Don't expect anything with free agent CB Jerraud Powers and the #Giants today. Visit appears to have ended w/o a deal
It appears JR fiddles while The NYG's burn. How many have come in for a visit and left with no deal. Hey JR, we need a slot corner. Hello, hello is any one there?

You realize we could easily get a slot CB in the draft, right? IMO, this draft is very deep in CB talent and lots of Day 2 and Day 3 options are there.
John Mara is no billionaire like Tisch, he is a millionaire Â
and his net worth is around half $400 million. In the first few days of FA the Giants committed around half of his net worth to four guys. I wonder how it sits with him that some of his players could exceed his net worth in a few years. Mara and Tisch have to split but then Mr. Mara has to split again among his family.
I'm not saying this has an impact with budgets but I could understand Mara's POV with contracts in general.
but it’s not a disaster. As somebody said the Giants probably feel they can get a similar player in the draft. They were looking at slot CBs yesterday IIRC.

You realize the Giants are worth about $2 billion right? And you think an NFL player with an average career of 3 years is going to exceed $400 million in net worth? You are really saying that SOME of the Giant players will be in that category and be richer than Mr. Mara in a few years??? Is this your April Fool's joke?
Or simply that Powers was intent to do a tour of teams from the getgo because I specifically was told that he met with Spags and the DB coach and that it was a great meeting.

Giants have six picks and a multitude of holes. Usually, only the first three can be contributors in the first year. Signing Powers would have helped.

I'm not talking about the Giants. I am talking about John Mara's personal net worth.
They needed a good quantity of free agent signings this off-season. So far they have only added four new guys and have retained just three (DeOssie, JPP, Brinkley) of their own, with all of them on defense except DeOssie who is strictly a special teamer. That's not many considering how many holes they really have to fill.
And there won't be many players worth anything available between now and camp opening.
I am pretty sure Mason knows that's not apples to apples comparison and meant to indicate they invested a lot already.
More likely they have Jenkins and DRC at numbers that if they paid someone else too close the chemistry of a backfield that lives with each other for months on end would be disrupted
BBI at its best. Two weeks ago nobody on this site ever heard of the guy. Now because we didn't sign him now (in April) it's evidence that we are cheap and a dysfunctional organization.
SMH. I can't wait for the draft and everyone's trade down proposals and insightful mock drafts based on pure speculation.

You should probably read the thread. Or did you start shaking your head before you started reading it? 90%+ of the posts are either jokes or measured, reasonable reactions.
Jerry Reese - Look man -- we want you here but I have a budget to work with -- I'm willing to part with a million or so
Jerraud Powers - Come on Man -- cut loose with some of that Giants money Me Reese -- you knows I wants some of it.
JR - Uh... No. Like I said we're on a great path here -- you can be part of something special when you call this place home.
Jerraud Powers -- Like OK Mr Reese I hear you -- but no dough, no show
Just an eensy bit racist don't you think?
Yes Joey. Gidie was being just as racist as the untold number of black comedians who made millions of dollars impersonating and making fun of how whites talk.
Look, im not saying they're wrong for doing it, in fact I laugh at it when it happens. But to say it's OK for a comedian to do it on stage, but gidie can't try and be funny on a message board is a little horseshit no?
I watched a few Cardinals games last year and thought Powers played admirably replacing the Cardinals starting CB when he went down. At the time I thought he would have made a good nickel back for the Giants and a good backup to Prince who was always hurt.
I don't think the Giants are cheap. It's hard to call any organization that shells out $200 million in salary cheap. Right now it's hard to make any definitive judgment because we don't know the numbers discussed but if they come out or if Powers signs elsewhere I don't think it's unfair to question whether Reese is being penny wise and pound foolish depending on the terms.
Or simply that Powers was intent to do a tour of teams from the getgo because I specifically was told that he met with Spags and the DB coach and that it was a great meeting.
That was my thought.
Hopefully the NYGs are not OUT of the running; only that his agent insists on doing due diligence to see if there is something better out there.
Wouldn't it be nice if, before he left, Jerry knowing Jerraud hit it off with the coaches, said "shop around, but before you sign give us a chance to match the best offer". That's what any good car salesman would say :)
they gave him a very favorable offer if they don't draft a CB 1 or 2 in the hopes he won't sign for less before the draft. $3-4 Million is absurd for a 4th corner, but not for a third corner. This is just a Friday night after a martini guess, not even remotely asshat.
to have a chance this season, they have to continue adding players. Six draft choices will not cover it. Adding this guy would make them better. I doubt Powers was looking for a knock-out contract.
Nor am I a big Joey in VA fan. But if you can’t figure out why it's offensive to post a sketch of a black athlete saying, “you knows I wants some of it”…then I don’t know what to say.
If a sports writer wrote something like that, even in jest, he would be fired without hesitation.
Back to Powers. It always surprises me when these things fall through Â
because you know that the player's agent has a good idea before the player comes in of what's going to be offered in terms of dollars and years.
I would think it's more a case of the team having a pretty good idea of what the player wants in terms of money and years. It could be that both sides went in knowing ballpark figures, but the agent refused to budge because at least until the draft, he has all the leverage. And he knows the Giants have the money to spend, so why not make them sweat a little and see if they cave?
Yeah, we treated him to a Filet-O-Fish instead of a fish fillet

Too bad, as we sure need a slot CB. This team is so thin that the draft by itself can't fill all of our needs.
