more serious as not being able to give up cigarettes due to the "addiction" to nicotine, even after the smoker knows that the cigarettes are killing him.
As a recreational drug, marijuana is far less toxic than alcohol. It's far less dangerous to smoke and drive than to drink and drive.
The reactionaries may have today to celebrate, but ten to fifteen years down the road, when marijuana is legal in a majority of states, people will look back at those who supported a person being thrown out of football for doing the weed in the same way that we now look at the people who made the film "Reefer Madness."

You have managed to miss most of the points of this thread...
you would have to go back to the archives to find out who the Will Hill idiots were, but there were people telling us how big a mistake the Giants made in letting him go, and how we should look at him if the Ravens released him.
Reese' Pieces comes to mind...
Can't wait for Mike in Long Beach's hot take on this one...
How many people not only were trying to defend him for not only being a pothead but also trying to defend how he destroyed that woman's home that he rented in NJ? Leaving piles of dog shit all over the house. As I stated the day he was signed by the Giants, knuckleheads don't change they just change enablers.

That whistling sound you heard was the point sailing over your head...
I hate situations like these - everyone knows its bullshit and everyone's smoking but a few guys take the fall.
that said, will hill isn't exactly a hippie sitting on his couch smoking weed. his issues go a little bit deeper and i'm sure others know what I'm talking about

