Saban SPECIFICALLY structures his defenses to hide weaknesses and highlight strengths, which is why his players removed from that system, tend to bust in the NFL.

Pruit had Floyd dropping into coverage more often then anything else. That was his strength, not a pass rusher, not a physical mis-match, etc...

He's a coverage linebacker that's tall, that's all he is.

He has pretty good bend for a 6'6" guy. He says himself he needs to learn a couple more moves but of the video on youtube, right now he can dip to the outside, counter inside and stunt to the inside. I'll take that from a rookie LB.

Just a ridiculous take on how And why Floyd was used at Georgia and his skills.

He rushed the passer a lot and he was extremely effective. That isn't debateable. You want to knock the guy run d, lack of strength, concern about finding a position...that's a legit concern. But saying he wasn't a pass rush and just a coverage LB is not.

gets closer and closer, I can't help but feel more every day that Reese is going to draft Floyd if available. I'm sure the team wants that great pass rush back and Floyd can certainly help there.

The fact that he can provide coverage is just a bonus that I don't think Reese can pass up.

Think about Vernon-Hankins-Snacks-JPP and Floyd coming at you on 3rd down.

If the Giants draft him I'll be happy with the pick. It will be called a reach and there is a lot of risk with the pick. Every first round pick can't be the safe one and the Giants have been aggressive in free agency and expect we will see that in the draft.

A linebacker who sucks at the PoA is simply not acceptable as the first LBer this team selects on the 1st since decades.

We're clearly looking for another Carl Banks which is fine because he was great at his peak. But Floyd hasn't shown anywhere near the toughness/strength to be that guy.


YES, the pass rush/coverage skills are intriguing. But he's not Exactly great at both areas. Great outside speed rush potential with that dip and 1st step, but his absolute lack of power limits his options as a pass rusher significantly. And everyone here loves his coverage skills yet he made NOTHING happen in coverage in college. He forced opponents into making harder catches... Yet they still made catches.

0 INTs and 4 Passes Defended in 3 years of college... OMG What an awesome coverage backer!!!!

This pick is Jerry Reese's baby, and if he loves Floyd enough to draft him I'll root for the kid until he's not on this team anymore. I'll hope he proves me wrong. But no thanks... Again.

The downside if a yay is less than a nay. If you say yay, and the chap is a bust, well it happens. If you say nay and they end up in th HOF, that seems worse.

In fact it should be a flat out no. He's not a 4-3 player, not on the line or at LB. This isn't Von Miller or Anthony Barr. He's a 3-4 rush LB with height and straight line speed. He won't hold up against the run at his weight against NFL lineman and he doesn't have the quickness to cover. His ability to bend around the edge is overrated to me. He had 4.5 sacks last year with 1 in his last 5 games. Nearly half (5 out of 10.5) of his TFL's came against La.-Monroe, Southern U and Georgia Southern. He reminds me way too much of Barkevious Mingo who went 6th in the draft in '13 and has a total of 7 sacks in the 3 seasons.

...We're talking about Floyd at #10 and he has no consistency on tape that proves it. There are analysts that give Kevin Dodd, who will also be 24 at the start of the season a 2nd rd grade. They say his 5 TFL performance against Alabama was overrated because he did it against their weak link at RT. Leonard Floyd went up against the same guy and had zero. In fact he had less total tackles (2 solo, 2 assisted) than Dodd's TFLs and those were chase tackles if I recall. I'll argue with anyone here to look at both Floyd and Dodd against Alabama and still come back to me and say Floyd is the better player. But that's the guy we take at 10 and Dodd possibly reaches 40? A guy who nearly matched Floyd's career production in one season, weighs 40 pounds more and almost as quick at the snap? I am blown away at this love affair with a guy that didn't produce. You show me one positive play by Floyd and I can point to ten negative ones. That's not a player you take at 10 overall.

If you want a wiry, tall edge rusher go with Alex McCallister from Florida. Nearly the same dimensions in height and weight but he was more productive in the same conference. McCallister had more sacks and one less TFL and did so in 4 less games than Floyd. We can get him on Day 3. Admittedly part of that was character concerns but he was never rated as high as Floyd. He never had the same TV analyst love.

Position fit: 3-4 outside linebacker. Strong-side linebacker, possibly inside linebacker

Leonard Floyd played more of an off-the-ball linebacker role this season for Georgia, but when he was unleashed
to get after the QB, he made the most of it with the third-best PRP at 17.7

but...

Majority of his pass rushing production came against the lowest graded right tackles of SEC. Won a lot purely on athleticism and not a refined pass rushing skillset

But he also has a huge bust potential.

I would rather have a sure fire solid than a maybe yes/maybe no player.

a lot of folk have admitted huge holes in his game. At number 10, I don't want gaping holes in a game that you put up with coz he's so damn good at one aspect. I want an all around player.

but mostly because I recognize too many people from the 'nay' side as people who put ketchup on their hot dogs.

Oh, and because if the Giants really want him in RD1, they're usually more right than wrong in that situation.
