Will Beatty

Still a Sam Huff fan : 4/12/2016 9:49 am
If I missed something and he was signed elsewhere, please just go onto another thread. Thanks.

If not, and he is still available, a couple of thoughts: I'm sure there are some unpleasant feelings on both sides but unless that bridge has been burned to the ground, perhaps they can still kiss and make up. Maybe the new OL coach can do something. If he can pass the physical why not? We thought very highly of him in the past and paid him a bazillion dollars.

All those waiting for a third or fourth rounder to step in at tackle this year, get real. We can use that # 10 pick elsewhere unless this GLARING HOLE is not solved by draft day.

Waiting for a summer cut from another team is very, very risky. So why not Beatty? Suck up whatever bad feelings there are. Gotta be pretty cheap by now.

And yes, the defense was abysmal last year.

They couldn't make a stop for love or money, which is why I was happy to see them spend big to address that in free agency...and I hope they double down on that in the draft...after they get their RT-of-the-future in round one.
Having said that...

I've made the case that CB should be prioritized over LB. At least we have a full complement of LBs on the roster now. They may not be much, but at least they're here. We're dangerously thin at CB, and we may not have DRC after this year. It's no wonder the Giants reached out to Jerraud Powers, and I expect them to draft a CB with a premium pick regardless of what happens with him.

We may not have JPP after this year, and since Odi is hardly a model of durability, I think it's imperative that the Giants get another young DE in the pipeline (although not necessarily with a premium pick). Ditto for Hankins and DT.
Good Draft for CBs and DTs
Samiam : 4/12/2016 1:04 pm : link
I've read that teams will be able to get starting caliber CB s and DTs much later in this years draft than usual. If that's true, you look to draft players in the positions where there aren't that many quality players early and get the CBs and DTs later.
I for one

Don't want another year of jt Thomas trying to cover rb and te. Jack and Floyd are BPA over Conklin. There are alot of good 2nd or 3rd rd oline. As I said sign and trade for Davis. Then concentrate on d along with wr in the draft.
They can sign powers also
Mike B from JC : 4/12/2016 1:18 pm : link
His offer still stands and I haven't seen him on any other visits. June 1st cuts are also on the horizon.to many unproven players at fs also. Need to draft one.

sign and trade? Davis is signed. Not sure what you mean by sign and trade.
3 Thoughts about Beatty
RetroJint : 4/12/2016 1:22 pm : link
1. His holding call against the Redskins cost Coughlin what would have been another divisional title in 12. If Coughlin's position is accurately depicted above, it shows you the caliber of man he was. He never held it against his LOT.

2. Who cares when fans consider Beatty soft? What does matter is that his outgoing OC called him that. There is no greater insult to a professional athlete than to have one of his coaches question his toughness. I didn't. You didn't. Gilbride did.

3. I tire of the "There was no choice at that point but to sign him" excuse for Reese's professional misconduct. Even if this is true, Reese bears responsibility for getting himself boxed in like that in the first place. And likewise Baas and Beason. And the departure of Joseph. Same dif. Have an immediate plans in place. A 1-year out plan. A 3-year plan. You see Reese's reluctance into projecting forward yet again by not dealing with Pugh and Hankins.

I think you're taking Gilbride's comments on Beatty slightly out of context.

here was the exact quote.

Quote:
“We made the gamble that William Beatty would be the guy and he had played very well last year,” Gilbride said. “This year he did not have as good a year, he was much more inconsistent than he had been the year before. He was slowed by some problems and then of course he finished the year with a significant knee injury, so that remains to be seen how he recovers from that. I think there’s no question he has the physical skills to play the left tackle position. He has the skillset to match up speed-wise with anybody. I just think he’s gotta demonstrate again the commitment and the toughness that you have to have on a play-in and play-out basis. There’s no question in my mind he has the physical talent, it’s just a matter of making his consistency be at the level it needs to be.”
I meant get him in a trade
Mike B from JC : 4/12/2016 1:39 pm : link
Then sign him.thought 9ers only held his rights. Didn't know he was signed
I think Beatty was JAG
xman : 4/12/2016 1:48 pm : link
except for his one salary push year.
No interest in bringing Beatty back at any price
Torrag : 4/12/2016 1:52 pm : link
He proved he's a decent athlete playing football...not a football player. Oft injured and now labeled soft by the front office. We've moved on and there's no need to look in the rear view mirror with this guy.

Good point, I assume, but don't know, once he applies for reinstatement and is active again, his contract with SF (through the 2019 season) is also re-activated.
Which is good pj

You'd have him for 4 seasons.already accomplished RT who has already started alot of games. Then concentrate on wr and defense.

The front office labeled him as being soft? See my post above.
I think your right
Mike B from JC : 4/12/2016 3:14 pm : link
About his salary being reactivated. Only would cost around a 5th? Or maybe a conditional 4th next year. Not a bad price to pay. Solari coached him so he knows him well.
IF he was able to play RT
msh : 4/13/2016 1:51 pm : link
then i would bring him back provided the price was right and dump newhouse i still want an OT top of the draft would rather have beatty as a backup than newhouse def dont want that starting