I.agree David. But the policy is in place NOW and it has to be followed or you get got.
Where do some of you work that you cant understand why Â
the NFL would not allow marijuana? Any type of job that requires a piss test will fire you for smoking pot. Its not an uncommon thing.
Curtis, if I'm not mistaken, you pretty much know when that piss test is coming. You have to be a colossal fuckup to fail. I get that the rule is a rule, if you fail, you face the consequences.
The problem with pot being the problem for a player is that Â
it takes SO MANY failures to get to where he is right now. PEDs, different story - you don't go into the substance abuse program and get multiple shots at cleaning up.
He must have failed at least 5 or 6 tests to be eligible for a 10-gamer, no?
debate on your stance on the marijuana debate. This is a sad incident where a young man simply can't avoid smoking weed when he knows his job and career are on the line. He now has 4 strikes against him and it is evident that he has a real problem and will never stop smoking.
I've been surprised by his difficulty because people I've spoken to Â
who have engaged in this indulgence have told me it's not in the least bit addicting physically the way cigarettes and alcohol and other drugs are. And that's my run-on sentence for today.
1) This policy has no comparison to the pills taken for pain, as one poster mentioned. This is part of a substance abuse policy. For the most part, pain medication is taken under the guidance and supervision of team physicians or as prescribed by personal physicians.
2) Even prescribed substances can be legal, but violate the substance abuse policy (i.e. adderall)
3) The legality, in general, is irrelevant. As with any employer, the NFL determined a set of rules by which its employees must abide. This is no different than any company that chooses to test its employees for drugs and include marijuana as a forbidden substance they test for. That is perfectly OK.
4) Why anyone still feels sorry for Hill is beyond me. First of all, he has well more than the requisite 2 or 3 chances we tend to give our athletes. All he has shown is that he hasn't learned a thing and can't control himself. I hope he gets help just so there is one less person addicted on the street. But, I don't care if he ever plays another down again. That is also derived from the fact that besides having no self-control, he has also proven himself to really be a shitty human being.
I had thought that cutting Will Hill was Reese's single worst mistake and given the state of the safeties as recently as now, would have said so. Believed that watching every Giants game last year watching Merriweather, Dahl, etc. That said, and I know it doesn't change anything, how the hell are they still testing for marijuana use in this day and age?
I lost a good young sales manager because he tested positive Â
The truth is that he lost a whole more. He had a bright future...he could have worked for me as long as he wanted. He had a 150k/year job, with a new demo. A young family with twin boys.
NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — For more than three months now, I’ve been trying to find troubled Giants football star Will Hill.
Now, it looks like he’ll successfully duck me because the Giants cut him a couple of days ago. They’d had enough. Hill had been suspended three times for violating the NFL’s drug policy.
I was trying to find him on behalf of Jameelah Wiliams of West Orange. That happens to be where Will Hill grew up.
Jameelah rented him a beautiful home there. To say he trashed it is an understatement.
“I’m really disgusted with him. This is such a beautiful house,“ Jameelah told me back in February. “My grandparents lived here for so long. We just have so many great memories. And we really just wanted to keep the house in our family. But he destroyed it.”
Jameelah says everything in the house was new before Hill moved in. But she says the former Giants defensive back made a dogs breakfast out of her family’s property. Indoor paintball games on the new hardwood floors. Maggot infestations, holes in the walls, dog feces from his four pit bulls and dirty bathtubs.
“The grand total including loss of income from the months we couldn’t rent it was about $15,000.”
Jameelah says she agreed with one of Will Hill’s financial advisers to settle for just $2,500. Better to get something than nothing, she thought. But they didn’t even follow through on that. And when I went to their offices, they were no help and asked us to leave.
Hill’s agents likewise offered no help.
When I went to Giants Stadium on the first day of drills last week, Hill apparently had already split. Then a few days later, the Giants got rid of Mr. Trouble.
So where does that leave Jameelah? Out all that money, although she thinks karma is catching up to Will Hill.
That karma has him now with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League, at least while he sits out his latest NFL suspension.
Me? I’m just disgusted with him and all his enablers. At least the Giants aren’t playing his game anymore.
And yet Will Hill is in fact an idiot for understanding and then ignoring the rules in the NFL. If you can't see that, please stop discussing the topic?
RE: RE: Where do some of you work that you cant understand why Â
the NFL would not allow marijuana? Any type of job that requires a piss test will fire you for smoking pot. Its not an uncommon thing.
How many jobs out there require routine piss tests?
A lot. Ever worked for the government in any capacity? Random drug tests all the time. Bottom line is that its against the rules and you know it when you take the job. If you cant handle it then find another job.
Should be legal or not. The fact he couldn't follow a simple rule demonstrates he is undisciplined, selfish, and irresponsible, all the traits you are looking for in a football player.
I understand addiction, I get it. I'm guessing this is marijuana again. It is sad to see this young guy can't kick the addiction bug.
They say over 50% of people face an addiction in life that threatens their life and happiness in a major league way - at some point anyway. It isn't unusual and shouldn't be shamed but treated. The NFL doesn't play with marijuana.
50%? Who is saying that? Seems awfully high. Do you have a source/link for that?
As opposed to another banned substance? Do we know it's not more? Either way, the guy is a complete idiot. He knows he fails a test he is getting a long ban and probably losing his job. And yet....
For those of you who keep making excuses for him saying that he has an addiction to weed.... the other half of BB says weed is not an addictive drug and should be legal.
There are people here who don't see that this has nothing to do with pot, whether some, many, or all people in the world smoke it, whether or not it should be legal or anythng at all other than who Will Hill is.
i personally do not think that weed is addictive. I DO think it just makes you fucking stupid (sorry to offend the BBI pot smokers).
You have so many companies that test for drugs. People are risking their average paying jobs because they want to get high. If these high paid athletes are willing to risk million dollar dream jobs for bong hits, then you know that the guy working an office job somewhere will do it.
but the writing was on the wall. People that don't understand why we cut him just don't know the team the root for, or even how teams in general operate.
but the writing was on the wall. People that don't understand why we cut him just don't know the team the root for, or even how teams in general operate.
I don't feel sorry for him at all. You feel sorry for someone whose career was taken away by an injury or an accident. This was a bad decision that he made MULTIPLE TIMES. He knew he could lose his NFL career over this and STILL CHOSE to roll the dice anyway.
Thousands of kids would be willing to give anything for the chance that Will Hill threw away. Fuck him.
I can think he's an idiot and also feel sorry for him. He didn't do anything to me personally and as far as I know he's not beating women or endangering society. He's just a moron and it's a shame he's wasted his chance to live a great life.
I understand addiction, I get it. I'm guessing this is marijuana again. It is sad to see this young guy can't kick the addiction bug.

