the Giants were considering him. Then I found out he put on about 15 lbs since the end of the season and still maintained his athletic ability - and I felt better about it.
That I'm a yay? For all the reasons you mentioned above gidie. If I have to go through another year of watching rb and te torch us, I'm going to start breaking things. Floyd, would solve those issues. Time to help the d through the draft.
I for one am not going to say 'nay' to taking a kick ass LBer in round 1. Years of ignoring the position and he may be there at 10, I pull the trigger. He may not be a HOF LBer but I'd take him.
I say, "Yea" because I see Floyd's floor as a 3rd down pass rush specialist. That's a big need for our Giants. Remember how the D had games the last few years where they could not get off the field? That ends when you draft this 24 year old kid.
I've been talking him up a lot on BBI over the past week. It took me a while to warm up to the idea because I don't normally like these tweener types, however:
Watch the tape of him rushing the passer (only 50% of his college snaps - you will forget about his low sack numbers) - He is an absolute menace. There was a SEC game can't remember, where he didn't register a sack and basically took over the game. The QB was running scared half the game and he forced a pick 6. He can also cover and will fly sideline to sideline to make plays. I will not endorse him taking on blocks, but weak-side alignment will hopefully mask some of that.
I just can't help to think on 3rd down when we are up in games (like last year and fell apart)...Floyd Vernon JPP OWA GO GET EM'
I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if he is a bust.
he's not plan A by any means, but they could do worse. His pass rush ability is obvious and even if he ultimately ends up just being a 3rd down edge rusher there's tremendous value in that. Out of Ranaan's 10 most likely picks I personally prefer almost all of them (except picking a RB) but if the Giants think this guy is going to be a player I'm not going to "throw the remote" because he shares similarities with previous guys who busted like B. Mingo and D. Jordan.
I like taking risks, and I know the risk is lower for Floyd than say a player coming off an ACL or other bad injury. But I prefer taking risks at the back end of the draft and then hope and pray for a big reward.
The 10 spot in the draft should come away with a damned sure thing (healthy history, size for role, NFL ready, etc) for the next few years and maybe more. If we take Floyd with that high spot and he doesn't pan out in the NFL because of his thin build and no designated position would definitely spell the end of Reese. Not sure he is willing to take any risk right now.
Agreed on this. But given the nature of NFL contracts and the frequency of ultra-young players needing a year or 2 to grow, i've grown to care less about this.
too old and can't tackle, though I do understand that they think they can bring him from all over, he cannot be the inhouse replacement for JPP, if JPP bolts in `17. And any first round passrusher should at least be that.
I say
Can't wait to watch him play
Is this post... dumb?
But I endorse him over any RT
He turns 24 in September, that shouldn't be a concern. If he has 7-8 year career (league average I'm guessing tops) then he'll be 31.

I've warmed to the little pick a little bit of late, but I'll still say "Nay" at 10.
I do think he'll be the pick, but I'd prefer to go a little safer.

He's an impressive human and guys like this can make it happen.
Seems like a situational player. I'd rather have a full time player at #10.
He seems like a guy you take a chance on later in the draft.

My biggest fear. Not sure who I would want if that happens

I worry about the lack of physicality and tackling ability but love the coverage ability and first step.
