"I'm feeling great. Workouts have been going amazing. Each day, it gets better and better," Cruz said on Friday afternoon while making an appearance during a free children's health screening seminar here in his hometown at the Boys and Girls Club. "I'm excited to continue to train, continue that pattern, and see where it takes me. ... I'm 100 percent. I feel good. No injuries, no ailments, nothing hurts, no pain." |
Positive news nonetheless, though.
Wow 2011 was so long ago
Let's hope so the Kid deserves some good fortune .
One is the physical side. Victor may be talking about that when he says he's "100%". Full flexibility, full mobility, and hopefully the 2nd gear/explosion out of cuts he relied on.
The other prong is mental. You can be physically recovered, but there's always that mental part to be fought through. "Can I depend on doing what I did before?"; the fear of re-injuring himself, etc. That's the part he's likely talking about, when he says "getting better day to day".
Part of that is simply not thinking about it, and just reacting on the field, building that muscle memory he had. It should be interesting to see his "physical presence" at camp. High level athletes have that tight "spring in their step", and in the way they move around that reflects their conditioning and inner confidence in their physical condition.
If he can regain that - game on.
Not really true. How many games did he play well when he wasn't 100%? I'm guessing some but know way to really know.
Cruz doesn't need to be 100% to be effective. He won't be the #1 and won't draw doubles like he used to. He needs to catch passes in open space and just be reliable unlike Randle who was one mental letdown after another.
This health percentage meter is kinda pointless, players play banged up all the time.
For fear of drawing bitter memories a James Jones type vet might offer a good alternative to drafting the second rookie.
We need a couple more guys with a legit chance to make our roster in case Cruz flames out.
Cruz is still s young man and I hope for the best for him, but he's no longer football-young. Ask Hakeem Nicks.
Positive news nonetheless, though.
So all he has to do is actually try and exert some effort. Shouldn't be too difficult.
What if Victor Cruz, 29, bounced back to 2011 form?
90-1250-8 type numbers or even better? Man would this offense GO.
Then it becomes, a 16 game watch.....
The sad thing is JAG is an improvement over what we've got at WR besides Beckham at the moment.

I'll one up you.
If we get a decent draft, health, Beckham improves, Cruz is his 2011 self, and a decent 3rd WR emerges, this team wins the Superbowl.
A lot of ifs, though.
I am very disappointed the Giants didnt go after a WR in FA. As of right now a guy that hasn't played in almost 2 years is our clear #2 and that is a bad job by Reese. Cruz says he is 100% but then says "By training camp, I should be pretty much ready to go.”. Thats not 100%. I just dont expect a lot out of Cruz this year but it seems like the Giants are rolling the dice on him. Even a rookie is a gamble to be able to contribute. Very few rookie WRs have a big impact their 1st year.
Good luck Victor!
I'd be worried about him even playing after just getting healthy.
Let's hope so the Kid deserves some good fortune .
The Mother?

What, he can't think outside the box?

Haha, it's not splitting hairs. I had the same exact reaction.

The guy relies on quickness. 90% does not make it.
90% and the heart of a Lion ...Putski
I wish the best for him, but I just get the feeling we are going to hear that Cruz was held out from the team "because of precautionary reasons. No reason to go at it now with so much time left before the season..."
And then Reese & Co. will go over their draft board again and move all the WRs up a tier...
I disagree. He's smart, runs great routes and gets open.
What does no excuses mean? Isn't a pulled hamstring, etc a good excuse to miss time?