I thought that pot wasn't addicting.

Former Giants star Will Hill trashes NJ rental home, refuses to pay up - ( New Window )
This story is one of the reasons I called him a shitty human being. There are others.
He could have smoked himself silly for sixty years after retiring from football, but couldn't stay clean for the short term.
Until you know what he was suspended for this to me is a jackass comment. I am rooting for the kids life. I am hoping that he was not smoking that he is able to control that. Here is hope that is was a drug that they deemed to be performance enhancing and not one that could screw up his recovery.
as its proponents claim - then he's made a conscious choice that we should respect.
He's effectively said: The experience of getting high is worth more than the millions he could be making through abstinence"
That's a value judgement. And who is to say he's wrong? We should respect his call, stop trying to impose our values on him and all move on.
The folks I feel sorry for are the Moronic cretins who subscribe to the theory that someday it will be legal so what the league is doing now is reactionary. That has nothing to do with it. Nothing and I'm not going to waste words telling them why. Explaining the self evident is more difficult than explaining the obtuse.

You might want to find a case a little more worthy of rooting for - this isn't just a good kid with a MJ problem, it's a guy who's been arrested for failing to make child support payments, a guy who ransacked his landlord's apartment, agreed to make restitution of only about a tenth of the damage and back rent he owed, and failed to pay even that.
This isn't just a guy with a drug problem - he's a raging asshole with a drug problem.

At least the Giants aren’t playing his game anymore.

the NFL would not allow marijuana? Any type of job that requires a piss test will fire you for smoking pot. Its not an uncommon thing.
How many jobs out there require routine piss tests?
A lot. Ever worked for the government in any capacity? Random drug tests all the time. Bottom line is that its against the rules and you know it when you take the job. If you cant handle it then find another job.
What are Will Hill's? What draws his admiration? What is that which brings him joy?
They say over 50% of people face an addiction in life that threatens their life and happiness in a major league way - at some point anyway. It isn't unusual and shouldn't be shamed but treated. The NFL doesn't play with marijuana.
50%? Who is saying that? Seems awfully high. Do you have a source/link for that?
He was give a chance to play in the NFL after he almost smoked it away.
While with the team who backed him, he lied to the owner of the team, who signs his check, and smoked it away.
He was given his 15th chance with the gift of the Ravens and he smoked that away.
Here is 1 of the rules of your employment, which well compensates you - do not smoke weed because it is illegal
He is a guy who refuses to obey simple rules for employment - enough
For those of you who keep making excuses for him saying that he has an addiction to weed.... the other half of BB says weed is not an addictive drug and should be legal.
You have so many companies that test for drugs. People are risking their average paying jobs because they want to get high. If these high paid athletes are willing to risk million dollar dream jobs for bong hits, then you know that the guy working an office job somewhere will do it.
Fuck him.
I know folks that smoke just about daily. I know folks who have lost union jobs (suspended really....) due to pot and can't get their job back cause they can't "quit" long enough.
I thought that pot wasn't addicting.

Number of failed tests. The next one, I think, is a full year. Then indefinite.

So that should take about, oh say....10 months to occur.
A talented player that is throwing it all away. See you at the Taco Bell drive thru window, my man...
Until you know what he was suspended for this to me is a jackass comment. I am rooting for the kids life. I am hoping that he was not smoking that he is able to control that. Here is hope that is was a drug that they deemed to be performance enhancing and not one that could screw up his recovery.
I never realized that the NFL had legislative powers.
Oh, and fire Reese!
Just can't admit the team made the right decision at the time.

He could have smoked himself silly for sixty years after retiring from football, but couldn't stay clean for the short term.

Probably from rotting food that he never threw away
The next time those two stains provide insight on anything will be the first.
