Laquon Treadwell note from Daniel Jeremiah

bigblue12 : 4/14/2016 12:37 pm
Listening to the Move the Sticks podcast, he is saying that there is not one person who he talks to that thinks Treadwell is going in the top 20 and they speculate that he could be destined for the top of round 2. It is lying season, but interesting nonetheless.

Now Treadwell isn't a good pick at 40 either? You're rich. A guy who might be a reach at 10 can't be a nice value pick at 40?

What is with your vendetta against this guy? Did he diddle your sister?

No he wouldn't. As I have said, and been consistent, I have him as no better than the 4th best WR in this draft. I think he has a VERY limited ceiling. I like Coleman, Doctson, and Michael Thomas over him... Thomas is my target at 40 overall. However, if he's gone I would rather the Giants draft Braxton Miller on upside. People are sleeping on him and they shouldn't. Just because he has had limited time at receiver. But in that limited time, he demonstrated the ability to be a game changer. Braxton Miller is going to follow in the footsteps of other college QBs turned WR like Hines Ward, Julian Edelman, Randall Cobb, and Anquan Boldin. He is the real deal. And he showed that at the week of the Senior Bowl, burning up all DB comers. My evaluation is that Treadwell is a 3rd round talent, but he does have a decent floor. He's a safe pick, not really significant upside. That's been my evaluation. At #40 overall, I think I can do a lot better than that, and have felt that way ever since I did my evaluation on him... prior to his Pro Day.

That's terrible analysis. Both parts. Here's a list of players who fell on draft day:

- Joe Montana (Third Round);

- Roger Staubach (Tenth Round) - Four year military commitment;

- Bart Starr (Seventeenth Round) -
Athleticism;

- Dan Marino (First Round)
Reports of cocaine use;

Thurman Thomas (Second Round) -
Knee injury;

- Shannon Sharpe (Seventh Round) -
Was thought of as a tweener due to his size;

- Zach Thomas (Fifth Round) -
Size

- Randy Moss (First Round) -
Character Issues;

- Willis McGahee - (First Round) -
Major knee injury;

- Dez Bryant (First Round) -
Character Issues;

- Aaron Rogers (First Round) -
Mechanics, college system

- Rob Gronkowski (Second Round) - Sustained seriois back injury in final season;

- Justin Houston (Second Round) -
Character issues;

- Luke Kuechly (First Round) -
Dropped due to position;

- Tyrann Mathieu -(Third Round)
- Character issues;

- Jesse Armstead (Seventh Round) -
Sustained a major knee injury in final season;

Shall I keep going?

So yes, while there are circumstances that may cause a player to plummet in the draft, that shouldn't preclude us from being interested - regarless or round. Thats simply dumb.

I said the fact that he would be available at 40 doesn't automatically make him the pick. At least that's what I meant. There will still be very good players at #40... players I prefer. And if 31 teams pass up on him once, and then 8 teams pass up on him a second time... it's only because they agree with me. But what I'm NOT saying is that will happen. It's very possible he'll be drafted prior to 40. But I wouldn't be clamoring for him if he was there, either. Because if you think that, then you should ask yourself why did teams 32-39 not clamor for him. Sure, there are plenty of good players that slid. There are a ton more that washed out.

you'd see a talent. Collins will most definitely have a place in the NFL even if he struggles in coverage at times. And he didn't struggle in coverage all the time last season.

Watch Collins play in space. He can cover ground and lay the wood. That's a valuable player.

Collins was covering and playing at a position that our team fucked up in terms of depth. Collins will be fine in his position.
collins and treadwell

1st off Collins had a fair rookie season and showed flashes at times in coverage and more so in the box.

He's going to be a good player for years to come and I have no doubt about this.

Now anyone who says Treadwell can't play on the outside and destined for the slot is a complete moron.

I do agree though that I'd pick both Coleman and Doctson over Treadwell every day of the week.

Some people on here absolutely amaze me because of the lack of football I.Q.

Atleast it used to amaze me but I've come to accept this about BBI for the most part.

Good grief people,get a life!!

No wonder I don't post nearly as often.

Many of us are thankful for that. So, keep 'em not coming.
Treadwell reminds me of a rich mans Rueben Randle.
j_rud : 4/15/2016 1:03 am : link
Similar skill set and AA, similar lack of top end speed, but Randle's weaknesses are some of Treadwell's best qualities. Willing and capable blocker, a try-hard guy who leaves it all on the field, possesses all the intangibles regarding work ethic and leadership that Randle lacked. I'd be more than pleased to see the Giants land him at 40.
I would rather have a burner

Reminds me of Crabtree.

You mean like Beckham? Not saying it would be a bad thing to have another WR who could stretch the D but those guys don't grow on trees. They could do just as well, possibly better, with a player who compliments Beckhams skill set rather than mimics it. And that is what Treadwell would be in this offense.

It's a mystery to me how a poor showing in the 40 instantly caused many, many posters to more or less disregard the positives he brings to the table. And there are many. His intangibles are off the charts. He's a respected team leader and has an aggressive, competitive streak. Handles adversity well: returned from a nasty broken ankle in 2014 to post career numbers. Runs a full route tree, has a large catching radius, and has above average hands. And he's a beast as a blocker. That can't be understated. I can't recall another WR in recent memory who planted as many defenders on their asses as Treadwell did this past season. His ability as a blocker is rare.

And people are going to forget all that because he didn't display exceptional straight line speed? In a pair of gym shorts no less? Just seems silly to me. I don't think any wideout in this class is a top 15 pick, but I think Treadwell could be a steal should he last until the 2nd round.
Treadwell #40 is a pipedream...
Torrag : 4/15/2016 8:06 am : link
...and I don't want him at #10...he's likely going in the 15-23 range.

Tyler Boyd #40 makes a ton of sense...especially if we've got our OT #10 and talents like Joseph and Burns are off the board. You also can't discount DT's in any round as it's the deepest position group in this draft class.

It's true that a big physical possession WR like Treadwell would give us a different look. But I think it's debatable as to what type of WR would be the ideal fit next to Odell.

IMO, I actually lean towards the "burner" type. I think having another guy who can threaten Defenses over the top would open up a ton of space for Odell.

I don't want Treadwell at #10 but his blocking is actually what gives me hope with him. IMO there are 2 ways to succeed in the NFL at WR if you have major speed concerns (mid 4.6s at your pro day qualifies as such), you can either be a masterful route runner or you can be a straight up physical bully. Treadwell isn't a masterful route runner but his blocking does give you a glimpse at his "bully potential".
Collins & Treadwell
GMen23 : 4/15/2016 10:18 am : link
If Collins catches that game winning Interception Brady threw right at him last year, we would be talking potential All Pro Strong Safety this year.
But Treadwell making it out of the 1st round this year, is the most ridiculous thing I read on this board this year. ( not counting WCO Guard John Jerry's all pro status )

As far as opinions, give me Shepherd or Boyd in the 2nd, over Braxton or Thomas.
Think it's more likely that he's draft starting at 15.
Watson : 4/15/2016 10:22 am : link
Idk if there is any WR that has the grades to be taken at 10. However, seems all potential picks at 10 have ??? So who knows.
