Was this the most nerve-wracking play of the game for you? I live in Pats country and obviously everyone here talks about the Tyree play and the Asante Samuel missed INT but I feel like the Jacobs 2 yd gain on 4th and 1 is the forgotten play on that drive. (Not by us).
For some reason I always think of that moment as the most intense part of that game.
That was, not to be a homer, the greatest Super Bowl that was ever played ... for so many reasons.
Jacobs run for that 1st down was a HUGE play.

Yes.
That's the only game my wife ever watched with me. From the time the game started I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I couldn't eat, breath to heavy or even drink anything.
And yes I also agree that was the greatest SB I've ever watched.
but hey, sour grapes i guess.
And it was worth it.
100% right on this...that 3rd down pass was soooo close...truth is, as good as Brady is, he just ran out of arm...Moss had a step. Of course it was about 70 yards in the air, not many QBs ever made can make that throw. And great job on 3rd and 4th down by Webster and Wilson for avoiding interference

I actually just stood in the bathroom for 10 minutes because I was too nervous to watch. As high anxiety as I've ever felt I think.
Brady goes down! Jay Alford! So many great Joe Buck calls in that game. Best game ever played.

sacked on 2nd down with 25 seconds left. That was like a second orgasm. then i'm thinking we're actually going to win. Still i was worried

You know, good point about Buck, he was good in that game, especially at the end. Short, to the point descriptions of plays, then he shut up and let you just watch the aftermath and listen to the crowd.
Burress...alone...touchdown New York!!!!!
Jay Alford with his shining moment of his brief, unfortunate career cut down too soon by injury.
It's actually kind of weird the guys in that game that played key roles and how they were hurt and retired so early. Steve Smith, Kevin Boss (although his lasted a few more years, concussions caught up with him). And I think Gibril Wilson also with the concussions. Domenik Hixon to some degree. You can argue Plax had his career shortened with the self-inflicted gunshot and the ensuing incarcenation. And of course, Lawrence Tynes with the MRSA infection. Kind of a hodgepodge of weird circumstances.
And Joe Buck's call on the helmet catch, from Eli's escape from the sack to the actual catch, was just completely abysmal. It's like Buck mailed that telecast in like it was any other game.
Aikman and Buck were pretty bad that night. They barely had a reaction for the Tyree catch. Yes, I know it was a nutty play and all. But still, you have to muster up something more than what they were able to for that play, especially given how late in the game it was and it being a one score game.
Also, that was the best playoff run in the world, nevermind North American sports.

Full game. Your welcome.
he had to cross Eli's face to pick up the safety, good recognition from him, and if he didnt Eli would have been sacked.
After the Burress TD, I was pretty sure the Pats would be able to get into FG range. Thought it was EXTREMELY cocky of them to throw bombs only. With their underneath game, knowing full well the Giants HAD to double Moss, how fucking stupid was it not to try to grab 20-yard chunks instead low-probability bombs? On a couple of those plays, people were OPEN in the 15-25 yard range. Brady was only concerned with the walk-off bomb.
Hubris. Pure hubris.
We as diehards know about the incredible importance of the SS play. But highlight film is for the vast majority who are casual fans..The SS play wasn't sexy enough albeit orgasmic for us

His promising NFL career went down in flames. His big play, on 3rd and 11 catching the short pass and dashing up the sideline to just beyond the first down marker when he was slammed out of bounds, will be forever unseen. The highlights film always goes right from the Tyree catch to the Burress TD catch.

At exactly 1:56 of this video, you can see it. The most important play of Toomer's career, IMO. :D
Toomer's block. - ( New Window )
That wasn't Toomer. It was David Tyree. :)

Samuel has no chance of making that catch and anyone who has really looked at it knows that. And what's worse is the twisted logic that his "failure" somehow diminishes the Giants' victory instead of explaining the Pats' loss.
There was actually a long-time BBI poster who used the Samuel play to say that Eli was that close to losing the Super Bowl to an obvious drop in his shitty analysis that said Mark Sanchez had just as productive of postseason stats.
It became folklore because that poster insisted that Samuel dropped a gimme, despite others posting video and gif's showing Samuel barely getting a finger on the ball at the height of his leap.
